Candidate for release from the Cowboys. Same age as Jennings, 29, and a supposed Ireland find back in his Cowboys days. Thoughts? http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/42299/59/wide-receivers-on-the-move
Eh, personally I prefer developing our own Wr's BUT Austin is a fine player and I'd take him in .000001 tenth of a second.
I perfer a WR that can get seperation & stretch the field. Our current group of recievers, can not do that. So a player like Miles Austin would be a big upgrade for us. I still perfer Wallace & Jennings over him.
The guy you'd like to get from Dallas IMo, is Ogletree. Fourth year player who is ascending to a degree. May not be a #1, but he will should be a quality player who would put up 500-600 yards a year quite easily. And, we could use another player like that for us. He's only 24-25 I think as well.
Austin worries me as much as Jennings. He was injured a lot this year and looked like he lost a step. Plus, not for nothing that whole Dallas team sans Spencer, Lee and Ware seem to come up small in big spots..they are the anti-clutch.
Not for 6 mill a year, if he gets released and we can get him cheaper then maybe but he's injured way too much to risk a big contract on. When he's healthy he's a really good player but...
I know its unreasonable but I dont want anyone that is or was a Cowboy player. In fact they can have Ireland back too......please.
Majority of the time the guy takes a paycut and stays with his team. As for which Wr's, Matthews comes to mind.
are you guys kidding me? I would take Austin in a heartbeat if he was released, not for 6 mil a year type of money but come on. Have you seen who RT has to work with?
Yeah I find it pretty wild that we have a lengthy thread about giving Hartline this same amount of money. Austin is a baller, and maybe a change of scenery would be beneficial to him.
The debate here should be this. Should Miami look at Miles Austin, who is getting older and has become injury prone over the past three years, or should they just draft the guy that is the spitting image on the field of Miles Austin in the draft in Keenan Allen? There is more unknown with Keenan, but he looks and plays like Miles Austin. With Keenan, you probably get him cheaper and also have him longer, and there are no injury questions.
Agreed, every time I watched them he made plays. Is he a FA though? If so, maybe he would be this versions of Pierre Garcon, though hopefully sans the huge contract.
I'd take Jennings over Austin if I had to choose between the two. Jennings was recovering from a hernia from what I understand and the Packers just took their time inserting him into the line-up along with the delayed surgery. Austin seems to be good for 2-3 pulled hamstrings per year nowadays. Jennings knows the system better and is less injury prone than Austin, IMO.
Don't see anyway we get both. Really don't see Wallace getting released by the Steelers. Would prefer Jennings but it may be both Jennings and Austin would be affordable. Wallace would not be affordable, if he were released.
If Austin could stay on the field he would be an ideal addition to a WC offense and his price tag I'm guessing will be less than Jennings. Austin plays angry, I like those kind of guys on my team.
They sure gave antonio brown a nice contract. Lets not assume Wallace will be available because the steelers cant pay him. He's just looking for way too much $.
I wouldnt be opposed to a scenerio where we signed Jennings or Wallace as our number one, and then picked up Austin as our number two if he were cut by Dallas if we werent able to come to an agreement with Hartline. Id still take a WR in the second (or late first in a trade down) as well.
Why are we even having this discussion? He can't stay healthy. If he was on our team this year, the end result would be the same. We'd still be looking for WR's in the off-season. No thanks. Wallace is the guy we should target in F.A. and a rookie with one of our top 3 picks for development.
He is a beast when healthy but he hardly ever is. He has chronic hamstring issues. So , he is a stud....but just cant stay on the field.
I want no part of Ogletree. I like Miles Austin. Always have. But where I think Greg Jennings "injury issues" are mostly overblown, Miles Austin seems to me like a guy whose injury issues really are very concerning.
Speaking of Laurent Robinson, classic overpay situation in Jacksonville but you wonder if that could be remedied this off season with the emergence of Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon. People don't realize that Robinson's MAIN problem this year was health, which has been a problem for him in the past as well. He actually had a slightly higher yards per pass snap figure than Justin Blackmon, and that was with the distinct disadvantage of having the bulk of his playing time come with Blaine Gabbert at quarterback rather than Chad Henne. Henne may not have been "good" overall, but when he came in Weeks 11 thru 17 is when Blackmon and Shorts really turned it on. That's when they had 1033 of their 1844 combined yards, and 7 of their combined 12 touchdowns. And that was with Shorts missing 2 games during that span. In other words the two jumped from combining for 90 yards and 0.6 TDs per game with Gabbert, to combining for 172 yards and 1.2 TDs per game with Henne. That's a massive difference, one that Laurent Robinson was unfortunately never healthy enough to take advantage of. In fact when you look at Blackmon's pre-Week 11 yardage per pass snap, it was 0.69 yards per pass snap which is terrible, whereas Robinson's was 1.41 yards per pass snap. So Blackmon went from being a 0.69 yards per pass snap guy to being a 1.92 yards per pass snap guy because of the QB change. Long story short, Laurent Robinson got overpaid based on what he did in Dallas, but I don't think he's valueless as a player. He might be cut this off season because of that contract. Before Dallas got hold of him I always thought he would make a fine low level free agent addition, and I still think he provides vertical ability to an offense. Based on the poor, injury-riddled, over-paid season he just finished off...I think he's going to have to accept a MASSIVE reduction in pay if/when he gets cut. And if that pendulum swings too far the other way, I wouldn't mind taking a bite.
