he goes on to say that people in the know include Gregg Williams and several different coaches and and as high as GM Micky Loomis who was at one point directed by the Owner to stop it and he did not.
Wow, hell of a thing to get caught for, no penelities yet but could include draft picks.

While I agree this is a player safety issue and should be dealt. However I am confused by how this hurts the integrity of the game.
How does this hurt the integrity of the game? -
-
However even if it isn't money, the players are rewarded with praise for it. If the hit is legal, it doesn't take away from the integrity of the game.
There are players in the Hall of Fame that are famous for trying to hurt players on purpose. -

Saying that, I disagree with the idea that it hurts the integrity of the game -

It doesn't really matter what the fans think, its obviously against the rules and with the league facing lawsuits from ex players over concussions, etc, its a bad time to get caught doing this. I'm sure this happens all the time but the Saints got caught and they are probably going to be facing suspensions and loss of draft picks.

It does hurt the integrity of the game. What is integrity?
Adherence to moral and ethical principles. Intentionally trying to hurt someone is not moral. Or ethical. Getting hurt is part of the game. Intentionally trying to hurt someone, isn't.
The game is, trying to score when you have the ball, trying to prevent the other team from scoring when they have the ball. Anything other than that, hurts the integrity.
This absolutely hurts the integrity of the game. -

I don't agree with cheap shots, but have no problem with a payment system that pays for hits or creating turnovers if they aren't dirty.

The answer to this is for opponents to then do the same to the Williams' coached teams' players, that is how this was handled, when his guys were being knocked out of games, the actual consequences became apparent, that was the physicality of the NFL..at one time..now not at all, they cry like bullied children to officials which does not stop this behavior.
But because the NFL no longer really runs on an eye for an eye basis when it comes to cheap shots, we instead have hand wringing. FWIW the yr the Saints won the SB and they shellacked the patriots in new orleans, it was fairly obvious to me what they were doing, Sharper hit Moss on his knee early in the game and that was pretty much it for Moss, he lost all interest. -
This will lead to even more referees with itchy flag fingers.

Playing I was taught you hit to knock someone out of the game. Not injure them badly or give them a concussion, but just knock the living crap out of them.

I do believe that players do try to injure other players-it may not be good sportsmanship but it happens on different levels not just with the NFL.I have seen it happen in Pee Wee football, high school, and it surely happens in college and pro.Now the bounty thing just brings it to a new level and should not go unpunished. If it happened in NO it could happen on other teams as well.

 as another poster said this is more than likely a normal behavior in the league. How do you try to legislate it out? Ban coaches? Another coach will replace them, or the players will pony up the dough on their own, and run it that way.
I still say this isn't a big deal......I'll save the outrage for when a team tries to get a competitive advantage such as actual cheating, like filming hand sign...oh wait, probably still happens....

A NFL player has died on the field, but it wasn't from a hit it was from a heart attack.
