Now, we HAVE to draft a QB. You do not make a QB change like this mid season unless for whatever reason, you are convinced the young QB is not the guy. Chad Pennington is one injury away from having his career ended. Add to that, even if he is able to finish the season injury free, is he the starter next year? I would have to say no. If they were sold on Thigpen, then he would be starting, not Pennington. So, instead of using our first draft pick to get the fastest WR available to stretch the field, (Why did we cut Ted Ginn?) we will need to use it on a QB. I do not want to bring in another QB retread.
So, now we have Chad Pennington starting. He is known for all the dink and dunk passes that everyone was so critical of Henne for. BUT, Henne can throw deep. Let's be honest...Henne has been handcuffed the entire time. He is not being told to throw deep, and Henning does not allow him to call audibles.
I am a Henne supporter, but with this move, I don't see how we can put him back as the starter. This has shattered his confidence, and I doubt he recovers. Not with this team anyway. He will have to be traded (Buffalo needs a QB) and here we go again with our QB woes. Add Henne to the long list of failed QB projects since Marino retired.
So, how can we move forward? Henning has to go. Plain and simple. His playcalling has gone from weak wince to head scratcher to face palm to putting your head through a wall. The Dolphins have made several moves today. Let Henning's firing come today please. Let David Lee finish the season as interim OC. He can run Henning's system because he and the players know it. There's nothing wrong with the system. Its the play calling. Maybe someone calling the plays who wasn't old when dirt was young would make a difference.
So, maybe Miami squeaks into the playoffs, and gets their butts kicked. How is this productive? We are heading down the road to another 1-15 season unless Henning goes, and the Phins bring in another QB. Pennington is NOT the answer. He's a band aid on a broken bone, and the broken bone is Henning.

I don't understand the move either. The only thing I can think of is perhaps the locker room is losing confidence in Henne. Penne is definitely a more respected guy among the players, and I believe he can get more out of them. But long term, I think Sparano & co just screwed the pooch. If we were going to sacrifice long term goals for a quick boost, why not sign Randy Moss. Sure he's old and a potential head ache, but he's a bigger upgrade than Pennington/Henne or Al Harris/Jason Allen. I'm going to scratch a bald spot into my head if someone doesn't explain this to me...

I have already pulled my hair out. It just doesn't make sense for the team. It makes sense for the coaches because maybe Pennington can pull out some wins and save their asses but I hope Stephen Ross sees through that and still fires them all minus Nolan.texanphinatic likes this. -

Damn right this was a wise move, Henne has been playing like crap lately. I too like Henne but the bottom line is winning games. Listen when was the last time Henne threw a Td ?
Henne is a grown man who plays football I am sure his little feelings getting hurt will not shatter his confidence, if his recent play hasn't shattered his confidence nothing will. Henne can still be the future but he needs to take a step back and evaluate the game.
Good luck to Penny.Speedy likes this. -

My sleeper mid-round pick for the Phins in 2011:
QB, Colin Kaepernick, Nevada...You Tube him if you haven't seen or heard of him....good size and speed. -
