LeBatard just said that Adam Scheftner has said that he "sees" Merriman ending up in Miami...

We'll see what he has left. Even without the steroids he produced for a season if I'm not mistaken at a high pace.

    I'm not sold on Merriman.

However, I've seen lots of "stars" who were not playing like stars on one team get traded and turn back time. If we do get him I hope he plays rejuvinated and looks like the Merriman of old.

I can't honestly say it's the roids though because he was busted in Oct. 06. He turned in a huge year and then another big year the year after. It's actually the knee that's the biggest problem.

What if the Jets were in MIA situation and got Merriman and Moss?

What would be the tone of that move if that happened?

My guess a lot of making fun of the jets.

That adds a lot of validity to the speculation . Schefter is right an awful lot and doesn't throw stuff against the wall just to see if it sticks.

Either wouldn't really hurt since you can just cut them if they don't perform, so there is more upside, it's not like it's a 3 year contract.

There will be less interest in Merriman obviously so he is more likely than Moss who will prob go to the Seahawks.

So your saying the minute he was busted the roids no longer had effect on him? The year after he was busted he had 12.5 sacks, the year after that he played 15 games and registered 4 sacks.

I'm not saying his knee wasn't a major issue, but please don't be naive about his steriod use.

Why not go after these guys? The risk is low and if they turn out to be how they use to be, high high reward!

Ignorant to the fact that one hasn't done much since he hurt his leg or the other has been let go by two teams due to his cancer like behavior, which includes one where he might have tanked it on purpose against a team that is in the AFC East?

Every demented, broken down(physically or mentally) FA that hits the market will be coming to Miami this year.
Let me rephrase, every other teams leftovers or cuts will be mentioned in the same breathe as the Dolphins for the remainder of the season.

I'd take a look at him even if it as a long term project.... meaning giving him some more time to get healthy.

No, not the minute he was busted, but odds are if he was taking them, he quit taking them mid-early 2006. There's no way in hell it had anything to do with his 2007 season. Pretty much everything on the steroid he was suspected of taking say that its active life in the body is 5-7 days.

I think it's really hard to say that the 4-sack season is really all that damning. There are plenty of elite speed rushers in the NFL who have dropped mid-single digit sack seasons and been productive after the fact. Jason Taylor, Dwight Freeney, John Abraham, Joey Porter, etc.

ACL issues and the real problem is he just has not stayed healthy.

Put it this way, Merriman, or Q Moses?

J-Pep only plays hard on MNF, the Bears v Packers game, he was unblockable, he looked like JT back in the day, I'm surprised he has vanished.

I think the question is "How will the loss of Moses affect special teams play?" If it's minimal make the move. If they fall apart at the seams again, maybe think twice.

Run it by Rizzi beforehand, I suspect Merriman will pass through waivers if we don't claim him, but I'd like to take a look at him before he hit the open market, though that is not possible.

Merriman has also been on the 'outs' with the management in SD for the last 2-3 years as well .... to me the key is his leg .... IF he is truly healthy enough to play and contribute right now or in say 2 weeks -- i think he is absolutely worth the risk of bringing him in, since he can do things at OLB that we just don't have here ...

He is not the same cancer or headcase that Moss is .... Moss is just a sad story ... sooooo much talent, so little desire .... but what he is not - as some suggest, is not even close to being the best WR in football .... that time past when the Johnson's came on the scene and when he actually had to put some effort into playing the game, instead of just plain being taller and faster than the CBs of that period ..... since his pitch and catch days of MIN, he has been a shell .... now that the diabribe is over -- i would still claim him, merely for a RZ target - and that he'd require attention and would help Brandon and Bess and if you got any production out of him it would be a bonus.

So all that muscle and stamina he gained from steriods was gone in 5-7 days? No.

And also. Not sure how much you've watch him, but Merriman is not a speed rusher.

Also, its hard to compare Shawne, someone's that had 2 good NFL seasons, to those players that have have good to great careers.

Now, with all this said, I would actually pick him up over Moss, and would like to pick him up period. I just like to argue, and hate others arguing with false facts :)

    Or have taken them.

Getting to be a certain size is almost impossible without "help." Now certain guys just have freak genetics, but I would bet at some point most got chemical assistance to break a size barrier that anyone who lifts or trains will tell you is crazy hard to break without "help."

Correct, he could have used it to gain fast, and as long as he kept up a strict regimen he would maintain a good amount of the "chemical" gain. Not all, but most.

People who "deflate" from steroid use happens mainly because they didn't workout much before, and they don't workout much after.
