Coming off their Week 6 bye, the Dolphins are replacing their kicker.

According to Jordan Schultz of The Schultz Report, Miami is re-signing Zane Gonzalez for the role. ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes the team is releasing Riley Patterson.

Gonzalez, 31, was previously with the Dolphins during the offseason program and training camp. He was placed on injured reserve in August and released with an injury settlement on Aug. 19.

In nine games for Atlanta last season, Gonzalez hit 19-of-22 field goals and 17-of-18 extra points.

Patterson missed an extra point in the Week 5 loss to the Bengals. He had also missed two field goals earlier in the season.

Miami will be on the road to face the Jets in Week 7.

The Dolphins worked out five kickers after cutting Riley Patterson, who missed an extra point in Week 5 after missing two field goals earlier in the season.

They signed Zane Gonzalez.

Among those trying out, though, was former Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, according to the NFL’s personnel notice.

Since serving a 10-game suspension for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy over sexual misconduct allegations, Tucker has tried out for the Saints, Colts, Jets, and now Dolphins over the past two seasons.

Multiple women accused Tucker of misconduct during massage-therapy sessions. He denied the allegations, and he was never charged criminally or sued civilly.

He has not signed anywhere since, last playing in the league in 2024.

He is a five-time first-team All-Pro, who has made 89.1 percent of his field-goal tries. Tucker, though, converted a career-low 73.3 percent of his field-goal attempts in his last season. He also missed two extra points.

Michael Badgley, Will Ferrin and Joshua Karty were the other kickers who tried out for the Dolphins on Tuesday.

Place kicker is the LONLIEST position on the team. You’re either the hero or the heel. A great quarterback can have a terrible game and everyone still has faith in him. Let a kicker have a bad game, and by a bad game I mean a simple missed 50+ yard field goal and/or a missed extra point and suddenly he sucks to the highest level of sucktivity.

I find it amazing how and offense can struggle to get the ball into the endzone, forcing kickers to have to attempt these LONG field goals and if he misses, HE is the scapegoat that’s cut and not key offensive players that put him in that ridiculous position in the first place.

From listening to Haffley, the team wanted to boom kickoffs into the EZ and try for the touchback, but Patterson was physically incapable of getting the job done, leading to various long returns by the opponent.
