Finally we should be able to rest Wake w/o the pass rush disappearing completely. Keeping him fresh for late in games/seasons is going to pay major dividends.
Talking about Olivier Vernon? He's got a long way to go on the pass rush front. Any claims of his that he's improved on that front should be viewed skeptically. He'll have to prove it on the field.
yeah shocked about the words he used in combination with our team...."big offensive year", "loaded with explosive playmakers", "lamar miller, NFL's best kept secret", i would love if he is right but he is really putting his rep on the line with this article, but i love it and the homer that i am...i agree lol
In his press conference Philbin said something I found interesting when asked about Olivier Vernon. He said they've been moving the line more than last year and Olivier is doing a good job understanding his changing responsibilities based on the line movement, e.g. now he has the B gap or now he has to come all the way to the A gap, etc. That's a good reveal on some things we'll see this year.
Another interesting thing during Kevin Coyle's interview which was probably yesterday. Watch his reaction toward the end when asked about the defense playing more zone. He seems genuinely baffled on where the hell that rumor came from, and you can tell he's been hearing that from the media for a while and wondering why they would think that for a while. I remember it seemed like this overnight switch in reality and I felt like I missed what everyone else saw or read that caused it. Overnight the question on everyone's tongue became, what players do we need or not need now that we're switching to a zone scheme. I remember asking some people where the hell this assumption of the zone scheme came from and it seemed like nobody could tell me. Sort of like a scifi movie where you wake up and someone jumped back in time and changed something so now reality has changed but you're the only one that remembers what it was before and so you're just walking around confused at the changes. That's how I felt during the zone craze. Then Jeff Ireland flat out dismissed the idea that the Dolphins are a zone defense, said they're primarily man and very little zone. Now Kevin Coyle is almost in a belly laugh trying to figure out where it's coming from that the Dolphins are a zone defense this year.
brent grimes also said something about it in his short interview today, that as far as he knows the scheme is the same as last years http://www.miamidolphins.com/media/...nto_2013/26b3fa89-a889-420a-8f29-fa09b42cd330
according to david canter one of the tryouts from 2 days ago WR Joe Hastings was signed by Miami https://mobile.twitter.com/finsjesse/status/345283607755104256
Oh wow he straight up corrected Omar explaining that just because it's off coverage doesn't mean it's zone.
He really has to perform first. He certainly has the potential to be a great kicker. But, as Philbin said, it's going to be the kicker who is most consistent on FGs and on kickoffs. If he is even with Carpenter then they will keep him b/c he is so much cheaper.
Feelin kinda groovy feeling kinda lean da da na an na da na.. See what happens when real analysts get around to watching some tape instead of meatheads like Evans who haven't a fu&$in clue and just puke out the mouth.
Man, I would be wrong on that guy, been pretty hard on him this offseason, that colt game fu$&ed me up good.. Have you isolated him at all this offseason?
I know that their fanbase is not happy with how their front 7 defends the run, and I know their not happy with how their oline runblocks.
Luckily, TC starts early this year because of the HOF game. Coach said camp opens July 20th. (37 days)
Alex, Are you crazy man, football season starts in 37 days..first day of training camp is what it's all about, that's when your developing the team for hopefully something special, and getting information overload on all our prospects and inner workings of the team.. 37 days for me bud and I'm good, the actual first regular season game is fine, but there is so much more before hand.. You gonna tell me you ain't gonna be excited about seeing the new uni under the lights in canton, with al michaels and Collinsworth on the call, the joy of seeing all our players and scrubs and putting that on a tape so we can dissect the next day????? What???? Come on man!!!
Omar Kelly The Dolphins signed receiver Joe Hastings and defensive tackle Tracy Robertson and waived receiver Courtney Gardner and FB Ina Liaina.
Ina Liaina and Courtney Gardner both gone. Surprised at Liaina. The reports from media seemed to suggest he was doing a lot better than Rupert Bryan but maybe they understand Bryan struggling since he's transitioning from OL to FB. Also they signed DT Tracy Robertson, who tried out along side WR Joe Hastings.
Carroll doesn't have half the ball skills that Marshall does. Starting him over Marshall wouldn't give us our best starting 11 IMO. Philbin makes a positive comment about Carroll and all the sudden he deserves to start over Marshall I guess.
while agree with some points...no way is Carroll a starter. He will be lucky to be the 4th cb bc he can't play slot. There is not 1 thing he does well
What makes you think Vernon is poised to start? Starks got the franchise tag, he's starting. Do you think big Paul sits?
Hmm, I swear we signed some pass rusher from Fresno state that they said is like the poormans version of Dion Jordan?, was that your boy?,
When Carroll was drafted I thought he was a steal. Prior to breaking his leg, he was on track to be a top tier drafted CB. I thought he struggled mightily with the trail technique Coach Coyle seems to prefer. That doesn't mean he won't be better at it this year. I thought Marshall played OK last year before he was injured but think Carroll has a higher ceiling.
I was probably the first guy here who said I'd take Nolan Carroll going forward over Richard Marshall, Marshall really isn't good. Jamar Taylor should be better too. I'd cut Marshall, along with releasing Dan Carpenter that frees up 7 mil.
I doubt saving money is an issue. Anyone who makes the team will be the better player. Last year is irrelevant.
So players are generally sick of mini-camp by the 3rd day. Coach Joe, says eff it, lets scrimmage..... Every player had a twinkle in their eye when asked about it afterwards. Coaches couldn't stop saying how well they thought it went. A-Joe-men.
Marshall isn't good based on what? The 3 games he played for us before injury? If I recall, he was pretty solid for Arizona.
