We just had our draft. I was a bit hung over, on 4 hours sleep and I found out about the draft about five minutes before it started. So looking back at it now there are certainly some picks I would have made differently. But all in all I'm not too disappointed.

It's a 10 team league, not PPR. We have a 20 round draft so not much is available in FA during the year. I had the #2 pick in a ladder style draft. The starting positions are QB, RB, WR, TE, K, Def, WR/RB, WR/RB.

    QB: Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub.
RB: Adrian Peterson, Kevin Smith, Cadillac Williams, Fred Taylor, Ahmad Bradshaw, Chris Wells, Donald Brown.
WR: Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Steve Breaston, Domenik Hixon, Chris Chambers.
    TE: Owen Daniels, John Carlson.
    K: Kris Brown, Dan Carpenter.
    Def: Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins.

Obviously my starting WRs are strong although after the first two there is a drop off. I could have taken Ginn in the 11th, but I decided to wait for the 12th and I lost him. Also both Hartline and Bess are available and I think I might grab one of those in place of Hixon.

And I think I'm good at RB especially if one of the rookies excels. And if Caddy and Taylor stay healthy I expect at least one if not both to start.

I may be weak at QB. But I expect Ryan to have a good season and hopefully Schaub will finally stay healthy. Last year Schaub was in the top 5 in YPG. He only played in 11 games last year and I think that if he plays close to 16 games he can end up with 25+ TDs. I also think that a Schaub-Andre Johnson pairing could be lethal. I am pissed at myself though b/c I could have taken McNabb in the 5th but I just missed it.

I think the TEs are fine if not spectacular.

I am happy with my defenses. Tennessee is consistently good and I am hopeful that Miami will be a top 5 D this year with many sacks and a few more INTs.

The Ks are just whomever was available with my last two picks. But neither one misses much so I should avoid any negative scores and Brown could be part of a fairly high scoring offense.

So what do you guys think?

awesome depth at rb, and great wrs. but if youre planning on starting 3 rbs, then i would have just taken one elite WR, and then grabbed a QB with the next pick. Youre gonna end up benching some great talent and wishing you had a better QB. I'd consider trading Andre and Matt Ryan for a top 5 QB.

The QBs went quick in this draft. I think the top 4 were gone by second pick. I'm positive the top 5 were gone by my third pick.

And I'm not sure if I'll start 3 running backs. Looking at ESPN's past seven drafts and a break down of the average fantasy production of each position by rank I got the following numbers.

    • rank:1-5 6-10 11-15 16-20
    • RBs: 242 226 188 172
    • WRs: 209 179 158 144
    • QBs: 288 246 216 184

Then I looked at 2 options with my current roster using the ESPN ranks for this season.

QB: Matt Ryan #8, Matt Schaub #9.
RB: Adrian Peterson #1, Kevin Smith #15. None of my other backs are listed in the top 20 although Derrick Ward is close at #23 since Cadillac Williams has replaced him as the starter and b/c I consider him a bit better I'll list Caddy as a 16-20 rank.
WR: Andre Johnson #2, Calvin Johnson #3. I don't have a third WR ranked in the top 20.

    Option 1
    6-10 QB, 1-5 RB, 1-5 WR, 11-15 RB, 16-20 RB would net a score of 1057.

    Option 2
    6-10 QB, 1-5 RB, 1-5 WR, 1-5 WR, 11-15 RB would net a score of 1094.

I expect that unless a lower ranked RB starts tearing it up that I will usually start both Johnsons at WR.

If I could trade for a QB ranked in the top 5 and it cost me a 1-5 WR and 6-10 QB then I could use option 3.

    Option 3
    1-5 QB, 1-5 RB, 1-5 WR, 11-15 RB, 16-20 RB would net a score of 1099.

So if I could pull it off your suggested trade would be a good one. I don't expect I'll be able to though just b/c of how early the top 5 QBs were drafted. In the end though it should come down to whether I made selections of players who out perform their pre-season rankings.

excellent breakdown. try to find the guy who has a top 5 qb with the weakest team. maybe even throw in another RB to sweeten the deal. if hes desperate for RB/WR, he may be willing to swap Qbs for the upgrade.

I think you'll be fine. Wells and Bradshaw will probably alternate at #3.

Like you said, I'd def work on finding another upgrade at WR.

Here's hoping the Matt Shaub hype train doesn't derail.

Its pretty good but I hate your qbs. Start your 4 stud skillposition players and use breaston/wells as your primary reserves. Otherwise its straight. I'd prob drop the second kicker for either another d or skill player. Fred taylor is more done then burnt toast

Shaub and Ryan both have a very realistic shot of making it into the top 5, esp Shaub.

Even with Shaub twisting his ankle a little ton, you could see the potential for big games. And that was against a top 5 D.

Youre kidding right? We talking about the same Matt Schaub? He and the OL are the only things holding the Texans back. He never stays healthy and makes enough bad decisions to make you pull your hair out.

Ryan plays a much tougher schedule this year. No more AFC West, this year he gets the AFC east. Why is that important? He already plays in a very difficult division and half of his TD passes last year came against the AFC West. So in 4 games outside the division he threw 8 TD's and he no longer plays those weak opponents who combined to be the worst division in the NFL last year.

not sure about Top 5 but definately Top 6-10 if he stays healthy.
Cant see him beating out Brady/Brees/Manning/Rodgers/Rivers but it could happen

    Brees and Manning, no.

But Brady could get beat up again behind that ****ty OL. Rodgers and Rivers I'm just not completely sold on being top 5 yet.

I don't think Schaub can be top 5 but he has produced when healthy. He was 4th in the league last year in yards per game and would have 20+ TDs if he ever played a 16 game season. With him it's all about health. If he stays healthy then he's an easy 6-10 rank QB.

Ryan is helped by having such a good running game combined with being very good at play action. I don't see him as top 5 either but I do expect consistent good scoring.
