Not calling the timeout was the right call. Not going for it on 4th down was the wrong decision.

Kickers are 1/8 in the history of that stadium at 50 yard field goals on that end. I'd say our chances of getting two yards was better than making that kick. Idiotic.

Why not go for it there? Why not take a timeout on 4th down? Uh.

Also notice, THill is more or less glued to the pocket now, to me a read option in that situation would have been crucial

Only 1 FG has ever been made from 50+ yards in Heinz in that direction. Do they think we have 2003 Vinatieri kicking??? Even he probably would have missed.

you have TWO timeouts...RUN it and try to get the first down, call timeout, and you have room to play with to get a closer FG or try for a TD. Dumb call, and then they had a great return...lucky there was no time left for Pitt to get close.

That was a horrible call to kick it in those conditions. Too many things could have went wrong there. Why not go for it on 4th down?

On the plus side I never thought we would have a lead in this game.

Other thing that strikes me is this what "home field advantage" looks like

Snowy, and a end of the field that is death to try FG's over 50 yds

Sunlife on the other hand is a neutral field and very easy to play on

I have lost all confidence in sherman. Doesn't stick with whats working. Can't make adjustments. I think he scripts the first 30 plays or so, after that good luck.

I don't mind Philbin not using timeouts when Pitt had the ball but he should have went for it instead of attempting that long field goal.

All in all a solid first half. Defense playing very well. Got to keep it up.

The entire series was stupid. Way to waste a great play by Wilson and excellent field position. Matthews should have gotten the first, but we still should've went for it. Sturgis is only a 76% kicker in good weather or indoors. Dumb all the way around.

That last series of events within those last 2 minutes of the half is all the evidence Ross needs to fire Philbin.
