The Broncos' decision to sign veteran Michael Pittman may not cost Travis Henry now. But it could cost him down the road a bit.
News of Pittman's signing broke the same day Denver coach Mike Shanahan said Henry would need more time to heal his sore hamstring. Last Monday, the team thought Henry would be ready Monday. Now, it'll be next week at the earliest before Henry hits the practice field.
The team hasn't been thrilled with Henry this offseason and he'll have to have a good training camp to make the team. With Pittman now on board, it could make Henry's job more difficult.
The team signed Pittman, over the likes of former Seattle star Shaun Alexander, because of his toughness.
The Broncos envision Pittman as a third-down player. The Broncos believe Pittman can run, receive and block well on the third down. With the team high on youngsters Selvin Young and Ryan Torain, there may not, ultimately, be room for Pittman and Henry once the season starts.
