We talk a lot about Jake Long, Jon Martin, and draft prospects... but what do you think of Nate Garner playing RT... or LT?

I like Garner. As a starter, no but as a fill in he is not half bad but not at 3 million a year. Have no idea where the wrtier got that figure from for an OT that has not really started outside of need due to injuries. I believe 2009 the entire Oline looked good due to the fact the league still had not figured out the Wildcat.

How the hell does one play better in 2009 when your 27 years old ??
How do you not evolve as a player..
How do you play good one year, and suck the following...
I'll tell ya, offseason training, if you ain't doing it with a scientific approach, your a bum..
Not saying that applies to him, just in general. -
IMO, Garner isn't good enough straight off the bench to be a starter. He is servicable when he starts the game, however he looks terrible if Miami needs him for the first time in the 3rd quarter. I am hoping Samuda or Yeatman makes him not needed.djphinfan likes this. -
"I'm a better RG than RT b/c I've played there more"
I thought he did fine at RT, keep in mind per PFF he outplayed Martin at RT -
Yeatman and Adams makes him expendable.
-
Certainly would not want him at LT. Recall in 2011 when Jake Long got hurt in the Philly game? It was Garner that came in and got abused all day to the point Miami pulled Matt Moore and put in J.P. Losman (that's not a typo) into the game. I think he's an okay depth guy, but I wouldn't want him starting.
-
Uhm, no, Cole was on all pro season that year, context is fun! -
-
depth only, let's raise our expectations.
-
Bess fumbled. Moore threw a bad interception.
You can't blame a football game on one guy to prove a point. Way too small of a sample size.
Someone will give him 3 million a year to start. Garner is healthy now. -

Slow offseason. You could insert the name Garner with any player in the NFL and switch positions out and it would be equally true and relevant.
-
He's clearly NOT a left tackle. He's average at best, as a RT. Inside at RG in 2009 was his best play, and he's stated so himself. -
i thought we over paid him last year @ $1.4m roughly , his good to have on roster thats about it for me
his better suited to guard imo , i keep harping on about it but him and jerry should of swapped positions imo when
martin went to lt
i think jerry is a better tackle and guard than garner and can take his role as 6th olineman -

Garner is a bit inconsistent at times but he also surprises. Injuries did hurt him. But, imo, he was a better RT than Long was an LT when in there.
He has a lot of versatility and for a reserve OL I think we should try to keep him. Better than the other journeymen in reserve. And, he could be a stop gap at RT.
It will be interesting to see if Jonathan Martin has professionalism this off-season and kicks butt in the OTP. This kid needs to have been busting his butt the last three weeks and continue to do so the next 10 in the weight room and nutritionally. He needs to be shooting for a majorly improved body. He has the skillset and smarts if he gets rid of his softness he could be very good.
For so many of these players it comes down to dedication and commitment. When you make millions and you have the best trainers in the game - it has to happen.
I really wonder how focused the Dolphin leadership is on off-season training? To me, this is as important as the Xs and Os for some of these players.djphinfan likes this. -
It's not Will Yeatman or Jeff Adams that would make a Nate Garner expendable. It's Nate Garner's marginal talent which doesn't totally fit the system that makes him expendable. I'm pretty sure the Dolphins will look in another direction.

He did do a decent job in '09 at G, didn't he actually get some snaps at C as well that year, I think that is why we all raved about his versatility, et al .... with the current regime, I just not sure he fits the mold of what we are looking for at G ... Jerry aside, I think we want more athletic Gs ...
-
The guy had a few good weeks at guard a couple of years ago, gave us all some hope he could be a find and then got exposed as a stiff when he had to play more. -
Don't see Garner back. I do think time is put into Adams and Yeatman. Their size and measures are more along what I think the coaching staff wants.
