Seems like the decks are being cleared for the new hire, with Nolan leaving, have to wonder if it means Todd Bowles is bumped to DefCord? Or the new HC is going to hire his own DefCord?
really mike? .......................really? lol. interesting. not sure how i feel. uneasy is a good way to explain it thus far
Didn't he still have a year left on his contract? Does this mean the new HC is already known and has already said he didn't want Nolan? Does this mean it could be Zimmer since he is a DC?
Absolutely, it's the smart play, he lands a spot in Atlanta, fat contract, new HC hires his guy Nolan is more or less a coaching mercenary at this point, a turnaround specialist who then takes his whistle and moves elsewhere. I had thought he'd end up in Dallas, but Ryan's D did not play well enough to warrant a bump to a head coaching slot.
Hopefully this gives the FO a little nudge into cleaning out the whole coaching staff if a candidate wants to do so.
I'm guessing this means Mike Zimmer is our top choice, which I'd be very happy with. Have to wait and see though.
Has to be the Zimmerman and this is weird move cause Nolan was under contract.. I think for sure we will have a new coach this week... Than again this is the Dolphins... I think the Dolphins are moving real fast now as they are scared they will lose out on there 2nd and third choices especially since Indy is now looking for a new Head Coach with today's firing of Jim Caldwell. Wonder if Fisher is now saying damn....

No way we let a contracted coach move laterally without knowing who our headcoach is. Expect something announced soon.
Why? Why can't an offense coordinator have an opinion of what kind of defense he wants to run when he takes over a team?

I will be extremely surprised if any of the present Dolphins coaches are retained. I have to suspect that the new head coach will want to bring in his own staff and since everyone seems to be blaming the coaching for the play of the team over the past few years, I don't see the new HC wanting to be burdened by the Sparano holdovers.
Sounds like he jumped ship. If we actually did fire him, man, WTF? Just heard Cote on Lebatard @ this. Cote said Nolan had the #3 rush defense...LOL. Who the hell would run when they can/did fly?
I don't know why this is such a big surprise. Todd Bowles almost certainly has superseded Nolan as the favored in-house DC candidate, and he's the more scheme flexible guy.
I don't know what that means, but sure. Do virtually all our players already not line up in the same positions with a variation on the same responsibilities in our Nickel package?
Meh, we've gone hybrid in the past. We don't have a Zach Thomas is all. Doesn't matter either way, playing against Pats we need a base nickel defense. Shotgun/spread formation is the future of the NFL. If you don't have pass rushers, you're just plain screwed.
Ross only tried to hire Harbaugh last year and look what kind of hire he has been. I wouldn't call that a boobery search.
meh? okay, when opponents stick to their 2 wides 1 TE & 2 backs set who in our front seven will get to the QB. Wake? He's more comfortable on the left side, meaning the O's Strong-side so he'll get neutralized all game. Can Misi play in space? Out of all of the backers only Dansby & Burnett are quick enough. Where will the inside push come from? Plus, what about depth? Not only do you have to worry about the starting front 7 but their back-ups as well. Most of the personnel is big & slow.
5-6 defense...3 NT's in the middle, two traditional 4-3 edge rushers on the outside, 2 strong safety/LB hybrids that roam and act as LB's, 4 mighty might CB gamblers. Run blitz every time, maybe keep a safety in to spy on running QB's. Otherwise, screw it, keeping the pressure on and making turnovers is the only way to counter these pinball hurry-up offenses. The answer is more pressure, not more people in the secondary.
McCoy will be coming in for a 2nd interview on Thursday so the Dolphins still have not made a decision. I guess they let Nolan blindly walk.
Based on ross' lack of football knowledge, i'm starting to think maybe king carl suggested Harbaugh to ross, or at the least gave ross his endorsement.
Wake already lines up virtually exclusively on the offenses strong side. No 3-4 OLB in the league last year spent as high a percentage of his snap count on one side as Wake did the left side last year. Also, how is the lack of another pass rusher somehow any different? Jared Odrick got the most of our Nickel snaps off the edge on the right side. All 300lbs. of him. He already does. No starting 3-4 OLB in the league last year dropped into coverage more than Koa Misi, and given the trend towards guys like Misi as 4-3 OLBs, I don't think it's all that extraordinary. That's two. You need three, and one is going to get pulled on 50% of snaps anyway. You take your guys who are defensive ends, and you move them to the 1 and 3-techniques they play now in our Nickel package and have spent most of their NFL careers doing.
