depends what you want. i have a very good desktop from dell and i just wanted something to take to school.

i got a hp/compaq CQ60 laptop for 299. its windows 7 64 bit and 15.6 screen. its not super fast, but i dont really keep a lot of files on it and really only use it for browsing and making small documents. i would highly recommend it, esp if you are just wanting a laptop as a second PC. its ideal imo, and priced at the same as the little minis, most of them not having windows 7 and having the 1.66 atom chip

if you want your laptop to be your primary PC and be powerful, 400 is not going to get you a whole lot from what i have seen

I had to dish out $529 to get what I wanted. I would find a good price but it would have an Intel integrated graphics card or lacking enough memory. I finally bit the bullet and find this one at Office Depot on sale. I don't regret spending the extra cash to have desktop performance in my backpack. I was awesome to be able to play Borderlands on my lappy even though I had to run it on low detail.
