Not on yet, but I saw an extended preview for a show coming to NBC this fall called Timeless that I'm going to check out. Kind of looks like Sliders meets Time Cop. Right now, its the only new show coming that I have any interest in.

I thought the first couple of Vice Principles episodes were pretty good, but Danny McBride seems to be doing all the heavy lifting as usual .... East Bound and Down got a bit stale for me after the 2nd season, but I thought that was pretty good at the beginning too ... hopefully VPs keeps a little better/longer

Stranger Things on Netflix is awesome.

If you are in your 40's, you should be able to relate to this show as it is set in the early 80's and totally embraces the movies from that era. Its hard to describe but its kinda like ET meets Poltergeist and just a love of the 80's refracted through a modern layered storytelling prism.

The title screen and music are literally perfect.

It started off slowly but progressively got better and better. Thought it was like a retro Super 8 meets E.T. and Silent Hill.

Never saw Super 8 or Silent Hill (though I played the game). But now that you say ET, I'd change what I said originally and swap Goonies for ET.

Now that you've changed your post and agree on ET, I take backsies my previous post about agreeing on Goonies.

I've watched the first 3 episodes of Stranger Things, I agree, a person in their 40s should really relate to this show. Its really well done. They did a great job casting the kids, usually kids ruin a show or movie, its really hard to get great performances out of kids but this show does. Reminds me of Goonies, Stand by Me, Poltergeist, etc.

I'm not in my 40's but I loved Stranger Things. It's my favorite show of 2016, easily. Excited to see where they go in season 2. The last episode was great, especially the DnD scene to set up season 2.

I didn't know there was going to be a season 2 of Narcos. I thought they concluded the story with the first one. Perhaps they will continue with other traffickers?

Almost finished with "The Night Of." It's an HBO Drama centered around an accused murderer. Really reminds me of The Wire, in the way that it uses the A story line to explore the Police, judicial system, and prison system. It doesn't get as deep as The Wire did in exploring the failure of institutions, but it does so more than most. Great characters, who feel authentic and original, really push the story week to week.

Started watching Stranger Things and Narcos over the weekend. Wow... both are really good. And both have that retro feel to them. Different worlds of course  It just amazes me how great these non network shows are getting (the ones on HBO and Netflix especially). Last night on HBO before Night Of, they showed a preview for the new show Westworld. Gonna have to check that out (October I think).

    Here's the Trailer:

I think the last "network" show I really religiously watched was 2 and a half men. Family Guy is still funny. But for the most part the stuff on Network Tv has been bs for the last decade.

No, the fact is network tv has sucked for years. Unless of course your beef is with the show I mentioned which I found hilarious pre Ashton Kutcher. The fact that you believe otherwise may be in poor taste :p

And how many more CSIs, Law and Orders, Criminal Minds, Person of Interest, NCIS, ect. type shows do we need? Which are all poorly written and acted and all the cast are "good looking" people.

I'd give Stranger Things a solid B. Good but not great. I suspect with all the hype around the show that season two will have a significantly higher budget.. The monsters from down under seemed too fake and a bit cheesy for my taste.

I'm 3 episodes in. Outstanding thus far. The beginning kinda feels like How to Make a Murderer in how it's set up to make you believe in the protagonist's innocence even though he could very well have committed the crime.

    Where something is rotten
Person of Interest does not deserve to be in this sentence.

Yes, it has some of the same "case of the week" structure, especially in the beginning, but it was one of the best sci-fi shows in the last few years.

Really did some great stuff with the AI and government surveillance theme.

Also, Amy Acker - always a plus [emoji2]

I just read that the upcoming season of Grimm will be the last, and will only get 13 episodes. The show took a long time to find its feet, but when it did about halfway into the 4th season, it got really good. I'm not sure if they changed show runners or writers, but it took a different tone and I really liked the change in direction. Sad that it will be ending.

I mostly watched a first because of my wife too, and originally thought of it as being similar to Once Upon a Time. However, Grimm always had much better actors and the special effects are absolutely top notch for a TV show, unlike the Disney show, which is so poor that the quality would distract even if the acting and writing were better. But I grew to like Grimm more and more for myself as it went on.

My wife wanted to watch the premier/pilot for the new show The Good Place, so we recorded it (its on crazy late for a comedy at 10pm) and watched it this afternoon. Its pretty awful, and I would imagine it will be cancelled quickly.

Anyone else thinking of watching Designated Survivor, with Keifer Sutherland? I don't generally like him, but the show has an interesting premise. I might record it and check it out.

Watched the second and third episodes, and it got better. I don't want to spoil anything, but there's more going on with the show than it seems at first. Still not sure how it works long term.

I'm kind of liking it so far. I'm enjoying the "true story", but reenacted for a TV audience style. It's going to be hard to top season 5, which I liked a lot.

I also had low expectations, but find it intriging with the story lines. I like the fact that the driver is black and they keep asking him to go back in time where he could be in serious trouble.

    Two new and interesting shows...

1). Chance: Starring Hugh Laurie (House). It's hard to describe this show, but it has a Breaking Bad feel to it. So far, I'm digging it.

2). Goliath: Starring Billy Bob Thornton (Amazon Prime). A washed up attorney tries to straighten his life out while suing his former firm. So far, I'm two episodes in and this show is really ****ing good. BBT is really good in this.
