It certainly would be embarrassing if that happened. If we're to give Ross the benefit of the doubt just maybe there is a master plan in place for Harbaugh to end up here without it looking like it was a done deal long ago

One big problem is that Ross is a sattelite owner. He doesn't even live in Miami. He doesn't have the same pulse of the team that other owners have which leads to the point that Grier should have been the one to have been fired first. It is truly unbelievable that this clown still has a job. Now, we're going to have this goof decide on yet another HC? Crazy. Also, another major problem is if they're trying to force Tua on the next HC. You think a coach is going to want to come to a franchise where he will have to play Josh Allen twice a year and being forced to try to do so with Lil' Tua?????? Are you kidding me? We're are screwed. F Grier and F Ross. This is a complete s--t show.

    Summary:

Plan A is that Ross and Grier think they're almost there, they've got a DC, a good defence, Tua, and just need to get a good OC, and they can contend. Why else would they be slow in the hiring process - they don't want a true leader, they want someone who will slot into the overall organisation, buy in and keep moving forward.

or, Plan B, is that Ross has spoken with Harbaugh and will officially speak with him soon. Although that's been explicitly denied twice.

So Miami fired Flores and kept the GM?

Seems like the owner is usually always drunk.

Fins will almost certainly downgrade at HC at this point.

I suspect we will struggle in UFA as well. We'll get one or two top players at likely stupid high prices. I knew when Flores was fired and Grier was retained this was going to happen.

Maybe we'll even get another Minkah Fitzpatrick situation. Speaking of which, looking back all I can say is, smart decision, if you care about competing and not only getting paid. Those are the type of player's we will get, and I'm sure it will be painfully obvious when they hit the field.

I don't understand the negativity (yet...). If we land McDaniel, we're landing the architect/designer/innovator of the best offensive system in the NFL. The system that has spawned success across the NFL. The one everyone wants. Not some guy copy/pasting McDaniel's ideas in their playbooks, but the actual author. His players seem to love him too. Hopefully we'll get to keep some semblance of continuity if it's true the defensive staff will stay on board. It feels like the best of all worlds, IMO. The only thing that could **** McDaniel up if he's our guy, is San Fran going to SB, delaying his ability to hire the best offensive staff, as they will likely be gone.

If we get McDaniel, firing Flores was the best thing that could of happened.

You're giving this guy credit over the shanahan's you know the ones that have proven it over the last 50 years in the nfl.

I think for me, the balance is between looking at the man hired and the organisation above him. I don't necessarily dislike McDaniel or even Kellen Moore. I can see why they're HC candidates and I'd be willing to give them a chance. If there's any negativity on my part it stems from the thought that they'll be set up to fail by Ross and Grier and their inability to provide the right environment and support for whoever gets hired. Why did Flores fail? Was it totally down to him? I just can't see it. Rarely is a 'relationship issue' one sided. Were Flores just the first instance I'd give it a pass, but we've been on a carousel of poor management, and a young HC (if anyone), likely won't have the strength to change things, but rather, be changed. Owner, GM and HC shouldn't be at odds. They might disagree, but they need to respect one another. I don't think that's been the case in Miami. Maybe the new HC gets the freedom and authority he needs to change and implement things, and maybe it works or doesn't. However, at this point it seems more realistic that Ross backs Grier who has a vision for what this team is, and he is looking for a HC who can agree with his vision, and implement it with him, rather than supporting the vision of the HC and providing what that man wants and needs. Maybe that's how it's supposed to work, or maybe HC and GM are supposed to simply believe in the same things and share the same vision. So far, it seems, we've either had coaches who are weak in one area making them incompetent, or we've had coaches with different ideas to the GM.

Can they get it right this time? I have my doubts.

And it was the Shanahan's who hired him to be their play designer from the beginning. They have have taken him everywhere to continue to design and evolve their offense. Unless the articles and reporting available are BS, McDaniel is the most influential play designer in the NFL over the last 15 years.

Whether or not that translates to being a good HC? I don't know. At the end of the day, given the success this offensive system has had, his reputation, there's no reason not to gamble on the upside.

Not sure I totally agree. There is a clear pattern of behavior from Belichick coaches. Does Belichick actively recruit a "type?" Or is he just so abusive, the victims become victimizers down the road? Both? Flores specifically has had questionable people skills from the beginning, starting with Minkah Fitzpatrick. At least, that was his first public relationship issue. Given the stories coming out and a larger resume of questionable behavior, I'm willing to stick this to Flores.

From everything I've heard, Grier is impossible not to get along with. He's not a big ego guy. His job is to facilitate the HC's wants and needs. And he's done just that, by all accounts. It seems the relationship between the two went south when it became clear Flores wanted Watson, despite the looming sexual misconduct legal and civil cases. Once that was off the table, Flores went radio silent on everyone. I understand your macro point and don't really disagree. I do think Flores is/was the biggest problem. Guy went from being fired to hired in a second, to no one wanting him. Word seems to be out on him.

This is what I don't understand. What, outside of QB/Watson, didn't Grier give to Flores? Flores wanted to trade Tunsil. Flores basically forced Minkah out. Flores got all the players he wanted from FA, only to get rid of them a year later, wasting our cap room and ****ing up the rebuild. Flores wanted Noah Igbinoghene, despite having 2 CB with massive deals, wasting a first round pick. Flores was literally given everything he wanted, except Watson. There is no other reporting that suggests differently. Grier gets what the HC wants. He's the middleman negotiating. And he is very good at that, I'll add.

The issue is Watson. If Flo doesn't believe in Tua, and Miami has the resources to get a legit franchise QB, then I understand why he's upset. It's his career that is on the line. His desperation to make up for all of his failures on offense, by giving up the farm for a QB likely facing an unprecedented suspension (IMO), along with a pattern of ******* behavior, is not on Grier. That's why CG still here and Flores isn't.

Yeah, we **** everything up. I'm dreading the future Vance Joseph announcement.

We will see really fast if McDaniels is some offensive guru or if he was just a seat warmer like joe Philbin was in Green Bay or Adam Gase in Denver.

i have doubts that McDaniels has much say of whats called with Shanahan on board

I have no idea if this is truthful or not. I ultimately would have traded Tunsil/Stills for that haul as well, but Flores was speaking highly of Stills just a few days earlier and praising him for his viewpoints. Plus, he had to know that Tunsil was almost irreplaceable at the time they traded him. I can't see any coach making this move going into his first NFL season...tanking or not.

The other part that confuses me is Flores at each press conference, insisting that he was trying to win every game. We never should have won 5 with that roster where we signed 20+ off of other teams cuts the day before the season started. It was truly a fool's errand, but somehow it all clicked towards the end of the year. That was clearly meant to be a zero win team.

Now, it's possible that the front office planned this with Flores....we'll suck year 1, but we'll grab the best QB in the draft and rebuild with draft picks quickly. Maybe he went for that; it doesn't feel likely, but maybe. But then Tua got hurt in Alabama...and Burrow popped up out of nowhere. Herbert looked good too but there were questions about his maturity, whether or not he'd be another Johnny Football. The kid proved everyone wrong and suddenly, a one horse race became a lot more complicated.

Not only did we pick the wrong QB, but we weren't even in position to pick the best QB either. After trading away your entire team, who in their right mind drafts a QB who's coming off season-ending injury as the face of your franchise? Nothing against Tua, but that's not what you trade away your entire roster for. I believe the part that Flores wanted Burrow and Herbert over Tua.

In that 2nd year, it appeared that Flores backed Fitzpatrick and praised him often. Once we started Tua, his entire demeanor changed about that conversation. Then look at how shocked Fitz was...whatever happened, it wasn't what Flores and the OC was telling him up until that day. Something changed behind the scenes and Flores sat Tua every chance he got the next two seasons. I think it's pretty obvious that Flores was forced to play Tua, even though it was detrimental to the team.

When it gets to Watson in year three- of course Flores wanted him. He wanted Fitz over Tua, and Brissett over Tua. Why wouldn't he want Watson over Tua as well? Again, nothing against Tua, but we went from a gutted roster to a rookie roster and neither inspire great QB play. And Flores, saying over and over again that "Tua is our QB". Did anyone here feel like he actually meant it? To me, it sounded more like, "I'm forced to start Tua, so I have nothing to say about that."

We keep hearing about Flores cussing Tua out in that Tennessee game and assume that's where the beginning of the end started, but I honestly believe the rift formed before Flores ever coached his first NFL game. Cutting Wake, Denny and so many leaders within that locker room plus trading Tunsil and Stills, I doubt that's the job Flores signed up for. He had very little chance to succeed, yet he surprised us all three seasons. And I bet the front office was mad as hell that we missed out on Burrow due to a team that never should have won in 2019...even though they wanted Tua all along.

This could almost be a Shakespearian play on tragic loss and irony...it has all the components. And I ultimately believe that Flores was the victim here, he was too inexperienced to know the thrashing he was going to take from the front office. After stepping back and looking at all of this objectively, I really think Flores was doomed on day one by Grier's promise of "perennial playoff contender" and the youth movement that followed.

Why hasn’t Flo gotten a new head coach gig? I mean it seems he’s being left to float in the wind this cycle. Does he go back to NE as a coordinator again?

The biggest mistake this team made and I blame Flores was benching Rosen. We might have been 0-16 with him at QB.Fitz was the reason we won 5 games and cost us Burrow.
That and not drafting Herbert will haunt this team for years to come.

If Flores doesn't get an HC job better hope he doesn't take the defensive coordinator's gig with the Jest just to give the middle finger salute to Ross, Grier and, especially Little Tua.

You know the "Minkah Fitzpatrick situation" was literally a Flores problem, right?

The NFL is trending toward transient billionaires, many of whom are collecting sports teams like Thanos collects infinity stones. And I don't think being a local is that big a benefit either. How many Super Bowls has Mark Davis collected the Raiders? How are the McCaskey's doing in Chicago? You think Dallas fans are pumped to still see Jerry in charge?

Oh it absolutely does! This organization is such a joke across the league that nobody wants to work here. There’s a loser mentality that starts at the top. Hell, Chris Grier has been part of the losing and mediocrity here for over 20 years and he’s been rewarded again while the guy he hired just got fired. The owner is clueless the GM is clueless and a loser that can’t handle a little criticism for picking an average qb. Nothing is getting better here because theres no credibility

yup. Because Chris Grier can’t handle someone challenging his mediocre track record. And because nobody with a valid resume would ever want to take this job to be saddled with Grier, Ross and likely Tua as well.

Another step in the building block to nowhere from Ross.
