Grimes - if he is 100% - is definitely a player you want to keep for another 3 seasons. With the rookies - and Grimes - the secondary could be really, really good for the first time since the days of Madison and Surtain. Maybe even better because our safeties were not so great then and Rashad Jones may be better than any of those.
If Dion Jordan can show up ... this D will be so much better than last season.
Really the whole team season could come down to two factors, maybe 3: 1) staying healthy; and 2) Jonathan Martin. If those two things come through - this team can compete with anyone. Add Jordan playing well and I like our chances against nearly anyone.Boik14 likes this. -

I have one dislike of Grimes, if one has been a fan of the NFL long enough, one recalls the fmr Bucs great Center Randy Grimes, and I tend to get the two names mixed at times.
Otherwise, Grimes, Keller and Wallace is fine with me. -

Yeah, maybe I would too, 81....but I'd take more solid play from our secondary and not be too disappointed... I think our season hinges on three things...
1) getting/staying healthy (those coming off injury returning to their previous selves and no one else getting hurt.
2) development of two or three key players (i.e. Tanny, Martin, one of the TEs not named Keller, Chris Clemons continuing his development)
3) a couple of these rookies proving they can play (Jordan, Taylor, Dallas Thomas, Will Davis).Bpk likes this. -

Dustin Keller, if he has a great yr, and I suspect he shall, is the real problem in all of this, he goes off for 1k yds and 8 Td's he will be pricey to keep..we need Egnew or Clay to do more and show they are ready to step in if it comes to it.
Defense is a different ball of wax, Jones is a must keep imo, moreso than Grimes imo.
Misi is in line to moved out via Dion Jordan unless they flop Wheeler to the strongside.
I like Clemmons but keep in mind he was a FA this year and apparently got little interest. -
1. Tannehills progression as a QB and as a leader
2. How will the contract status of so many defensive starters (6 in all - grimes, clemons, jones, soliai, starks, misi) affect their willingness to be team players? Will they stick to the scheme or play selfishly to build stats and a resume?
3. How will Lamar Miller fare in pass protection and blitz pick up? I have confidence in him as a runner (as Ive said he can be a 1200 yard guy) but the rest is a valid question.
4. Who will man the other CB spot? This is especially concerning if Jamar Taylor doesnt break camp as the starter. I dont want to see much more of Richard Marshall (Hes still a better safety then corner and the stats bear it out) and Will Davis is a slot guy.
5. Can Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson repeat last year? Can Dustin Keller, Michael Egnew (heh, all hes gotta do is actually get on the field) and Rishard Matthews improve upon their last year?

Actually prefer seeing the longshots getting an opportunity, we know what Wallace can do, we really do not know what the longshots can do. -

If that doesn't work, quick!!!, can someone find me a gif of when Wallace strait up punked Jason Allen when he had a twenty yard head start, quickly I think Duff needs us in this time of need, he's losin it man!!!!

What makes it so bad (or good) is that Chris Clemons is 18-19 yds deep and shaded towards Wallace at the snap. But for some reason he flows back to the deep middle and once he did that it was over. Allen is clearly afraid of Wallace's speed pre snap. He never bothers with a backpedal and bails almost immediately. The 9/go is the only route he was in any position to defend and he still got smoked. Also note that there was no deception whatsoever on the play. No play action, no double move, a simple 5 step drop (no hitches) and throw it as far as you can vs a defense designed specifically to prevent the big play. And the result? TD. How bout if they were playing flag football that day? TD.Mcduffie81 likes this. -
I think he is a top 5 cb when healthy. He is one of those kids who was just athletic. I bet he hit puberty early and was actually the more developed growing up.
I wish I could find game film of him. By just looking at his YouTube stuff it just looks like he is super athletic, but he is much more than that. -
Thanks fellas. Don't misconstrue my post as a negative! I just can't wait to score some more points! :knucks:

That Wallace TD actually reminds me of another Wallace TD against Miami:

I will not miss Sean Smith at all. -

Yep. Def looks like Cover 3. IMO Clemons played the defense as called instead of reading and reacting to the situation. He should have been helping over top of Wallace much sooner, as Raf pointed out. Once Miller stayed in to block there were 4 defenders covering 2 receivers on the strong side. Dansby has excellent depth on Ward's seam route, Vontae has good position (and speed to keep up) on Sanders. Allen is actually in decent position outside of Wallace, but the throw is to the inside. You're right, great job by the QB, if he takes even one hitch Wake would have been on him. It's a well defended play with the exception of Clemons.RoninFin4 and Stringer Bell like this. -
