http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...n-davis-miami-dolphins-082010,0,3402195.story Good write up by Mike B on a darkhorse in the Returner battle, Davis was solely a returner at Auburn, and he was quite good at it, 2 kickoffs in total in the first game does not help his cause. I like his size, 6'0 or so and 210, but I've seen his speed vary from 4.4 to mid 4.5's.
I really like the quote that returning kicks is his first love. Special teams takes a certain mentality and one where you have to love being out there. He appears to possess that which is great. I'm not sure if he has the inside track or not (since everyone else mentioned in the article will be on the team regardless), but I am pulling for him.
The one return that Nolan Carroll had in the game i thought was pretty promising, he showed some burst in my opinion, i think we'll get a better judge after saturday night though.
That and to be real honest Sammie, Ronnie and Ricky have a good chance of being nicked up this season, I'd like to have another option aside from Pat Cobbs available. To me, I think Sparano likes his game as they rarely put up with a dinged bottom of the roster player for very long, but he also is the classic "you decide your own fate" player, if he excels at Returns, then he can stick, if not, he won't. Besides, he is another guy Boom said had "no chance" to make the final roster. Boom chocking on his orange marmalade muffin when the final roster comes out is a funny though to me..
Thing is, this is the last yr a player like Davis or even Ikaika Francis can make the Team, the Rebuild has reached the point where longshots, UDFA's, late round picks, just do not have room to land on the roster as most units have been settled via young veterans.
Could be that simple, or they could practice squad him. Interestingly enough, Jalen Parmalee, poached off of our practice squad in 09, has made Willis McGahee expendable in Baltimore. If the Steelers cut Stefan Logan though..all bets are off.
Parmalee was a draft pick of ours wasn't he? I am surprised that teams like the Niners or even Seattle hasn't taken a flier on McGahee yet since he is available. Oh uhm, go Tristan Davis!
Sixth round, 2008. We cut him near the end of the season and the Ravens picked him up just before the playoff game.
