We run a 3-4 and need a lot of help with our LBs. Why not bring in the LB coach on arguably the best 3-4 D in the league.
I like it.

My guess? You saw this on rotoworld when clicking the link on that other thread

My thoughts exactly. He's part of one of the best defenses in the league and coaches it's strongest area. Seems like the perfect fit seeing how much we struggle at the LB position. Hope we can land him.
-
Nice. Go get em' Bill.
-
their LB's play with a purpose, play intense, part of that is talent, part of it is coaching....can't go wrong....the only thing, if he was in fact the heir apparent to the present DC...then why grant permission?? thoughts?

Lebeau has been comtemplating retiring for the past couple years, which basically means they have been stringing Butler along.
You let him walk and take a better position out of respect for the person and the job he did with your team. It certainly isn't good for relationships to smack down a coach's chance of promotion.Clipse, gunn34, gafinfan and 1 other person like this. -
Parcells likes aggressive defense, so if Butler's anything like LeBeau this would make a lot of sense.

Keith Butler enters his seventh year on the Steelers’ coaching staff after joining the staff prior to the 2003 season. He remained on staff following Mike Tomlin’s hiring in January, 2007.
Butler and Tomlin previously worked together at Memphis in 1996, where Butler was the linebackers/defensive ends/special teams coach and Tomlin served as the Tigers defensive backs coach.
Butler was named the Steelers’ linebackers coach Jan. 28, 2003, after serving the previous four seasons in a similar capacity with the Cleveland Browns (1999-02).
Butler has been instrumental in the development of the Steelers’ highly regarded linebacking corps. The unit includes two 2009 Pro Bowl players, James Farrior and James Harrison. Under Butler’s tutelage, Farrior, a second-team All-Pro in 2008, has led the Steelers’ defense in tackles for the past three seasons. Butler has also helped groom Harrison into one of the league’s elite performers. Harrison’s 2008 season included winning AP Defensive Player of the Year, making his second straight Pro Bowl start, earning a second consecutive team MVP award and recording a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown in Super Bowl XLIII, the longest play in Super Bowl history.

thats what i thought to? -

Nope, that is not correct
The Titans on Tuesday told the Texans they would not grant them permission to speak to offensive line coach Mike Munchak about their offensive coordinator's position. -

I like this potential move. I woud prefer him to be defensive coordinator. But he could be good as LB coach too. It's a win-win situation.

I know that is the rule for HC and coordinator positions, not positive if that is how it works all the way down the line.LandShark13 and dolfan7171 like this. -

Doesn't seem likely, but nowhere have I read what position they are interested in him for... -

DO want.

The Buccaneers under Gruden/Allen were notorious for holding guys to their contracts.
At any rate, this has me excited. That's the kind of defense you want. An aggressive, attacking, explosive defense. Lord knows he's overseen quite a unit.
He looks a lot like Bill Cowher with that mustache. Hopefully he coaches like him too. -
me too, I have longed for an agreesive defense for some time. I hope this comes to pass:up: -

Stealing the Steelers 3-4 DC in waiting would be huge.
They need to make this happen......break out that check book and write one that he can't refuse. -
-
Whisenhunt was interested in him after the superbowl, but I find nothing that says he interviewed and turned it down. -
