Of the players on the squad who didn't start last season.. Which ones do yell think have the best chance at becoming a very good starter for us in the future?
For me, I think Tony Lippet and Zach Vigil on defense could have that potential... And on offense Matt Hazel and Jay Ajayi do. Ajayi is probably to obvious, so I'll throw out Jake Stoneburner at TE.

For you guys who like Lippett, did you watch him play a lot in college, or is this just kind of hoping he'll develop?
-
I watched him in college and honestly liked him better as a receiver but he held his own on defense.. As a receiver though he looked like Plaxico Burress.
-
I also think Lippett is just too slow to be a CB, I think they should try him at FS, the kid is a good athlete, and a good football player, probably should have just left him at WR, and that might be the best idea going forward as well.
Either way, he needs to get stronger, speed is not his thing, he's got good height, so I would work on his strength, he could be a serious mismatch vs your typical slot type CB. -
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu. So much potential but was injured rookie year and played in CLE. Was a force at Oregon. Two years removed from a major injury with limited playing time in CLE and he could shine at full health which he's reported as being.

Bobby McCain was ranked #1 slot CB before we tried him at boundary. So he has already been great.
I don't think that was a fluke, either.
Last year's draft class could wind up being best ever. Ervybody made the team, even some undrafted guys.vt_dolfan likes this. -
I expect a lot of backups and even players who are considered semi busts will improve with better coaching.

That was also a 12 round draft, and both WRs would have been UDFAs in a 7 round format.vt_dolfan and Pandarilla like this. -
The guy who does post game write ups for Finheaven.com had to eat his own words. He hated on Parker from the start, he had to admit he was delusional by the end of the season.P h i N s A N i T y likes this. -
Parker had about 450 yards and 3 TDs in the six games that he played after coming back healthy at the end of the year, and averaged 20 yards per catch or better in 5/6 games. How could anyone not be excited about that?
-
Dallas Thomas, apparently.

Ajayi's record in college was impressive running the ball and even as a receiver. Likewise in his debut season he showed flashes of being a play maker. So if he is given the chance this season to be our starting running back, which is possible if Elliot doesn't fall to us and we don't pursue a veteran free agent like Arian Foster, then I could see Ajayi breaking out and having a good season. The obvious issue with Ajayi is the rumored or reported concerns about his knee, which if true could reduce how long he plays in the league, but if his knee isn't a concern like other people report, then there's no reason why he can't have a good career with us and be a productive running back for us.
The other candidate would be Devante Parker. He pretty much has everything you look for in a number #1 wide receiver. He's not Megatron, but he has enough talent, size, athleticism and ability to be one of the top ten receivers in the league. And if that happens and he stays healthy long term, he could have a very special career with us, just like Landry could do. I wouldn't be surprised if they finished their careers as two of the most productive receivers on our all time lists, especially in terms of receiving yards.
They would be my top two choices.CrunchTime and Unlucky 13 like this. -
Jordan Phillips is under the radar. He might be a better prospect than any of the DT's coming out this year. 6'6" 330 lbs, took his lumps last year but certainly isn't limited physically. A lot of people's mind about Tannenbaum will change if Phillips progresses.
I still want to see him do a backflip after a sack... -
-
He played heavy I believe last year so his flashes were small to me compared to what I wanted to see...Parker has some real special hand eye coordination.
