http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...ce-notes-ryan-tannehill-continues-to-impress/ Good news for Ryan Tannehill fans. Ben Volin believes that Ryan continued to be impressive, though obviously not as much as yesterday. This was a sentiment that was echoed by Armando: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...appening-at-dolphins-camp-monday-edition.html Earlier Ben Volin tweetes something along the lines of (paraphrased): "It's hard not to notice that David Garrard throws with better velocity and accuracy than Matt Moore." He reiterated that sentiment (in different words) in his blog update. Part of me wants to say to Matt Moore, hang it up man...your last supporter just abandoned you. Not really, but the point remains, Volin has been a staunch supporter of Moore since last season. If even he's starting to doubt, then it must be obvious at this point that Garrard is currently winning the battle. Moore is supposed to be a gamer. So what he needs to do is have a great showing during this weekend's scrimmage. It's not technically a game but it's about as close to game situations as you get prior to preseason. If he continues to get outperformed at the scrimmage by Garrard then I think it would take a drastically lopsided victory in the first preseason game for him to get back into the race and potentially win the job with a follow-up performance in the second preseason game. Otherwise, the way things are going, you have to think that Garrard may start to see increased 1st string snaps after the 1st preseason game, even if they tie during that game.
They'd be claiming a fourth straight Super Bowl guarantee in Cortland with that kind of performance. Sent from my iPhone
THis was good to read if it holds up. If Martin can start and play well at the RT spot, it's the 2nd most important upgrade on the roster this year outside of QB.
If Tannehill continues to impress, he needs to get a few snaps with the 1st team, if only to see how he responds. You need to let him play alot as well in the scrimmage and in the first two pre-season games. To me, as long as he's not getting killed back there and doesn't look completely overmatched, he should play. Garrard/Moore should have to be miles better than him to keep him off the field.
Glad to hear that Ryan has seemed to string together back to back good practices right off the bat. I'm still trying to temper my enthusiasm about the kid... but I went into yesterday's practice expecting to see a QB that looked raw and made mistakes. And he didn't look like that yesterday...
I like the continued confidence in Tannehill. I'll be happy and tingly if he takes first team snaps and continues to improve. But I will say, if he has a rough 1st team practice or couple of series, it's not the end of the world.
There was definitey a sizable gap between Garrard/Tannehill and Moore yesterday. However, just to temper expectations a little... let's also keep in mind the level of competition Tannehill is going against. Throwing passes over Cameron Collins and Kevyn Scott is a lot different than throwing over Karlos Dansby and Vontae Davis. Here's to hoping it's more of the same against the better players as well!
You expect up and down with rookies. If you can get 'average with flashes' out of them in their first season, that's really good. The fact that Martin does not appear over-matched out there is a great thing. Now when the pads go on in preseason, that's going to be another level of intensity. And it'll go up yet another notch in Week 1. But this is where it starts. The ground level. And he's not pissing the bed against pretty stiff competition. As for Tannehill, considering he wasn't expected to be ready in 2012, I'll take 'has looked really good against the backups' right now. The key is he's showing marked improvement in deficient areas from just six weeks ago.
I'll say this about Jon Martin...Cam Wake's not the kind of guy I expect him to have trouble with based on what I saw in college.
Poor choice of words lol I still remember Nate Soldier HOLDING the hell out of Wake's jersey the entire game last year. Too bad the Pats never get called for holding.
I dunno, Cam Wake is no easy task for any T in this league. Not getting ur *** kicked by a guy who wreaks havoc on all of his opponents is a very good sign.
If I am reading between the lines, he is a better LT than RT. He handles speed much better than strength, I saw that in his tape too. I wonder if our long term goal is for him to eventually man the left side. I think he is a much better fit over there honestly.
Wake is very talented and I have no doubt he's abusing Jon Martin on certain plays. Nonetheless, not the kind of player I expected Martin to have a ton of trouble with.
I would keep him on the right side. I don't think he's good enough for the left. But that will also depend on his development.
I just didn't see a lot of strength in him to man the right side. I'm scared he might be one of those players that doesn't necessarily fit on the right or left side.
I wouldn't get too caught up in that. You put your best tackle at left tackle in my opinion, and your second best tackle at right tackle. I don't know if he's good enough to be a #1. But he might be a good #2.
There were a couple overthrows on deep balls that could of been completed with better timing, but he also hit on some deep balls as well, this is football practice, you look at the totality of the players skills.. Tell you what he was doing even better than yesterday..Telling 2nd teamers what to do..Dude is itching to play with equal talent.
Tanny is the QB of the future .The more reps he gets the sooner he will be ready to start .Remember Marino started in game 6 of his rookie year. They do have a couple of things in common.Great arms and supreme confidence in themselves. I would bet that he will start at some stage of this season.Moore and Gerrard will be serviceable caretakers until Tanny takes over.
Personally if Tannehill shows he's "right there" in the QB competition you have to seriously consider starting him sooner than later, unless someone like Garrard takes the reins and plays like an all-pro.
His week one test will be a helluva indicator...oh just JJ Watt and Connor Barwin with Wade Phillips and his mastermind being thrown at the rookie (assuming he starts)
This is correct. CK is concerned about how Martin handles POWER DE's Im sure. But like I said Week 1.
