For me its this insane deep ball (is it Tannehill or is it Wallace) argument...it just will never endddddd....

But what other issues like this have we debated back and forth over the years?

Pretty sure there were some about Chambers, but cant remember what they were...

I've only been around a few years...and if it's not RT's deep ball, it's Fireland...gotta be the deep ball, because with the exception of LBs crusade, there's not much mention of Pasty anymore.

Glad I missed that period. HATED the Ginn pick the second it happened.

The constant whining about Ted Ginn makes the Deep ball talk seem boring....the fanbase never liked him from the jump because they all wanted Brady Quinn. And ofcourse Ginn never living up to a top 10 pick triggered the emotions.

The MOST talked about has to be anything regarding Jeff Ireland, IMO.

From being Parcells' puppet to the players drafted to the flipping off of fans, his divisive demeanor cements his butt firmly into The Phins Fan Site "Hall of Blame".

    Olivadotti at Phins.com.

But, I'd say the most talked about was Wanny. Discussions of his drafts and lack of imagination on offense. That lasted longer than Tanny has been in the league. Consider some of the players Dave drafted: 1) Todd Wade; Ben Kelly; Deon Dyer; Arturo Freeman; Jamar Fletcher; Seth McKinney; Eddie Moore; Wade Smith; Taylor Whitley; and Vernon Carey over Vince Wilfork.

There were also long debates in their first few seasons over whether Carey was a better pick than Wilfork. That's one matter that has been clearly settled.

Ricky Williams was both revered and hated in Miami. That's hard to do. Through trading 2 1st round picks, to his 1800 yd rush season, pot smoking suspensions, retiring abruptly, coming back, teaming with Ronnie in the Wildcat. What a crazy career.

On this site is has to be Fireland, you couldn't escape it. It's still fresh around here, 2 years removed. Close 2nd would have to be the complaints against Mr. Ross. Everyone seemed to have an opinion on him, but he seems to be fading into the background which is a good thing.

    Like clockwork.

Drew Brees has got to rank somewhere. It's not often that a future HOF player has the ability to be a Miami Dolphin twice and was passed over. Although there's no way he's the most talked about, because whenever he is talked about, the conversation branches off to Wannstedt's ineptitude or Saban's quit and his handling of the fiasco and what it did to the franchise.

For a single off season: Dan Marino (after achilles injury) -v- Scott Mitchell.

It also had the quickest finish after the regular season opener when Dan blew the Pats up for something like 450 yards and 5 TDs

For me, the most long standing issue by far was our lack of a 1000 yd running back. KAJ finally broke the barrier in 1996, which hadn't been done by a Dolphins RB since Delvin Williams did back in 1978.

Obviously the answer was, neither. But the Troy Polamalu comparisons were comical the first few years.

473 yards and 5 TD's. Would have been 6 TD's if Keith Byars didn't kick Danny's pass up in the air at the goal line for the Pats only INT that game.

I was at that game with my dad. Best game I've ever seen in my life.

The annual Jeff Ireland debates dwarf this deep ball thing. The Joe Philbin debates of the last couple of years probably outsize the deep ball thing. Hell you can argue that Russell Wilson is argued about more on this board than the deep ball thing.

Chad Henne was a big one people kept coming back to over and over.

John Beck was a huge one as well, because the beat writers all had it out for him the moment he stepped into training camp and looked "small" in the huddle. But the fans mostly loved him, so there ended up being a constant feud between writers and fans.

I don't recall those two being considered competing substitutes.

I do recall a lot of discussion about signing Matt Flynn as a free agent. But that would not have necessarily precluded taking a QB in the draft. Personally I saw three options. You could go for a Brandon Weeden, go for a Ryan Tannehill, or go for Matt Flynn and then swing around and pick up a riskier asset that had tremendous upside in Russell Wilson. My preference was the latter. I was for signing Flynn when free agency started and once that happened I would have targeted Wilson in the 2nd round.

Yeah, I remember the discussions between signing Matt Flynn to a big contract or draft a QB, not necessarily Tannehill I guess. I was never on board with Flynn because he was so unproven but many were convinced he was the answer. I remember I was pretty high on Weeden as well probly because all the posts I read that you made breaking him down lol. But most who wanted Flynn were not fans of Tannehill if I recall correctly.

^ I think this. I'd add to that list Matt Ryan. Even though he was never a Miami Dolphin there was certainly plenty of discussion on whether or not he should be pre draft, and then plenty of discussion about it post draft. It still comes up from time to time.

QB is always going to be the dominating discussion on any team, especially those who don't have a franchise guy. The other aspect to it is no matter how ineffectual the QB there will always be those who think he could be the guy. I think John Beck proves that best of all.

Edited to add: Jeff Ireland discussion? I don't remember much of that. :shifty:

I really, really wanted to see Beck get a chance, so much so I didn't like the Henne pick from the get go.
