Me and my wife just recently bought our first home. She wants to have this house warming deal like next week. So what that means is that I have to have the whole ****ing interior painted by then. The only type of painting ive done is finger painting in grade school. I took the whole week off at work. The house is 2010 sq ft. Really high celings and weird angles everywhere. Is this going to overwhelm me?
I cant hire the little guys cause I have no dinero. :pity:

If you are keeping the same color it will be easier, you can get away with not painting as high, unless of course the current color is bad. If you change colors, you have to paint the whole thing od course. As for the angles not a big deal, you can spend a few extra dollars and pick up the right equipment and its not that hard.

buy some rollers... some paint ... a few brushes ... grab a tarp and get to work.
It won't get done while you're sitting here asking questions. :yes:Phinperor, calphin, BigDogsHunt and 1 other person like this. -
2000 sq/ft???...if you get the furniture away from the walls, lay the tarp under the area you are working (use ladder for tall areas), and most importantly, TAPE off the areas (like finger painting inside the lines) to avoid hitting trim top and bottom, around windows, etc....you will fly throught this.
Recommend open widows for ventalation...plus, last but not least, talk to your HOME DEPOT or LOWES paint folks they will give you "tips and pointers" with rollers and brushes...start with the brushes closest to the trim, nice and thick....then use the roller in "W" style and working back and forth the walls will be done in no time.
You can do it....easily over the full week...heck really 2000 sq ft with room to move in each room, you will be done in 2-3 days tops. (depending on how often you stop for chip and beer breaks)The Dude likes this. -

remember the paint you choose always ends up lighter than it looks in the can.
Also PREPARATION is very important and is majority of the work. Make sure you use painters tape and remove all the electrical covers and fixtures before.opfinistic and The Dude like this. -

we just recently painted a few rooms in our house, the best tip I have is to buy that sticky clear floor stuff they put in new houses when you walk through to keep you off the carpet. Way better than a tarp because it won't move after you stick it down. Then you just unstick it and throw it away when you are done.

first things needed are drop cloths
plastic for covering furniture
blue 3-m painters tape dosen't leave tape residue also helps getting straight lines
masking machine makes the job much easier
good brushes (purdy)
lamb skin roller pads ( less splatter) 9"
roller grid (never use roller trays as they only make a mess)
three basic finishes flat, semi gloss or egg shell I prefer egg shell, less sheen than semi, but can be washed much easier than flat.
kilz shake cans for any stains (water, ink etc...
basic run down always cut corners and doors first ( meaning do the brush work first. and roll after... paint will not flash
do trim work last.

never use that light weight plastic on floors, as it tends to stick to your feet and tear if you happen to step in paint. use the heavier stuff and tape it down, you can cut 3" canoe shapes and tape down the centers (follow me?)... does the same thing just costs way less.

is the room going all one color? or is the ceiling gonna be white with another color on the walls?

do you have an extension ladder? if not
I have a brush holder that screws on to a roller pole so I can reach high places where I have trouble getting a ladder... you can tape a brush on a roller pole at an angle like 2:00 and just dip the brush carefully and you should be able to reach places easily.
this method is tricky getting stright lines but if you take your time you can do itThe Dude likes this. -
