Does anyone know how mics are attached to mic stands? I'm thinking about getting a stand so I don't have to use my guitar stand to hold my mic for recording, but I want to know if I have to get anything else with it. Here's the stand:

You'll need a mic clip, screws right onto the stand.

The link above isn't a suggestion, just an example... I'd probably buy something better.2k5 likes this. -
yeah mic stand has a thing on top of it that the mic sits on.
it's a clip kinda like griddles said.
much helpful. -
I posted about it on UG and it looks like I'll need a shock mount. I don't think a mic clip is big enough for my mic. (Rode NT1-A)

oh man. if you're going to record invest in a good mic. it makes the recording that much better.
get a shure sm-57 and shure sm-58 they're pricey but worth it.2k5 likes this. -
To clarify... You should use the 57 more for instrumentals, the 58 for vocals. Where I go to school, we use the 58 and 63 for a lot of our productions (interviews and such)... but if you're using the mic for guitar... might be best to get the 57 if you're deciding between the two.2k5 likes this. -
