Ross made a mistake with the Harbaugh situation. BUT, I like his plan.

Is Ross aware that Indy gets the big prize........
-
Well, I hope that translates to Russ Ball or Omar Khan before anything else.
-
We all know that Ross wants a big name HC, it's going to be Cowher.

Ross doesn’t want the next hot offensive coordinator to run the Dolphins as his signature hire. He doesn’t want to give someone else’s assistant general manager the keys to the organization to pick players and hire a new coach.
“We can’t afford to take that gamble,” the source said. “The guy we hire to run this team won’t be learning on the job.”

Superstar head coach, most likely. Hope it's not some offensive linemen guru we never heard of...
Want Luck, gotta trade down the whole 2012 draft and 2013 1st Round pick if the Rams or Jaguars get it. -
-
After all, he did try and woo Jim Harbaugh, who I wouldn't exactly consider as big a name as Cowher or Gruden; especially going back to January 2011 in terms of coaching prominence. -
-
So its a given that Tony S. is a goner? I dont like the owner announcing it during the season, and I didnt like it before the season while hes still officially our head coach.
-
-
Wow, even the owner can't wait to get rid of these guys...M. Ross Shamylan, pffft..LOL

Good to see this in print....though let's be honest, we know that Ross knows what it takes to win in the NFL. He knew how big the Dolphins used to be when they had Don Shula and Marino and even the stars before Marino. He's talked about wanting the next one before. We have few stars now...Marshall maybe, but he's noted more for his wild personality. And he obviously sees and has commented on the other elite teams and what they have.
The question is will he actually land a good coaching staff, and will they be with him on drafting a QB in the first round? I'm sure they will...
Glad he stopped the Orton trade from continuing. At least he sees the major issue we've had. It's not up to him to evaluate the rookie QBs though, just have to hope the right staff comes in and makes a star out of whichever QB we draft. -

I'll take Jeff Fisher please. Cowher and Gruden...not so much.
Don Shula for GM!!! -
Said it before and I'll say it again...I don't want a coach that's not going to win a Super Bowl, and no coach has won a Super bowl with two different teams.
Cowher-His wife recently died. I don't think his heart would be in it.
Gruden-Inherited what Dungy built in Tampa
Schottenheimer or Fisher, those would be my choices -

Coincidence is not the same thing as causality. Or do you consider it valid for me to bring up that no head coach named "Marty" or "Jeff" has ever won a Super Bowl as proof of something? -

The best part of this article was that it appears Ross is finally willing to end the Ireland tenure as the Dolphins GM. With Ross wanting to hire a superstar HC or a football czar, who will be responsible for hiring the next coach and GM. Ross seems to be sending notice to Ireland that he no longer has his support as GM of the Dolphins. Sparano and Ireland are both in over their heads as a head coach and GM in the NFL. It is good to see that the owner has finally realized this and he is already looking to the future. Fortunately for Dolphin fans, the future of the Dolphins does not appear to include Ireland.

I have no idea if Cowher still has the same desire to coach which he had when he was with the Steelers. Yet if he does, I would certainly want him far more than I would want Fisher as the Dolphins next head coach. He was the Steelers HC for for 15 years. During this time his teams had winning records during the season, eleven times. He was 12-9 as a coach in the playoff and his Steelers did win a Super Bowl.
I have no problem with Gruden being the next HC of the Dolphins but I would prefer Cowher if he really wants to get back into coaching. As for Fisher, I hope Ross takes a close look at his record with the Titans and decides to pass on him as the Dolphins next HC. -
Don't deflect...dispute the fact that no head coach has ever won a Super Bowl with two different teams then explain to me why you'd want that again???
If you don't want to win a Super Bowl, then there's no reason for anyone to argue against Schottenheimer since, in the vast majority of opinion here, Marty can't win the big one. Having Schottenheimer as our head coach, or having Cowher/Gruden would be no different...right? :pity:
The OBVIOUS choice would be Jeff Fisher. A proven winner with whom the Super Bowl Championship was a mere three feet out of his reach.
I like Cowher. I like Gruden, but I don't want either one of them. They have their ring. They have nothing to prove. Having them as a head coach would be the football equivalent of Ross bring in Fergie, J-Lo, Gloria Estafan, etc...a big name to fill seats and fill cash registers, only to be disapointed at the end of the season.
Bring me Marty or bring me Fisher...and I would say Marty more than any of them. His days are numbered due to his age and he doesn't have that many opportunities left. If not, bring me Fisher.
Alas, my team's owner is Stephen "Celebrities R Us" Ross. :pity: -
If Ross was a smart man, he would have FIRED Sparano last season and demonstrated to Jm Harbaugh there was indeed a vacancy in Miami and the position was his to fill.
Now you are absolutely correct about what Harbaugh has done in San Francisco. Taken a medicore team, with a less than talented QB in Alex Smith and they're currently 5-1, having just knocked off the Cinderella Detroit Lions.
Just imagine what he could have done down here with Henne who is a MUCH better QB than Smith.
I wonder what the tune of all the Suck for Luck guys would have been had Harbaugh had us at 5-1 right now :lol:FinSane likes this. -

Is there anyone else in the Harbaugh family we can hire as head coach?
Damn it would have been nice to get someone with some personality in here coaching this team. I hope Ross never gets through kicking himself in the *** for botching that. -
I want Gruden or Carmichael Jr. Gruden I think has the hunger and wants to prove he can develop a team and mold it and win. I also think he has gotten perspective being out, kinda like taking a step back and listening and learning. He is a student of the game. Cowher I just fear he isnt as hungry, only wants short term, would also bail if his rep would take a hit. He is a genius now, would he bail if it falls short? I just dont know.
Fisher should be considered as well, sorry but he is a good coach that still wants to win, has not wone a SB and that would solidify his resume.
I think tho the approac we took was the right approach, just wrong people. Find the right person and bring him in. find out what their philosophies are and hire a guy that you trust will bring that coach and that franchise qb. I think Gruden is that guy, but I think Carmichael Jr could be as well, and just because he isnt a star name, doesnt mean he cant be. -
Right now, I think we can focus on just a few names: Jon Gruden, Brian Billick, Bill Cowher, and Jeff Fisher. -
However... what is of value is that Ross is making plans and tentative decisions right now about the course of the team. That those plans contain just exactly what every other team wants is no surprise - a super star coach and a franchise quarterback. Now, is that a shocking revelation for Armando to reveal? Who would have imagined that Ross could have come to the conclusion that such a combination is just what his team needs?
I hope that Armando finds some other stunningly new possible thought that the team owner might have to titillate us with before we play the JESTS tonight!FinSane and dolfan32323 like this. -
Sounds like we're taking a QB in the first round no matter what. Not a bad thing, especially with the new rookie cap. I agree in that it sounds like Ross is getting some good advice from somewhere. Not pulling the trigger on Orton was a great decision. It also sounds like he intentionally didn't spend in Free Agency last offseason. That could mean he's gonna unload next offseason, with a new coach (and possibly GM). Makes total sense.
