This was probably my favorite coaching hire of the off-season. I'm really excited to see what he can bring to the team. I think that he and Philbin knowing each other and having worked together is going to be a big plus for us. I'm sure they're going to be able to work together. This could be partially just coach-speak, but he seems real sincere and I have a feeling that this is going to be a great match. We shall see. :up:

Once again, the Defense blew 4 4th qtr leads, it also gave up 13 pts more than we scored 5 times, all this focus on the offense is misplaced.

We have a defense that can for the most part stop good offenses. We finished 6th in scoring D. The main thing we need to work on is pass rush and turnovers. We DO NOT have an offense that can score against the top defenses. Moore's more prolific games were against KC, BUF x 2, and NE. The number 12 (in a weak division), 30 x 2, and 15 scoring Defenses. His more efficient games still amounted to 2 losses against Dallas and Denver, and one win against Oakland. In 13 games, he had 6 clunkers, 3 efficient games, and 4 prolific ones. That isn't good enough production from the offense.
A fourth quarter lead after having 15 points is trash, so is 16, 17, and 19. The only real meltdown was the NE game. Don't score 15 points then tell your D they messed up for letting the next team score 17, 18, 20, and 20. Those are low scores in the NFL. Is it too much to ask the offense to score 21 points? 21 points or 3 TD's was all that was necessary for a 10 win season.
If we had scored 25 points in the games we lost, which is something 7 teams did on average in all their games, we'd have won 12 games with our D. 9 teams scored 24 points per game. That's 11 wins and a 4th quarter tie in a 12th. Almost half of the NFL (15 teams) scored 23.1 PPG or more. That's a 10 win season and a fourth quarter tie in an 11th.
If we can do what HALF of the NFL is doing on offense, we're a playoff team.
EDIT: Moore's clunkers were against the 22, 24, 20, 21, 10, and 20 (2nd Jets game) scoring D's. You tell me if we have a good enough offense to win. ONE good defense in the whole set. THOSE are the defenses that gave Matt Moore and our offense trouble.
You seem to want us to be the 2010 Tampa Bay Buccaneers that went 10-6 after beating exactly ONE above .500 team. -
I like so far what this team is doing to get this team ready to go for training camp.

Pads, this isn't a piece about all of the team needs. There are and have been and will be many more threads to discuss team needs. This happens to be a piece about our NEW OFFENSIVE Coordinator and his thoughts on the future and potential of the OFFENSE going forward and taking it to the next level. Is it just coach speak?...maybe. Only time will tell, but it sounds good for now, so put that in your pipe and smoke it.... :pointlol:

Our offense wasn't pure trash but I do think people overrated it. It was the #20 offense in the league in the only stat that really matters, ultimately...points.

When the games counted (i.e., before they were 0-7), the Dolphins had 6 games in a row in which they scored 17 points or less. I simply don't think that they can put much stock in how they played once they were eliminated. It's easier to play loose and free and gamble a bit more on offense because they have nothing to lose. So, they play differently. It wasn't the defense that eliminated the Dolphins from contention; it was the offense early on.
The offense certainly improved, nevertheless. But, there are still needs: QB, OL and another WR. You simply need the best players you can get that can make big plays.
Obviously, there are D needs as well: Another pass rusher, a S, a better pass defense overall. But, the QB position and another big play offensive weapon would go a long way on this team. I'm just hoping GB lets their backup QB go and that we can sign him to compete with Moore. And, if we can sign a WR - that would let us go into the draft with a lot less pressure and just go BPA in round 1 (or even trade down if our guy is not there).
An an explosive offense is simply vital unless you are coached by a man named Harbaugh (even at that, they did not make the SB). Miami still does not have that. And, the more explosive and successful the offense is, that can instill more fight in the defense. But, both sides of the ball need shoring up in similar fashion.
