While he wasn't amazing, a 4.0 yards per carry he averaged this year behind maybe one of the worst lines in nfl history is slightly impressive. Give him an OC and linemen that know how block and run screens and I think he blooms. We do need a power back like lacy who just keeps going after first contact.

 

never really liked Miller but hes not a lost cause yet. I want another back to come in but Miller should still be utilized next season.

 

I actually cant recall any real impressive Miller runs.

I'll take a C Hyde from OSU. I think he could be our starting RB and Miller be the complementary RB.

 

I'd love Carlos Hyde or even Jeremy hill in later rounds.

 

Miller I think is a back who needs to share the workload and be used on specific kind of plays. He was good on outside runs. It's just the team couldn't block the outside zone worth a **** and was unwilling to get the players who could pull well in those positions.

 

We need an Arian Fosteresque back as the number 1 and Miller can be the number 2 in the Ben Tate role. As others have said, draft Hyde if he is around when it would make sense

 

I don't think it's necessary to find complimentary skillsets just find good football players.

Miller when he did happen to get into the open field seemed discombobulated, almost an anxiety..lol...wasn't pretty, and it's been happening since his rookie year, losing balance once in the clear...very weird..

 

Was thinking about the future for Miami, it's easy to say it but mirror Seattle. Instead of having one charger and one little guy why not have 2 of the same and build a system that works instead. Their whole team is built on depth and players dropping in being almost identical in nature. Establish a system first then draft to that.

A talented Dolphins' player under performing? That's a trend on this team and with this coaching staff. They seem to take pleasure in using "their stuff" regardless of what their players are actually good at.

 

Can't argue at all with him being amongst the top 25 most disappointing, but I've not given up on him yet. He better show something next season though, especially with a new co-ordinator calling plays. That's assuming Lazor's better than Sherman of course...which I'm going to do, because I just can't cope with imagining him being worse!

 

4.0 ypc behind that line pretty much means it was scheme or under-utilization really.

 

Fwiw, bill Polian has stated that he's very fond of Lazor and thinks this offense will be better.

Offensive line was simply that bad at run blocking, one cut and go became "dodge the defender in the back field", add in outside runs were limited by a lack of athleticism at the Tackle position.

It was sad watching Sherman call for outside screens and neither tackle had a shot at getting out there

 

Our whole offense underperformed so why should Miller be any different? Our offensive line could have been better used as paper weights and if Hickey doesn't give it the number one priority we may suffer through another long and disappointing season.

I can only hope Philbins methods pay off, he's got one more year to show if he can motivate an entire team to become unified and better, and there only one way to become better, each individual must work on their craft during the offseason, and it's his job to instill that inspiration.

 

Agreed. Miller didn't play well but he was pretty much set up to fail. The primary run calls were inside and outside zone, which were typically blocked poorly. That's not just on the OL, the TEs and FB didn't block well either. Miller needs a crease, he's not a guy who's going to bulldoze his way through a LB consistently but that's what he was being asked to do. In the pass game he's a good guy to put into the flats on check downs or in space on screens. So of course they usually kept him the backfield and he was routinely getting bulldozed as a pass protector, again, not his strength.

The entire design of the offense was flawed, hopefully Sherman was the problem and Lazor can comes in and uses the guys we have more efficiently b/c I don't think its realistic to expect a massive influx of talent between now and the start of next season.

 

Why would you argue he's not a starting caliber RB? I think he can be. A Zac Stacy gets accolades and runs 3.9 ypc. Marshawn Lynch? 4.1. YPC isn't everything I know, and Lynch is a beast after contact, but build a good blocking line and we'll see if Miller can't run. As it is, he ran 4.0ypc behind an Oline that is not the envy of any team.

I'm not saying he is as good, but his build isn't much different than a Charles or McCoy. Let's see what Lazor does with him. Of course you draft another RB and send Thomas to walk the plank, but then I think we'll end up with two good RBs and that's not a bad thing.

A backfield of Larry Csonka and John Riggins couldn't have run behind that offensive line.

 

The player is not a disappointment; you could argue that the results are, and you'd be right. But Miller is being used in a way that handcuffs him; he's a back who needs to work in space, yet the combination of a poor OL letting defenders into the backfield on every running play, and Mike Sherman's Straitjacket Offense® conspire against him. Still, he posted a good average in the face of all that, and that's in his favor.

 

I think the Brown's are going to trip all over themselves to get him. He's a Buckeye so he might fill some seats for them too.

I love how Lamar's failure is his OL fault (it is) but Reggie ran behind almost the same line and it was his fault... He was dancing too much they said... Trying to find a non existent hole in reality.

 

Lamar ran for 5 ypc last year behind that line.

I'm a Reggie supporter by the way. My positions are entirely consistent.

 

Theres enough blame for everyone to have a slice IMO. Miller ran tentatively, the blocking wasn't good and that's not just the OL bc the TE and FBs were suspect also, the play calls were predictable and not well suited to the players on the field. Same goes for the pass pro. The OL wasn't good but they're getting more than their share of the blame.

 

Browns fans are some loyal mofos. They always have a full stadium.
