Ok I get that everyone is feeling pretty good about the offseason but now thigpen says he is going to break Hesters return TD record ?...its starting to sound a lot like the Jests circa 2010 and Im not really digging it.
I've not seen Thigpen's comments, but both Hartline and Pouncey said they thought we were going to be good this year but realised they needed to prove it on the field...which is fair enough. It's the offseason, everyone's looking for a story, and getting one of the Dolphins to do a Vince Young is an easy way for them to get a story.
No it isn't. That's ridiculous. Thigpen maybe cocky, I don't know, but if you actually watch Pouncey and Hartline say the things they said and pay attention, you'll notice there was nothing brash, bold or ridiculous about any of their comments. I knew this was going to get blown out of proportion. Hell Pouncey, said they need to prove it on the field, for crying out loud.
How many people really do see what they said though, rather than just seeing the media takeaway? It may be fine to us, but to anyone else it may seem we are getting cocky. Next thing you know the media will be talking about that and how Miami has an overinflated sense of self. Media does not care for accuracy, why give them ammo?
Do you realize what you're saying? You're saying if you actually watch what they said, you'll see they said nothing wrong, but they should stop giving the media ammo. They didn't give the media ammo, the media fabricated ammo and they would have done that regardless of what Pouncey or Hartline said. This is precisely why Saban and Parcells and Bellicheat hate the effing media and have lock downs on them.
All I am saying is that right now at this point it might be prudent to zip it until the games start getting played...the Dolphins are coming off a 7-9 season and have had a "good" off season IMO its probably time to stop making predictions period because its going to start looking bad and might even start giving the other teams in the division some emotional ammo...not saying its already happened just that it needs to stop before it does. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...igpen-aiming-for-nfl-touchdown-return-record/
I get that but Im a Dolphin fan...to the rest of the Non Dolphins fans it just sounds like the Dolphins are doing a lot of talking..seems like everyday its some new quote about this coming season and Im not seeing many other teams (if any) flapping gums.
The exact quote: “My goal is to get at least seven returns for touchdowns on kick returns and punt returns combined,” Thigpen told the team’s website. “I want to do something that’s never been done before and anything’s possible.” How outrageous.
Thigpen didn't say anything too extreme either. All he said was his goal was to score at least 7 return touchdowns. His main job is to return kicks, he should have goals like that. There has been nothing wrong with what any of these guys have said. They understand they have to prove it on the field. This is absolutely nothing like the early Rex Ryan Jets teams.
The problem I see with these types of predictions is when the team itself starts to believe winning is a foregone conclusion and then doesn't put the work in to achieve it. But Hartline or Pouncey specifically said they had a lot of work to do and that the proof would come on the playing field. There's nothing talking if you do the right things to back it up.
So, you're solution is for the players and coaches to never ever speak to the media? That happened before and our team suffered way more than they will for this completely fabricated incident. Look, they didn't say anything wrong. Who cares what other people think? The truth is the truth here and the truth is they were more humble than cocky.
People who have a problem with what Hartline and Pouncey said obviously never watched the Video, just saw what they said. Did not come off cocky at all. Thigpen maybe but Hartline and Tigger, no
It's not 2010 Jets'esque, but I like the Patriots approach better. They hardly ever say anything. Hartline's comment's weren't outrageous. Sensible. But still, better to just let the play on the field do the talking. It's not his fault. Who is Brian Hartline? Nobody would get that much play out of such a comment except for the fact there is Tom Brady and the Jets to talk about.
TBH I do...I remember the satisfaction I got when it blew up in the jests faces it seemed like a disease spreading in their locker room one boast after another...I am NOT saying that has happened yet but I AM saying its probably time to check it before it starts getting out of hand. *edit* Like Maybe coach says something simple at the next practice..."no more predictions please"..you can give plenty in an interview without predictions.
Its not just pouncy/Hartline...our 51 carry RB talking about 1500 yd seasons now thigpen setting NFL records..sorry but its starting to feel a little snowballish (yes I invented that word).
See I didn't read what he actually said, or watched the video, just took the "Beat Hesters return record" and took it out of context and thought he was cocky. Turns out he wasn't either. People really need to watch their answers. People love to say they are being cocky just to give something to talk about
There's nothing to check, no one has predicted anything. No one has been cocky. No one has talked smack. I don't know how many times that needs to be said before you understand it. You are over reacting. You are basically justifying the media's lies right now.
would we rather when asked about his goals for the season, thigpen say, "meh, I'll probably be about average this season?"
Except, that is not what he said. He said its his "GOAL" to break the record. What else do you want him to say? I hope I can score one td this year? He should feel like he has the ability. This isn't even close to what the Jets were saying....they were making claims of winning Super Bowls. How is this even similar?
The off season is the time everyone in the league thinks they are playing on the team who will win the Super Bowl. That is expected, because you certainly wouldn't want the players on your team saying, "we suck and we will be lucky to win a game this year". I like the positive talk by the players, but I still don't see this team being better than an 8-8 team in 2013.
What would you prefer his goal be? 55 carries and 250 yards? High expectations are nothing to be leery of. I think many of you fans are suffering from battered fan syndrome. This is a young team, let them set their goals. I think its a good thing.
