http://www.nbcnews.com/business/google-eyeing-nfls-sunday-ticket-package-6C10971395 This would be devestating. Id have to drive to 45 minutes and sit in a noisy bar to watch football on Sunday's off, and completely lose the ability to record the game on Sunday's where I work. Really, really hoping that DirecTV steps up and keeps things as they are. Please dont ruin things, NFL. This would put me back ten years in how Im able to watch the Fins.
I imagine it would be an app that would either run on your computer/phone/tablet, and that could be streamed to your tv. You'd probably be able to download the game at any time. And anyway, it can't even happen until after next season, so no use worrying about it now
I don't know if the NFL would give google exclusivity. The NFL has gone out of it's way to chip away at DTV's exclusivity rights. DirectTV has to basically give Sunday Ticket away these days. I could see the NFL striking a deal with google to get the ticket if DTV doesn't renew, but if DTV doesn't renew, the ticket will likely be sold to multiple media platforms.
It would be through Google TV or Chromecast directly to your TV. Apps to mobile devices as well. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
I cant get cable, cable internet, DSL or any other kind of broadband where I live, and that isnt likely to change at any point in the near future. I call both compaines about once a year, and they all but give me the finger. DirecTV is my TV provider, and Im very happy with them.
I guess that would leave you.....unlucky. I personally would love this provided it was at least north american rights.
Right. Similarly, I imagine Google would have to strike a deal with Apple to put the app on Apple TV. I tell ya, if this happened, I'd be very close to dumping Directv all together and just having SundayTicket, NBA package, Netflix and Hulu
Regardless of their rivalry, they need each other. Google is still just a software company who doesn;t want to abandon the millions of Apple hardware owners out there. Google is the default search engine on the Iphone and Ipad and Google Maps was released for the Iphone 5 to much fanfare after the problems with Apple's proprietary GPS system. If this happens, I can guarantee the Sunday Ticket app will be on appleTv
It's not really about their rivalry as trying to take out your comp. Think about it. Google already did it with the maps app. It probably will be available for apple, but only after apple pays more for it. If not google will just make some sort of web based service that everyone can access.
NFL.tv just like MLB.tv is long overdue.....every out of market game every week via internet (at an affordable price)!
"Tannehill drops back.......throws deep to Wallace......this could be for the gammmmeee............ *buffering*
Well, I'm 100% positive that the App will be available from the apple App Store. You might be right that it could take longer to get the App on Apple TV, though it's easy enough to just mirror the app from your ipad to the tv if you have both apple products
I'm sure it will be too.........but apple will have to pay for it..........a lot. If google gets this, they have the upper hand.
I get it free every year with DirecTv. I'd rather it stay that way then have to pay for it elsewhere.
How do you manage to get if free every year? I tried that and they told me they had no discounts/promotions for existing customers
There's different ways to get it. The easiest would probably be to just call up and ask when your contract ends. That should get you to retention. You can tell them you're only with DirecTV because of Sunday Ticket and it's just too expensive now. Sometimes you succeed with 1 call, other times it may take a few calls with different reps to get what you want.
