How does Sparano hire anyone worth a crap being a lame duck coach ? This is what will get Ross an empty stadium.
We thought Huizenga didn't have a clue, now Ross looks like an even bigger dolt. This franchise is headed into its deepest & darkest hole ever.

The only way keeping Sparano works is if Ross gives him at least a one year extension. If he is heading in as a lame duck we are ****ed. It will be like Wannstedt's last year. We were forced to hire Chris Foerester and we all know how THAT turned out in the end.schmolioot and DolfanJake like this.

A coach working on the last year of his contract with no extension.
There were 4 this year. Lovie smith made the playoffs. Wade Phillips, Marvin Lewis and John Fox were abject disasters. Which category would you bet on Tony being in next year? -
Not really. Having the extension means the owner is on the hook for another years salary. Makes you less likely to be fired mid-season.

As for a OC, Chris Palmer comes to mind.

Also Wade Phillips signed an extension to his contract.
Josh McDaniels had years on his contract and he was fired. -

McDaniels was fired because he was a complete and total failure who got the organization fined and embareessed by "little spygate". And I dont think Wade was extended, but I could be wrong -
Yes, and that is proven that coaches can be fired at anytime. The whole lame dunk thing does not go well with coaches. There is little difference between coaches with 3 years remaining and coaches with 1 year remaining. If they do a poor job then they are fired. If they do a good job then they keep their job (unless they work for the Raiders).

Padre I am not looking for names of OC's as much as what I am saying I guess is, I don't see anyone of quality coming here for a lame duck. Sparano is going to have a very hard time finding someone. It could take weeks, which is horrible in respect to an NFL job. Those jobs should be coveted, not disdained by those in the industry. When you settle for a lesser quality OC you set yourself up for a real disaster the next year.

That doesn't make sense. If he can turn it around then there is a contract extension. The whole "lame duck" thing is pretty lame and not realistic.
There are many ways to set up for real disasters and two of them could be firing Sparano for a flashy Cowher or Gruden. -
God I hope you are right. Ross can't keep Sparano, it would be a disaster. Financially Ross will be looking at no sellouts next year, and with the Heat taking all that money their way (corporate money is bleeding to them in chunks already) he will have an empty stadium, empty skyboxes and every reason to only blame himself.
I certainly hope none of the posters here start b*tching about "atmosphere" and "attendance" next year because the fans will have every reason to turn their backs on the fanchise for letting them down. -

If a good DC can work with Sparano and take the last place defense and move them to 15th, then why couldn't he get similar results with a good OC?

If Ross keeps him, he almost has to extend him. That would make Ross look like a huge fool. Like it or not, your "optimism" is in the VAST minority. The public I believe will vote with their $$$ and the Dolphins will become the 2nd team in Miami very soon. They have already lost at least once in the TV ratings (we discussed that last week). Ross is not the owner the Dolphins to lose possible revenue. Keeping Sparano virtually GUARANTEES that he will lose season ticket holders, as he is already losing Skybox holders (I read somewhere that they lost over 20 so far since the Heat Big 3 came to town). That loss of Skybox holders will become an avalanche if the status quo is in place. Those big money people are associated with winners, and will gravitate to where the winning is taking place. That money from Skyboxes is what keeps the Dolphins operations ledger in the black. Ross will have a HUGE job to lure that money back, and will have to get the Dolphins winning big to turn it around. It will be an even bigger problem if the Heat do go on to the Finals and even worse if they win.

Because he has yet to show me that he has a clue at all on offense. If he did, he would have made better decisions on his OLine, his voice would have been heard louder when Odrick was drafted instead of someone to give his offense a real chance. Do you need more ?
So if you were a good OC why in the world would you come to Miami ? What is there to work with ? -
To make a name for myself if I am a lesser known offensive coordinator or to get back into head coaching. Being one and done doesn't matter if the OC wants to get back into head coaching.

I am not optimistic, I am realistic. Hell this team is 10-6 if a defensive player catches an interception right in their hands. When I look at this team I do not see a team that is falling apart and will just lose. I see a team that is a few steps away from playoffs.
If the owner makes the change for the reason you suggest then Miami is in a world of hurt. We will be the new Redskins. I bet they have plenty of people in their seats ready to be disappointed every year after an amazingly splashy offseason. -
I disagree. Most guys will avoid it because its not just themselves they have to worry about, its their families. You want to risk moving yourself, and your wife & your children to a new city for a job that could last all of one year ? You would just be that selfish and completely disregard the feelings & wishes of your family ? To me, it wouldn't be worth the risk. It might be to some guys of lesser ability, but if I am someone of good stature in the business I wouldn't join Sparano. That means we could be, not necessarily, but unless we get lucky we are settling for someone who isn't that good. How is that person going to make the difference we need ?

If you saw their games this year, believe it or not there were a number of empty seats except in the NY & Dallas games. I have NFL Sunday Ticket so I usually see a portion of every game.
But yes we very well are headed in that direction, with or without Sparano. I think it starts with ownership. I am losing faith in Ross day-by-day. -
I wasn't saying YOURSELF, but put yourself in the position of a REAL OC. We have been turned down before. Henning I don't believe was Parcells 1st choice.

If you give Pete Carmichael (Saints) the title of OC/Asst. Head Coach (a modest promotion), that might work. I believe his name was originally on our radar.
But as you might expect, you have to wait for teams to get knocked out of the playoffs before contacting them. This could take a while. -
Then why would you use the word, "you?" I am putting myself in a position of a REAL OC and I would do it in a second. This is a limited job pool. Unless there is a much better choice, which chances are there won't be, why wouldn't I?
People have moved their families for much less. -
Then you and I just see life differently. My family, and their wants & desires come before anything for myself. I weigh what they want very heavily in making any decisions that directly affect them. If you don't, then we have a vast difference about being what a family man means.
