I know the NFL would never do it, but one week I would love to see teams wear defunt NFL team logos (Minus the Indians and Eskamos)

Like the Dolphins can come out as the Miami Seahawks.

Would love to see the Steamrollers, Triangles, Wolverines, Tornados.

 

Miami had the old logo on their helmets last year when they wore throwbacks, was that allowed because the helmet is still white?

 

That can be an interesting, quirky thing in baseball or basketball, where teams play a ton of games and you can throw one or two away. But in the NFL, we only get so few games as it is. It would be heartbreaking to have one designated as something that isn't even the Dolphins.

You know me. I take the Dolphins uniforms extremely seriously. Its something that's a huge part of my personal pride, not unlike how some people have their national identity.

I already am pained by the current uniforms, and how they've changed the colors and taken aqua out of the uniform. To have the team wear something that's not Dolphins whatsoever would be a big kick in the groin.

 

I just can't understand that.

Would be a fun way to celebrate the history of the NFL.

 

I agree. When the Jets used to play in the Titans uniforms I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. I understand it's to make money off stupid fans.

I take it more seriously! The uniform is HUGE for me. Its a big matter of pride and attachment.

I certainly didn't say that you were stupid or anything close to it. I understand and respect that you have your position and feelings, and they're totally valid.

I just feel the polar opposite. And well, I want it to be "prim and proper". I want it to be serious, and orderly, and consistent, and slow to change. The league's stability and monolithic nature are part of what drew me to it so closely when I was younger in the first place.

 

Part of the reason I am a Dolphin fan was their uniforms were weird and their logo was different. They had the awesome passing attack while the rest of the league were mostly slowly running team.

I just can't take it serious because it is a game that is played for entertainment. It should be fun and enjoyable. Not stodgy.

 

For some people, myself included, it needs to be a bit "stogy" in order to be fun though. I need to be able to take things seriously and believe that they're going to remain mostly the same to take enjoyment from them. A percentage of the reason I've trended to watching FAR less college football than I once did is the insane and constant switching of uniforms on that level. I'll turn the TV on and have no idea who's playing until I look at the scoreboard. That just shouldn't ever happen, IMO.

There are different kinds of entertainment as well, of course. A serious drama with a really high production value, and a slapstick improv comedy are both TV shows. Both might have a bunch of fans. But I want the NFL to be the former, and not the latter.

 

Those people can't even give up one game shows just how unreasonable they are being.

I am not saying there should be a new uniform every week.

 

I still have a hard time thinking of the orange night vs the Bengals a few years ago.

 

As someone who enjoys it whenever the Miami Heat rock the Miami Floridians jersey, I wouldn't mind the Dolphins rocking a Miami Seahawks jersey.

Matter of fact, I'd take it even a step further - I'd call up the CFL and ask them if the team could use the Miami Manatees likeness for one game.

That's not true and is taking it too far. Even if I passionately disagree with them, you can be a fan and want really whatever you want.

I absolutely always use an alternate uniform when I play Madden, lol. I combine parts of the 80s and 90s looks to get the one I want. :up:

 

That’s a bit of a stretch for me. Sorry. The current NFL is the product of the National Football League and the American Football League merger. To reach way back into the days of semi-pro leagues back during the 20’s and call that part of a team’s history is a bit of a stretch, considering that in the case of the Dolphins, professional football didn’t return to Miami for another 35 years.

Now current teams in the NFL who have always been in the league, who have moved from one city to another…like the Dallas Texans (Kansas City Chiefs) or the Chicago Cardinals (Phoenix Cardinals) I can understand wearing a WAY throwback uniform, but not a team like Miami whose roots in the NFL didn’t begin until 1964

 

Even then, its really a stretch honestly. The Jets were the Titans for three seasons, ending almost 60 years ago. The Chiefs were the Texans for just one year, 60 years ago.

 

Quite the opposite actually. You can play Madden and make them play in pink and flannel jerseys if you want to entertain yourself.

 

I know that I sound like a broken record with this, but this image below is what I want our uniforms to look like. Its near perfection. If I can't get it as a primary, I'd be happy with it as the secondary.

And then compare it with our regular uniforms now, and its night and day

 

You can play madden and have your team wear anything you want. Then you can stop being a judging mcjudgerson to people who want to see real life alternate jersies. You can live in your fantasy land.

 

They look like they have just been out of the wash and haven't dried yet. They are dark for no reason.

 

To me, dark is always, always preferable. I just don't like bright colors and especially bright clothes.

 

How bout using the bizzaro uniforms in the preseason.It might give us something to talk about during not so great games.

 

That's a fair suggestion. Some teams already experiment that way, with otherwise unused combinations.

LMAO, I can't understand that at all. They could come out in pink ballerina suits and hockey helmets for all I care, as long as we play hard and win the game. I'm not judging you- I'm just bewildered by your viewpoint. When they radically change jerseys, I either like it or I don't, but then that's it...it's out of my mind entirely.

With that said, my black and green Jacksonville/Tebow jerseys (one's for my brother) showed up from China a few days ago! Woohoo! They got here in like 3 weeks.

 

Well, we're all going to feel our own ways, but I really, really do think that you're in the minority on this. Or maybe, fans in South Florida area? Certainly, the attachment and identity is stronger in some parts of the country than others.

I can absolutely promise you that if the Steelers changed colors away from Black and Gold, that their fans would completely revolt.

When the Packers threw out the idea of switching from gold to a soft or beige color on their pants in the 90s, their fans quickly put an end to the idea.

Can you imagine Ohio St or Michigan switching from their historic colors and having people be ok with it?

 

I get what you're saying- if the Fins came out in purple and gold all of a sudden, then they're not the Dolphins anymore (at least as we know them). So I do agree with you that aqua and orange need to be the staple (or black and gold for Pitt). But beyond that, I have no problem with them getting creative adding in black, white and grey accents to create completely new looks.

My "favorite" fins outfit is probably white tops w/ aqua and orange stripes on the sleeves, then aqua pants. That was maybe mid 80's into the 90's? I really don't know because I've never thought about it too hard. But it does not bother me if they switch the colors up within our wheelhouse- to me that makes it fun. I just never imagined that those changes would make other people angry. =)

For the record though, if they came out in pink tutu's...highlighted in aqua and orange...that would make my year! I would absolutely die laughing.

 

Funny, as a kid I always wanted them to change to a darker shade of aqua. But then when they did, I hated it because they went too green with the color.

 

I've seen some photos from the 60s where the shade of aqua looks terrific, and noticeably darker than it was in the 70s. But with shots from that period, I know that sometimes the color isn't accurate. The color used earlier in the 80s is really good, but I think its a bit too light. Similar to the current throwbacks.

But beyond that, the color used from 1989-1996 is as close to perfect as I've ever seen. I think that it blends with the orange used back then in a great way, so long as the orange is always just an accent. And the change in the white jerseys that was made in 1994 where they eliminated the black space between the numbers and the orange border makes the 94-96 ones my absolute favorites. I also love the logo being on the arm sleeve while the numbers are on the shoulder pads from that period.
