Wouldnt it be easier if you just root for another team?

So Philbin doesn't deserve a serious evaluation if the team finishes 7-9 or 6-10?

I made a hypothetical scenario, which is far from a crazy fan theory. If we finish poorly Philbin could be fired. Shanahan COULD be fired in Washington. Do you disagree with that?

If that happens, then be prepared for Ross to bring in Shanahan for at the very least an interview.

Save the spiel pretending like I made some crazy "trade Mike Wallace and Mike Pouncey for Adrian Peterson" thread

Wow, talk about people really misinterpreting the thread.

Please go back and re-read it for clarity.

I don't really expect Philbin to be fired even at 7-9 given how Ross has recently talked about him. But I think it's clearly a possibility, which is why I started the thread.

It sad how some fin fans will love to make excusses for the losing . this scandal hasn't played its course yet either and Philbin along with Sherman have not impressed me at all. but I will throw out some coaches that should be considered.

    Mike Martz .

    Steve Mariuchi (spelling)

Mike Shula reason ? he is growing as a coach and could be a great coach IMO .

Rob Ryan I am not sure about him being a head coach , but I would just think about it.

Jay Gruden might be my first choice

my question is , are there any Minority canidates that is really good ?

not a big fan of shanahan, but his son as offensive coordinator would be intriguing. kyle is pretty decent.

Gruden is making more money in the booth than he was making as an NFL HC. He doesn't have the pressure of having to get a team ready week in and week out and he doesn't have to work the long hours required of an NFL HC. I just don't see him really wanting to give up the position he has with ESPN to go back into the NFL as a head coach again.

As far as Shanahan is concerned. He was a great HC when he had John Elway as his QB and a great running game with the Broncos. He really hasn't done much as a HC since Elway retired. He is probably better than Philbin, but hopefully if Ross decides to hire a new HC after this season, he can do better than Shanahan.

I'm not sure this fanbase would be patient with Shanahan, Gruden, Cowher or even Jesus. It would be 10 win seasons or better or the GTFO Marching Band would be clearing their spit valves.

Shanahan was 47-17 with Elway at QB. He is 123-115 without him.

Jake Plummer's records as a QB with the Broncos under Shanahan:

    2003: 9-2
    2004: 10-6
    2005: 13-3
    2007: 7-4

Jay Cutler came on and does, well.... what Jay Cutler does. Hard to coach, plays with a Cowboy like attitutude, and Shanahan bears blame. And they still managed to finish under .500 only once in a 10 season period.

I'm sorry, but I find it ridiculous that we are talking about new head coaching candidates when we are sitting at 5 and 5 with the majority of our division games still left to play.

How about we stop giving a **** about what the fanbase thinks and let football people make football decisions... w/o the influence of highly emotional judgements made by an irrational group of people (fans).

I agree w/ this. You can't afford to have a GM who has weaknesses, especially if you are not sure what his strengths are. To his credit the checkbook looks really nice for next year.

13 of those seasons his offense was top 10 in points scored. I'm not sure who you'd think of before Kubiak when talking about blue chip offensive coordinators.

I think the record, barring a "close out the season with all wins/substantial playoff performance" is the ONLY thing that will keep this regime intact. So, the rumors can fly as to who the next guy will be...but as to Shanny, no thanks... Another retread that only wants complete autonomy of the organization and clearly, based on his records at both Denver and Washington indicate he is not a great personnel guy...

I would be sick to my stomach if we hired Shanahan. He is DONE as an NFL coach. He also brings his brother along which isn't good at all. He hasn't done a thing in Washington, he hasn't done a thing in his career without Elway and TD. He's possibly the most overrated coach I can think of. He's a horrible choice. I would much rather stick with Philbin than go with Shanahan. Terrible, terrible idea, I hope Ross isn't this dumb.

I think any fan that thinks a head coaching change will make more than a game's difference in this team is whistling dixie, and I'm one that supports making a change.

I hope this go around the fans realize that no coach is perfect, and that the positive impact of coaching is not nearly as much as the positive impact of making plays on the field has on winning.

You're right which doesn't really make it any better. But more to the point, his staff isn't anything to write home about and he would certainly want a say in drafting or signing players as well. He's not a good choice.

I totally agree with that, especially if he wanted to bring Jim Haslett as his DC. Jim is a current day Tom Olivadotti.
