Nice mock Richard - it's Pouncey, Mallett or Ingram if we stay at 15. I just can't see us staying there, there are going to be opportunities for us to move down

 

Omar Kelly, of all people, had a good point about Pouncy lifting his head up right before every snap and telegraphing it to opposing defenses- I think that he used your footage of Pouncy to demonstrate. I'm still trying to figure out how it's humanly possible that Pouncy or the Gators coaching staff could be that stupid to allow it to continue for so long. Great clip of Marcel Dareus knocking Pouncy a good 10 yards off the ball after timing Pouncy's ******ed head lifting.

I would be ok with Pouncy as the pick and Carimi as well, but I'm still thinking QB and Ponder. What bothers me, besides the obvious issue of Henne's play last year, is what I read about the Dolphins players' sense of relief and profusely thanking the coaching staff upon the benching Henne. What is the untold story here? Why did Parcells turn on Henne, give up on him? Why does Henne make such boneheaded plays? Does he lack overall intelligence, football smarts or both? Does he read defenses and go through his progressions poorly, or sometimes not even bother to do so at all and just pick an initial target and stick to him? I don't know, but something seems to be missing with Henne and I think that perhaps there's a story untold. My gut instinct is to bail on Henne, upgrade and save time.

I'm actually warming up- a bit- to Jake Locker. But the (lack of) accuracy issue is huge. I'm inclined to believe that the notion of coaching up accuracy in a QB is wishful thinking- you've got it or you don't. And he don't. Nonetheless he's a good kid with great size, a strong arm and tremendous athletecism.

I'm fine with Pouncy, but he's not a Nick Mangold or Alex Mack, which would be nice. Carimi- big fan, and I don't buy the Vernon Carey for sure not moving to Guard story. Mark Ingram- no thanks, please resign Ricky and pick up DeAngelo. Bottom line choice- Christian Ponder.

 

I disagree about Carimi, I could easily see him at RT and I wouldn't discount him at LT. True about his time on the ground/balance issues, but the same was said about Alex Mack, who is one hell of a player. Compare him to the more balanced, athletic Max Unger from the same draft class and who do you take now? I still take Mack, easily- he brings the power, especially against the power NTs and he has enough athletecism to get the job done. Point being: ditto for Carimi. Kind of a poor man's Jake Long imo. Look at the job that he did against OSU last year- dominated. Cameron Heyward disappeared, although to be fair about it I don't remember if they went head to head. Carimi was very, very efficient even with hitting the turf far too often. Dominated at the end leading the way for John Clay. I remember JJ Watt dominating big time and Tolzien impressing as well. Clay, too. Still some of my favorites. Carimi dominated against Clayborn as well vs Iowa iirc.

Jake Long had some of the same criticisms, his Brandon Graham was Vernon Gholston. And after 3 years dude is well on his way to the Hall of Fame. Nothing more than my guess of course but I could- easily- see Carimi as one hell of a RT.

Pouncy concerns me in terms of primary function- power at the LOS. He's quick and does have some power, but for the love of God give me a Mack or Mangold- or brother Pouncy from the Steelers- at #15

Interesting point about Carimi's hands, but I didn't see that. I do remember JJ Watt using his hands very effectively, but that's a different story. I look at Carimi as a relatively sure thing, moreso than Pouncy. But again, that damn Center position- Incognito better step up or drafting Pouncy starts to look pretty good, or maybe someone later such as Tim Barnes or Colin Baxter.

Bottom line, as always in my redundant fashion- Christian Ponder, please.

 

Long was considered a #1 overall draft pick possibility and turned out to be so. Carimi is looked at as a #20-32 kind of guy, so there will be more warts and the two are not a direct comparison, although I do see similarities. Both have balance issues and they're both efficient power guys and Carimi, while not the prettiest OT out there, gets the job done

Castonozo- I've heard much but quite frankly I've never seen him play. He might have better feet than Long, but so do Doug Free and Joe Staley and they won't be getting in to the Hall of Fame in this lifetime, although I think that Staley is doing pretty well.

As to Carimi and his feet/balance, I'll go to the Alex Mack well once again. I remember some compilation footage of Mack and his struggles with balance. He looked downright awful at times buit that hasn't kept him out of the Pro Bowl. I remember seeing Carimui hit the ground multiple times and thinking "WTF Gabe, get your a** up and keep it there." But the bottom line is that dude gets it done, efficiently and with power. He's highly decorated, regarded, and was considered the heir apparent to Joe Thomas for a reason- he's damn good.

Ryan Williams at #15- hell to the no. If they get a 2nd rd pick- maybe, but I still wouldn't really prefer it. Resign Ricky and if collective bargaining allows it please, please sign DeAngelo Williams. Ronnie Brown- overrated. I initially mentioned something this morning in my 1st post but about half of it got somehow deleted- apparently RB was PISSED that the team yanked him late in the year about 15 yards from a half mil bonus, still holding a grudge. Nice guy, really good power back, but I'd prefer Williams x 2. Ronnie benefitted from a very weak top of his draft class and has made more money than he really deserved, not a very good #2 overall pick historically. Aaron Rodgers would have been sweet there, a true apparent to Marino, all that Jeff Tedford bs aside.

 

Ryan Williams has been very quiet this offseason for a reason, and I think that's because a lot of teams like him and are trying to keep him flying under the radar, just like Greg Little and Marvin Austin. All 3 of these guys will be drafted much higher than people were expecting.

 

Costonzo aside, having no real opinion of him, I simply disagree regarding Carimi, much as I did a few years back when some claimed that Jake Long was a RT, not LT material. I don't remember where you stood on that one. Regardless, I think that it's fair to say that we both like Carimi, and you see him as a NFL G, I see him most likely as a RT, possibly a LT. So be it.

Ryan Williams- no interest in the 1st rd, trade down or not. Nice player, but not a value pick a la Rashard Mendenhall a few years back. I would throw up if we took him over Ponder, and I would even take Mallett over Williams and hope for the best, vomiting just a little out of the corner of my mouth. Probably a little coming out of my nose, too. Wrong pipes, trying to hold it in, you know.

 

Austin is now being routinely put into first round mocks. Little is in a Mike Williams situation - massive talent but questions, the biggest of all is when some team will pull the trigger.

Williams has had some concerns such as injuries, which may be pushing him down.

 

pull the trigger? Someone will trade up for Little if no one take him in the 2nd round. Williams going in the late first could be considered "pushing down" in some eyes.

 

Pouncey certainly wouldnt be the worst pick in the world
