Armon Binns is very interesting. Fantastic measurables (6"2 210) and catches with his hands. This could be a start of a good group of WRs under Philbin like he created in GB
I honestly just wish we could do more of our talent acquisition through the draft. I want players that feel more like 'ours'. I'm not complaining if this group of guys lights it up though.
A 6-3 slot receiver could cause match-up problem for some of the league's smaller safeties. Anyone know why the Bungals cut him? He had decent numbers for them????
He didn't really have decent numbers for them. He had 210 yards on 18 catches and 29 attempts and 190 routes. That's a low yards per catch (11.7), a low yards per attempts (7.2) and a low yards per route (1.11). I'm not trying to kill the guy, I liked him coming out of the draft, but you wanted to know why Cincinnati was disappointed with him and then you said he had decent numbers. I'm just letting you know that no he didn't really have decent numbers and that probably goes a long way toward why they were disappointed in him.
until they start to tweet, here is a little piece by Adam Beasley Miami Dolphins trying to lure Vonta Leach
Personally, I'll be surprised if Binns survives training camp. He was never all that impressive at UC other than his TD catch to beat Pitt to give them an undefeated season. I don't recall exactly why the Bengals cut him. I know he started out the year as a starter and fell out of favor to the point they released him. They do have a glut of talent at the position as well with Mohamed Sanu, Marvin Jones, and Andrew Hawkins.
Appreciate the input. I noticed his catches came in bunches, 4 one game then none. I wasn't sure if he was depth, not included in the gameplan, or what. We can hope he is a guy who develops a bit slower and is now getting up to speed. He put up good numbers in the Big East and hurt my USF Bulls a number of times if memory serves.
seven teams interested in Leach.. i doubt we get him... of course, we didn't hear about the multiple teams interested from his agent until after he met with Miami. So maybe we're too low for his agent's liking.
I always liked him at Cincinnati. I thought he was a better receiver than Mardy Gilyard when they played together. Binns had 21 touchdowns and 2000 receiving yards in his last two seasons at Cincinnati. That's pretty impressive. If you look at Tony Pike's numbers before Armon Binns became one of his starters, and then you look at Zach Collaros' numbers after Armon Binns left...I think Binns helped make those QBs look good.
I have a feeling Hartline, Lamar Miller, Clay and Rishard Matthews can/will be very important this year. (All drafted)
When it comes to WR's I don't take anything from Mini-camp. Wait till the pads are on and see whose performing then.
What I find interesting is Joe Philbin's explanation that he's working Binns in the slot because sometimes he likes to see a bigger player with a wider catch radius working over the middle as a friendlier target for the QB. That's kind of what the tight end position is supposed to be for in this offense, as in Green Bay they had those kinds of slot targets in Jermichael Finley and Andrew Quarless. They haven't been getting much out of Clay or Egnew in that regard, so that could be why the 6030 and 210 lbs Binns is in there.
and then there is always Mike Wallace´s Dad... Story 4 Undrafted Players who could be Gems Did anyone of these guys got mentioned recenty ?
I've got a good Mardy Gilyard story from one of my buddies who played at UC. The short version of it is apparently after Brian Kelly and the staff left for ND, those who stayed to coach the team in the Sugar Bowl didn't really care and essentially let the players run amok in New Orleans. Apparently Mardy Gilyard was wearing a Michaelangelo Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costume at 2am the morning of the game just cruising Bourbon Street raising hell.
Haven't seen any mention of them from mini-camp. Bumphis did get mentioned from OTA's as making plays, as the article says, but gone quiet since then.
second string. In the States, in our high school sports, you have Varsity (the best team) and the Junior Varsity (JV) which is the lesser team.
I think its everyone but the starters, because I have heard him mention a "JV defender" picking off Matt Moore.....although they probably mix JV against 2's and 1's etc. All in all, it doesnt really ****ing matter because its June 13th lol
Yeah. he calls 2nd string second string. JV are the scrubs and rooks who are battling. Did Marvin McNutt die or something? Haven't heard his name.
How do you not give serious playing time to a dude named Bumphis? I mean, how would you sleep at night otherwise?
This is good to hear. And, so, so much about the NFL - if you have a degree of talent - is how hard you work on your craft, how well you can mentally pick up the game to improve your speed and decision-making and then playing fast. What Philbin noted was that he was playing a lot faster - of course, he was cautious to talk very highly about him realizing the time of year. But, with his size, speed combo if he can get it together in his head, work hard to catch everything in sight - he could be a factor. There are a lot of WRs who started out slow or were marginal who worked hard and improved - then sort of came out of nowhere to be solid starters in the league. The Packers have been notorious for getting players who were not top round picks but became solid starters.
Fun fact: That llama was recorded in that stare when someone told him there was a football player named Bumphis.
interesting tidbit from bill polian at the end of this article http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/dolphins/2013/06/12/ryan-tannehill-tom-brady/2415211/
