I was hoping for better but this is what I ended up with:
QB- Garrard, Schaub, Young
RB- Portis, Larry Johnson, Graham, Lendale White, Jacobs
WR- Chad Johnson, Greg Jennings, Marshall, Santana Moss, Walker
TE- Lee
I couldn't give a damn at QB as between the three AFC South QBs I'll pick and choose my match ups fairly well. I didn't spend much on them anyway.
At TE I'm fairly weak.
At WR I feel decent now, great when Marshall comes back (spent a garbage pick to get him).
As for RB I'm hoping to deal off Larry with the depth.
Opinions guys?
-
-
Not a really good looking team. TE is definitely weak as is QB. RB will hinge on LJ not losing carries to Smith, Graham staying as the starter, White not losing carries to Chris Johnson. Honestly, I'd try to get a deal for either White or Jacobs for a backup QB or TE. Garrard and Young don't exactly put up fantasy stats.
-
Please show me your team so I can get a better idea of what I should have had. I personally feel that my RBs are five deep and are among the best runners available, easily BVA at their selection. But I guess not...Last edited: Aug 10, 2008 -
A 10 man league? I thought that was a 12 man league because then that'd roster would be okay. In a 10 man league, you definitely have to do better. Well, White's going to split carries with their rookie and Henry and Jacobs could lose carries to guys like Ward and Bradshaw who have both looked impressive.
Tell me which position you drafted in, and I'll show you what I got from there.Last edited: Aug 10, 2008 -

White was effective regardless of splitting carries with Chris Brown and Henry last year. Jacobs was dynamite once he was healthy last year. Still not sure where the big mistake was. I'm hoping you can help. If anything it was Larry Johnson.Last edited: Aug 10, 2008 -
You're fine at QB, solid at RB and WR. TE could definitely use a bump, but Lee is hardly going to kill you.
-
how many RBs can you start? just 2 or do you have a flex where you could play a third? i think you took tooooo many RBs real early
-
i think you should start schaub bro...although flopping with garrard based on their opponent isnt a bad idea. thats a method i like to do with defenses especially. in our phins draft, i was lucky enough to get both the jags and the bucs. but you def. should trade for a better TE...or perhaps wait for a breakout player at the position.
i too picked javon walker, just seemed like too much talent late in the draft to pass up on...despite the off-field issues. -
Even though they may be good players, in terms of your roster, they aren't the right ones to draft because it creates holes and forces you to select lesser talent instead of having a better overall team. It's essentially a domino effect. By drafting extra RB's which will be sitting on your bench, you cause yourself to miss out on WR, QB, and TE that you could start. That's what I'm concerned with. RB's are important but it's also important to not overload yourself with them at the expense of other positions. It's one thing to get depth but a whole other beast getting redundancy and relying on a trade to get back equal value.
With Johnson, you might've considered an elite WR or Lewis but it's not the biggest mistake to draft him. In round 3, I would've selected Plax or TJ (which you would then likely draft Welker or Holt next). And if you were intent on selecting Jacobs, then Graham becomes redundant and would've been best used on someone like Roy Williams to shore up WR depth. This is presuming your league starts 3 WR's.
One mistake I found was drafting Garrard over Cutler and/or skipping over the last of the fantasy-worthy #1 TE's. Even though Cutler will be missing Marshall for some time, he does have former 1000-yrd veterans Jackson and Stokley as well as a budding TE at his helm. Garrard will be a caretaker in a running-oriented offense and will not put up reliable fantasy stats. -
So this was one draft I had in a 10 man league and also picking 9th. I will note though that this draft was done in middle-late July.
QB - Matt Hasselbeck (rd 9, pick 89), Jay Cutler (rd 10, pick 92)
RB - Marshawn Lynch (rd 1, pick 9), Clinton Portis (rd 2, pick 12), Ronnie Brown (rd 6, pick 52), Selvin Young (rd 8, pick 72)
WR - Larry Fitzgerald (rd 3, pick 29), Marques Colston (rd 4, pick 32), Dwayne Bowe (rd 5, pick 49), Kevin Curtis (rd 11, pick 109)
TE - Tony Gonzalez (rd 7, pick 69), Jeremy Shockey (rd 12, pick 112)
K - Rob Bironas (rd 14, pick 132)
DEF - Cowboys (rd 13, pick 129) -
I like the RB's. i think Johnson is gonna have a big comeback year. Hes healthy and no one expects the chiefs to do anything. He lasted til 12 cause the chiefs have no proven qb. i have a hardtime believing you will get equal value for him as well.
-
I do too provided Kolby Smith doesn't steal some carries.
-
Thanks for the help guys. I understand where my mistake was. I should have gone for one more WR probably instead of Jacobs as that was a sweet spot to get one.
The format was QB, RB, RB, flex RB/WR, WR, WR. -
I'm pulling off a new one so far:
QB-
RB- Addai, Edge, White, Young
WR- Holt, Fitzgerald, Wayne
TE- -
Great start. Grab a QB soon though, and don't neglect TE for too long.
-
Add Bowe and Scheffler to that mix. I hope to grab a QB now and possibly another TE maybe Shockey.
Update: I added Garrard well within value range. I am considering drafting yet another WR in Engram or going for a TE again. I went with Shockey since Engram was taken.
I'm now in the 12th round where I've added Jason Campbell.
QB- Garrard, Campbell, Garcia, Young
RB- Addai, Edge, Young, White
WR- Fitzgerald, Holt, Wayne, Bowe, Walker
TE- Scheffler, ShockeyLast edited: Aug 11, 2008 -
I would start Shockey over Scheffler unless injury negates that. Also, why three QBs?
-
Shockey will be a good sleeper pick as would Alge Crumpler. Bowe makes your WR corps absolutely dangerous from top to bottom.
I sure hope there was no better QB than Garrard around because unless your league penalizes extremely heavily on interceptions and/or doesn't award many points for yards, there should be no reason he should be your #1 QB or even a #2.
But a good draft overall. You can look at Engram but if you can get a good QB who plays in a passing offense, take him.
EDIT: Looks like you added Garcia, Campbell, and Young. Very risky and I just don't really think they're good fantasy QB's.Last edited: Aug 11, 2008 -
I took the QBs mainly to just experiment with them and see who catches fire.
My league starts only one QB and I figured that I'd rather take the QBs based on the match-ups that weekend. Definitely Garrard was the best available. -
Well what I figured out was that I'd rather have Young and hope he takes off than the Ted Ginn Jr.'s of the world etc etc...
I plan on dropping one of them. -
Who else was there at QB? If Garrard was the best available, then either you drafted a QB too late or people took all the good ones.
Most likely, you'll also be scouring the waiver wire for a QB during the course of the season so keep tabs on all the FA's. If a guy like Jon Kitna is available and starts to turn it on (again), you need to grab him otherwise the QB spot will be a noose for the team if all of them have unfavorable matchups. -
I ran a review of it. Weeks 4, 5, 11, and 16 are the weeks where all four don't have an incredibly good match up. A couple have decent match ups in those weeks.
What happened was that QBs went very early non-stop. It was a mock draft in fact so it was just for practice primarily.
I'm still trying to figure out who can I drop to get a better QB. Would it be Scheffler for say Bulger or Schaub? -
That might be it because you can usually end up with a decent QB for a starter and then rely on Garrard as a backup. I wouldn't really move Scheffler but another QB maybe Garcia or Campbell for Bulger/Schaub. Bulger is interesting because if he can stay healthy and S-Jax plays, he's a low-end #1.
-
So I assume you don't believe in QBBC?
Oh as far as reviews I meant to say a mock. -
Well, in a way, I use a modified QBBC strategy and even then, I only use it when I'm picking in the top 4-5. I don't go after top name QB's like Brady or Manning but I make sure I can reasonably tab a mid-level guy like Hasselbeck without the cost to depth at RB/WR to pair with another likely low-tier QB. I set a break point where the cost of waiting too long to select QB outweighs the boost from selecting starters in other positions.
Normally this year I find myself selecting guys like Hasselbeck, McNabb, Cutler, sometimes Derek Anderson too, for my first QB and then guys like Eli, Rodgers, Bulger, Schaub, Kitna. These are guys that can be had after round 5 provided other people have drafted wisely. The key to picking QB by committee is to select QB's where they have receiving weapons, a good history, and/or a system that promotes passing even though they haven't excelled like the top QB's out there. Guys like Campbell, Young, and Garrard are young QB's not really known for being prolific passers and are in systems that run heavily with little WR help. Those are QB's that raise red flags to me and I avoid unless necessary. I would keep a close eye on the Cardinals QB situation because of their system and weapons. -
You'll laugh Regan. I just picked up Derek Anderson straight out of free agency. He was cut due to that one concussion.
-
 Reason #1 why I love knee-jerk reactions.
-
Wow. Who'd the guy replace him with? Great pickup. :hi5:
For my part, in the one league I have Anderson in, I grabbed Kurt Warner from free agency. I have Aaron Rodgers on the bench, but I figure this way I can land a trade for SOMEONE. -
I think with Edwards or something.
Kurt Warner is my #1 QB in one of my leagues (not really my #1 per say, I have better QBs as far as rankings go, but for now I'm starting Warner who I got in the 13th round). -
Trent Edwards?! Wow. Talk about an idiot.
-
Or a Bills fan. Though not really any difference. :tongue2:
-
Indeed, no repetition necessary there.
-
The strangest things happen like that every year.
A couple of years ago when he was still the full-time starter in Minnesota, Chester Taylor was cut randomly in the middle of the year. I stashed him for one week until his injuries recovered. Then I subsequently dealt from depth and sent my 3rd RB (forgot who at the time) to upgrade drastically at WR.
