his units play is taking care of that all by itself, unorganized, unconditioned, and unemotional...maybe time to get ur ass out of the box and down on the field.

I've soured on Nolan. His play calling, designs and creativity has be bad IMO. And him admitting to a mistake doesn't take those facts away.

He's actually done quite a bit. He's getting blamed for a bad effort, but his actual decisions for the most part have been fine.

1. Karlos Dansby has been very disappointing so far this season, in his new role as the leader of the linebacker unit in place of Crowder

2. I don't blame Nolan about Colt McCoy. What I think is the literal translation of what he was saying is, there were throws that Colt McCoy made in that game...that I just haven't seen the guy make. I've watched him play a fair amount and those two touchdowns, along with a couple of other throws in the game particularly on the last drive...you can go back through the film and not find many of those. On the other hand there's a lot of screens and other little dump-offs all through that film that if you don't respect, end up hitting you up for hard yardage the easy way because the Browns are generally good at executing those.

Any word on dansby having some kind of minor injury, being gassed, etc at the end of the game? Maybe there was some reason for it...

Nonetheless...as much of a Nolan fan as I am, hes gotta get this unit looking at least half passable again, or he may as well pack his bags at this rate...

EDIT: LOL - thsi unit looks awfully passable if you catch the pun. Perhaps I should say, "looking at least half acceptable"

i think he was just being honest. i'm sure the guy has four or five things he can do on any given play on any given situation and he chose the wrong ones and he admitted as much. expect to see more dansby from now on, especially in crucial situations. as for mccoy, i still think he sucks but those were some nice passes he threw

Agreed about Dansby. One thing I was hoping for with the signing of Burnett, was Dansby would be moved all around the field like he was with the Cardinals. Line up outside and get after the passer, etc. We've have just been so bland in our formations and packages so far this year.

If I remember correctly, you were sort of beating a drum that Nolans defenses usually regress after the first season. Or was someone else during the off season.

I predicted that the defense could regress but I wasn't necessarily all about predicting it's Nolan's fault or that his defenses always regress.

I'll tell you one thing even though Mike Nolan is a good DC, maybe even very good at times he doesn't get his team to play for him the way Mike Zimmer does. That guy with a mediocre level of talent really has produced great results as DC of the Bengals. There are guys that flat out were busts in the NFL before they played for him and his schemes aren't anything incredible. He just gets his players, in a terrible situation to play hard, tackle, and make plays. I think despite his age of 56, he'd be a great first time head coach.

Cinncy is third in the league on defense. Third in the league after being fifteen in a down year, fourth the year before that. Their lineup?

IIRC, Dansby had some kind of a strain (groin, I think) a few weeks ago.

Nolan was giving what the fans always seem to demand: accountability.

Nothing wrong with his quotes IMO.

Looking at the wrong place P13, what is "shocking" is the fact they are playing zone to protect the young Db's, but neither Wilson or Carrol are zone players coming from college.

If they move up to man press, the defense is then disorganized.

Basically we need WA and VD back ASAP or the Defense will remain out of whack.

Well yes and no on admitting your mistakes. I agree, the man is not a dummy but every job Nolan has been fired from so far he has openly admitted he made mistakes. That is honorable on his part. Problem is, the man is still making the same mistakes that he has been doing for years, he severely under rates people. He did it when he was HC in San Francisco and admitted doing so. Not playing certain players enough on offense and giving them a chance to grow and get more reps. \

Nolan is not a bad guy but he also isn't HC material and his MO is doing good for a year or maybe two then it all crashes down, both at HC and co ordinator postions. Any boss will only put up with an employee being honest for so long. After said employee keeps making the same mistakes or different mistakes the employer usually thanks him for his time and explains they are going in a different direction. Nolan is no different here then all of the other places where he was fired.

Since 2000 he has been employed by 6 different teams, Redskins, 49ers, Jets, Ravens, Broncos and now us. Thats less then 2 years at each team. Good coaches are not moving around that much.
