But while Douglas, a 10-year veteran who has 20.5 career sacks, is almost certain to make the team and push for a starting defensive end job, Stanley was signed mostly for roster depth. Stanley, a former sixth-round pick out of Louisville by the Cowboys, has just 1.5 sacks in four NFL seasons while bouncing around between Dallas, St. Louis, Atlanta, New Orleans and two stints with Jacksonville. Stanley also played a stint with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL. His contract with the Dolphins did not include a signing bonus.
Stanley has played in 33 games with six starts in four seasons, and last year had 20 tackles, a sack and three passes knocked down in 15 games with the Jaguars. He was drafted by the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks in the offseason
Stanley, who stands 6-foot-2 and 302 pounds, will compete with Paul Soliai, Ryan Baker, and undrafted rookie Travis Ivey to backup starting nose tackle Randy Starks.
