Yeah let's get a 36 year old with a degenerative neck problem, win a few more games than normal, hurt our chances to get a QB that can be here for 12-15 years just to satisfy the desperation of people who are willing to go that route just for, MAYBE, a few more wins. Do people forget that Manning won one Super Bowl with Indianapolis? What makes anyone seriously think that he can do that with Miami in 1,2, maybe (HUGE MAYBE) three seasons with Miami at his age and with his health issues? Ridiculous. He's not the Manning he used to be. Just the same as our own beloved Marino wasn't the same his last few years. Take a reality check folks. Bad move if it goes down.

We've been looking for a 12-15 year franchise QB for 12-15 years already (I'll count Marino's final years as years we should have been looking.) Fans are sick of waiting, it's why attendance is at an all time low. People are sick of 6-10, 7-9, 8-8 seasons every year.

If people think that is Matt Moore (Its not) or Ryan Tannehill then Moore is still on the roster and Tannehill can be drafted. Dolphins have nothing to lose.

That one year we had Pennington was the most fun year I've had as a fan, I was too young for the 90s years even though I was a fan, I didn't care as much. And that was after 1-15. Imagine a healthy Peyton when the Dolphins actually have talent? Don't care if it's 2 or 3 years.

 

Man your right, lets go ahead and hire the proven bench warmer. Who knows maybe in 5-6 years he'll be as good as a 50% Peyton Manning. As I said when we pushed Marino out, a 50% Marino is better than most of the NFL starters. A 50% Manning is better than Flynn, Moore and anyone else you want to ad lib into the QB spot like we have been doing for the longest time now, almost a freaking decade.

 

And therein is the problem. This foolish idea that 50% of Marino or Manning is still good.

 

If his bro (Opie Manning) can win TWO, so can Peyton....at least one with the Phins!!!

Colts beat writer says they're still negotiating but it's likely not happening. Decision will be made tomorrow and it will be announced in the press conference. Expect a very emotional PC from Peyton. Going to be heartbreaking for him.

I love how Tanny is now seemingly a can't miss prospect to the people who don't want Manning.

Let's just see what Peyton costs before we go crazy.

 

Yeah. Who needs a quarterback who has been in the league for five years and only has one good year of note. He never won anything in those five years and we will be putting our franchise back years! Maybe he'll win a couple more games, but we need to get a fresh quarterback, not one who just had shoulder surgery and will probably never be the same again. We are doing the franchise a disservice.

Oops sorry. I thought this was 2006 and we were talking about Drew Brees. Carry on.

 

For those of you riding the Flynn train, what makes you think he can be any better than what we've had or have? He's played in 21 games since 2004......At least with Peyton we have a known commodity, whom we can sign to an incentive laden contract with outs. With Flynn we have to throw out HUGE dollars to get an even bigger "what if". I'd rather roll the dice with Matt Moore on the roster, go after Peyton and draft a QB of the future.

 

It's not about how much he will cost....

It's about how healthy will he be and when he will be healthy. The big issue with Manning is just those two things. Will he ever be the Manning of 2009 ?? The problem with this injury is that there is a chance that he won't get any stronger than what he is now. And, if you assume he'll be healthy enough to throw at the level he expects from himself, then you have to ask when will he be at that NFL level ?? Is it in April ?? May ?? August ?? September (incidentally a year from the last fusion surgery, the expected length of time for recovery), or ever ??

I would love to have a healthy Manning. I would love for us to get those 2-3 yrs of great play at the QB position that we've missed since the day the music died...(Marino retired). I don't know that we will though, and what if it doesn't work out for us...we're back to being bridesmaid's again...

 

I think the medical evidence suggest we won't have a known commodity...Now, it's possible that he'll be back nearly as good as before, but it's not a known commodity...

 

apparently, it would appear, it has been indicated, they say:

1) Peyton is healthy & expected to be @ 100% very soon. he is throwing the ball without problem, working out normally.
2) he doesn't want to retire but continue to play.
3) there is no longer an impediment to him becoming a Miami Dolphin & it is the predicted end result.
4) for the Colts it was all about Andrew Luck & the opportunity to rebuild.

We have a known commodity when healthy. If he's not healthy, again, incentive laden contract with outs. The thing you and the doctors on this board forget is that we can mitigate the risk if he ends up not being healthy.

 

Which directly effects his cost since he'll likely be getting an incentive based deal as he already stated he was open to.

Well, if he's healthy and at the level he was before the surgeries, I don't care what the cost is to get him...go get him...but only if he's healthy and at the level he was before...we don't/won't know that yet...

 

I would love for us to take a chance on Manning. If not, Moore should be the starter next season. After all these years of mediocrity and gambling on crappy QBs, I can totally handle gambling on Manning and it not working. It wouldn't upset me one bit, we as fans should be used to that.

 

Probably true, but again that is the reason Peyton has said he would be willing to sign an "incentive laden contract". Im totally against signing Manning under any other circumstance. And Medically, i've seen enough of these surgeries to believe he will come back and play at a high level.

 

And by all indications, nobody expects him to be 100% before he signs somewhere.

That's why his deal will prob be incentive based no matter what. Nobody is going to want to wait til after the draft to see how he is and then pay him more money if he's healthier.

 

That's fine, but you can't mitigate the bad season or 2 we will continue to have if he's not healthy and at the level he was before... Next year at this time, we'll be crying about still not having replaced Marino...

 

Just saw Albert Breer on NFLN talk about how he's heard from 5 different sources about how Peyton's throwing has drastically improved over the past 6 weeks.

Nerve regeneration IS happening and therefore His grip and triceps strength has progressively gotten stronger, and doctors/medically professionals have said that now that it's getting better it will not get worse. He will either continue to gain strength or will plateau, but it will not get worse.

Very little doubt he will be ready for 2012 season

I'd be all for getting Manning and still drafting Tanny though.

 

What makes you think that wouldnt happen with a newly drafted qb or with an unknown matt flynn or even with matt moore....might as well roll the dice.

 

Make Manning a Dolphin, period!!! Go for it. Is it risky? Sure, a bit, but the reward is huge - like Superbowl huge!!! Get it done Ross!!!!!! No guts, no glory!

 

I didn't say **** about "Tanny." Just the fact that a potential prospect may not want to come here because of Manning. Talking free agents. Draft picks are another story. But I don't like the idea of Manning. For whatever reason it gives the majority a hard on. He's 36. He's got a ****ed up neck. He has no long term future. It's POINTLESS!

Peyton Manning is arguably the best QB to have ever played the game.
He wants to win Superbowls to cement his name in history & underscore that fact.
No Miami Dolphin fan, coach, player, or owner will ever want it more.
Manning is the fixer.
He will establish a new attitude in Miami very quickly. Now we compete!
