Stuff a marble up your nose to distract you!!! P.S. then go to a real Doctor to have your ear looked at.
Bleahhh ... went to a doctor for an ear cleaning once. It was a horribly traumatic experience. I'm trying to avoid that.
Mom always said, if you avoid treatment, they will just have to cut it off....is that what you want young man???
Clean your ears once in while, your other parts too. I Q-tip every second day or so and use peroxide once in a while for a deep bubbly clean. You could eat M&Ms out of my ear.
In all seriousness, my grandmother, and my mother, say to use a sliver of raw onion (from the center of the onion), in your ear, with a cotton ball, and let the onion vapors help loosen up the blockage. I have done this and it does help with ear aches. Use a big piece of onion so you can grab it out with tweasers after several hours.
No, just use the cotton ball to plug the ear cavity...put the sliver of onion in first, push it into the cavity, the cottonball simply locks it in place. I would say, 1/2inch long, and 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide...push it in, and then use cottom ball to plug your ear...let it sit their and stew (so to speak) you will feel warmth from the vapors of the onion....then after a few hours - 1/2 day, etc, you can remove it, and either use an ear wash system, but more often then not, a Q-tip will remove the wax, etc. Again, use a big enough piece of onion so it can be removed easier. It does work.
If my ear canal gets clogged, I actually pour hydrogen peroxide straight into it, and let it eat out the gunk for 3-5 minutes ... usually works great. Grosses out the missus, but what can you do.
Every medical professional I have talked to (especially ENT guys) really loathe qtips. Why?? B/c most of the time, it ends up pushing the majority of the wax farther into the ear than cleaning it out. Generally, warm water from your shower head works just fine for keeping things clean. And some wax is healthy anyway. Doc, I would not recommend sticking a piece of onion in your ear, no matter how good it works:P You may end up in a rather embarrassing situation at the local urgent clinic. My advice is to run some alcohol through there to loosten up the gunk, and then take a pipet/no-needle syringe/baby snot grabber (the blue thingy ) and fill it with lukewarm water and flush it out. Pretty much the same as what you would get at the Dr's office, but less painful, as you are the one doing it. Hopefully there's no pain associated with it, or you might be dealing with an infection already- in which case, you should be going to the doctor, no matter how much you hate it. Hope you get it unblocked soon...
heres what you do... stick a 2 inch leech in each ear...let him do his thing for 45 minutes. then pee in a cup and use an eye dropper, dropping drops of pee into your ear. they say its good to pee on certain types of bites. dry yourself off and should be good as new. to make things interesting, eat some asparagus before you pee in the cup.
Wow ... some interesting work there. Ok, I tried peroxide over lunch and, while I got a lot of gunk out, my ear still feels blocked. I'm going to see how I feel once I'm home for the day and maybe repeat the process.
You're doing all this at work Steve? Don't know why, but that's funny to me (Kenny visualizes Steve at work with onion in his ear)
i guess you didn't click on my Debrox link... but the stuff really works... qtips just pack the stuff in deeper, and when i had some issues with hearing because deep down i was gunked up the doctor recommended the debrox and it works, you can feel it eating away at the earwax in there... does this thread make anyone else hungry?
you know whats amazing...the careers those two guys went on to have. David Kelly: Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, and Boston Legal. Steven Bochco: Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, and NYPD Blue.
If your ear feels clogged it may be your Eustachian tube as well. Gunk aside blow up a latex balloon it will help clear up a stuck feeling ear. As for the peroxide that sounds horrible as I have no right ear drum so anything I pour in there just keeps right on trucking. Ear drops - yum yum!
