Any Reid, Tony Sparano, Jay Gruden, Mike Zimmer, Marc Trestman, Lovie Smith, Doug Marrone, Mike Smith, Sean Payton, Rex Ryan, Ken Whisenhunt, Ron Rivera, Gus Bradley, Tom Coughlin, Jeff Fisher, Jim Harbaugh and Joe Philbin. That's more than half the league. The potential coach firing stories are going to net NFL.com millions of hits.

 

Agreed. There's not enough insight there.

It's just picking GMs, HCs, and QBs from bad teams.

Not hard to assemble a list like that.

We lost our power run game with Moreno, lost our pass pro anchor with Albert, lost a slew of CBs, and we were a fringe playoff team to begin with. I'm shocked that people's expectations haven't evolved. And actually, the team has still met or exceeded most of the pre-season expectations.

 

As I said elsewhere, I had us pegged for 8.5 wins.

I was at 9.5, not quite who I thought we were but for a half game off I won't go after any big fish, Dallas Thomas and Jimmy Wilson are good enough for me. I want them FIRED!!!

 

That's a good step. Wilson is more trouble than he's worth with all his penalties and Dallas Thomas was a mistake of a draft pick.

Considering we won't play the Packers and Broncos next year, I would anticipate a 10-win season. That is after all, our current trajectory.

It's almost funny that in the face of an upcoming season which should conservatively net us 9-11 wins that Miami fans of all people are so anxious to gamble.

If we were 8-8 next year, I'd be on board. But it's more likely we go 11-5 next year as opposed to 8-8.

People don't see it though.

 

I want Ellerbe and Wheeler gone. This can save cap space and we need better linebackers. Not sure how much money Clay is looking for but if it's too much then I'm fine with him walking. Sims isn't too much of a downgrade if at all and they need a better play making tight end anyway. The teams need to go for better guards too.

 

we'll see how they finish but if it aint strong, no'one is gonna get what they think they should get..

 

I have one more name to add to that list of guys who need to be on the way out... Adam Schein. The guy who wrote the article.

Not that I think Philbin has earned another year, but, Schein is a Jets fan and a tool. Which is redundant.

 

Man I am sorry, that is so far fetched to think with Philbin we go 11-5 next year..He just blew his biggest chance this year. Yes we have had alot of injuries but we cannot use that as an excuse as every team has to deal with injuries. I also feel like the players are through with him being their "Leader"? So, sadly it is time for a change once again. Darn we could have kept Wanny 20 years ago and made him have a GM and I swear we would be better than we have been since his departure, and I did not like his boring conservative game plans either...Point being, we are in the same boat ovet 20 years and counting..... da...da....da....DUMB !!

Let's look at next years schedule and compare ourselves to those teams.

Division Games: Buffalo, NYJ, NE

Home games: Indy, Houston, Dallas, NYG, AFC North opponent (likely Steelers/Bengals).

Away games: Jacksonville, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Washington, AFC West Opponent (likely Chargers)


To me, that's an easier schedule than what we faced this year. I bolded the teams I think we'd beat. Considering we beat the Bengals last year and did in fact beat the Chargers badly this year, it's not hard to see.

Based on how the team played during the middle of this year, I'd say we will win at least 6 if not 7 of those non-divisional games next year. If we managed 3 or 4 wins in the division (same as this year) we'd be on pace for 10 or 11 wins.


Seriously...there's not a lot of need for doom and gloom. We simply had a mf'er of a schedule this year with the Broncos and Packers as well as the Lions in Detroit.

I'd put that number at 10.5 for next year doing the same exact thing.

 

So your theory is based entirely on SOS? Not convincing IMO. And how exactly is that an argument for keeping Philbin? The logic applies to any HC.

 

The one move we can make that will have the biggest impact on this organization going forward is firing failbin and hiring a coach with balls larger than peas.

Seriously, why are you guys posting about that Joe Philbin guy. The real story is number 1:

The way their season is deteriorating he won't want anything to do with the Niners or even the state of California. There's absolutely ZERO incentive to go to Oakland. They're a coach's nightmare personnel management wise. I don't think the Niners want this bad press and Harbaugh won't get a fair shake in the media on that team anymore. New York is a dumpster fire with no QB. Miami has a guy who has shown more than Alex Smith did before Harbaugh turned him into a starting QB. I lke those odds.

 

Once again he was coaching a game when his team had a decimated OL. FWIW

 

I don't see the draw with Harbaugh honestly.

He took over a 49ers team that had a very solid roster and has managed to work himself out of the best HC job in football.

If he can't make that situation work, what does that say about him?

The Dolphins aren't going to get to the Super Bowl next year, so we're not looking for a 1-trick pony. Miami is going to need someone with team development abilities.

So again, I don't see the upside of Harbaugh in Miami.

Seems to me it would be a bad fit.

 

I stopped reading at Andy Reid and Gus Bradley. Frankly half the coaches on there either need more time, talent or some combo there of. Lets look at some of these....

1. Andy Reid - The chiefs arent a very talented team. There, I said it. They dont win games unless its a physical bloodbath. They have no big play ability aside from Charles and while Smith plays a very safe game, they underutilize Bowe and Kelce who are far and away their two best WR's. Their D is ok, especially the front 7 but their secondary leaves something to be desired. Thats not coaching, thats GM/personnel.

2. Gus Bradley - Team is ascending. He simply needed a QB. Not sure if they found a RB in Denard Robinson who had a few good weeks but has come crashing back to earth the last few weeks. Cecil Shorts is a FA but they get Justin Blackmon back next year. They need more talent. Falls on the GM not the HC. I like the feistiness they have but that only takes you so far.

3. Tom Coughlin - Giants fans (and myself) have said Perry Fewell is horrible for years, even prior to their SB win. You know thats true when the coordinator barely gets interviews for HC jobs after a SB win (he wasnt there for 2007). Eli likes McAdoo and they dont want to give Eli a 3rd OC in 3 years and incidentally I think this is the reason they keep Coughlin (you cant force the new coach to keep the OC and still get a good coach). Also, theyre more talented then their record. They have a league high 20 players on I.R. The Mara's handle the football side of their partnership with the Tisch family (who usually handle the finance side) and they realize Coughlin's won 2 SB's for them in 11 years and theyre also aware the roster has declined in recent years which falls on the GM.

Payton, Zimmer and Gruden have strong cases to stay as well.

As for Philbin, cant wait to see him gone.

 

He's going to Oakland. Drop it.

 

Just because his methodology might be faulty does not at all mean his analysis of Philbin isn't correct. There is no defending Philbin at this point. We are what we were when he arrived. By year three you have to at least be fighting for the playoffs. We aren't. We have three weeks to watch the playoffs develop without us in them. Sucks to be the Fins...AGAIN. Philbin is the easiest termination decision in the NFL.

 

Whose expectations did this team exceed? Not mine.

 

Dolphin fans more than any teams fans should know judging a teams strength from one season to the next is fallacy.

You DO remember us going from 1-15 to 11-5 in one offseason right?

I wonder how many people "Bolded" us after the 1-15 season and said "well thats an easy win next year".

This is the NFL....your theory is as useful as putting a schedule up and throwing darts.

He took over a 6-10 team, put together a .717 record over the next four years, went to three straight NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl, winning five playoff games in the process (which we haven't done since 2000, by the way), and even the championship games he lost they were very competitive in all of those games (as opposed to the last three playoff games Miami has played).
