I find it incredible when watching NFL how defending men stand and watch receivers gallop past them, then when they've given them a 10 yard head start, turn to give chase. Is this some sort of macho thing ? Also, when the ball is thrown towards receivers and there is a defensive man in front of him, the defender somehow misses the ball and allows the receiver , WHO IS BEHIND HIM, catch it! Also, also, how five hulking blokes in the front line to protect the QB, cant stop five other blokes from getting past them. I don't give a hoot who the others are, they should NEVER EVER, get past to touch the QB.
All these things I've asked down seem to affect the Dolphins more than most.

Nabo, I know you don't like me as you've evidenced on numerous occasions, and I know we rarely ever see eye to eye on subjects, but your signature makes me respect you a hell of a lot more than most around here. As a person who has worked closely with animal rescue agencies in my area and has a cousin and sister-in-law who both run pet rescue/adoption facilities I can sincerely appreciate the work done by organizations like the one in your sig. I'm the proud papa of 5 rescue cats and I love them all to death.

As for offensive line play vs defensive line play...well...defensive players get payed too  -
I know American football can seem a bit confusing. Sometimes I think in the quest of the game to be innovative, coaches sometimes design schemes that confuse the players themselves.
As to the defender question, you can't always play man on man coverage. Some receivers are just too tall, too strong or too fast for a defender to keep up with him, so you have different types of "coverages" in which a defender just off the line of scrimmage may only cover the receiver for a portion of the route, but releases him to be defended by another defender behind him and that first defender defends a zone in case a runnng back gets a pass out of the backfield or what have you. A little difficult to explain typin it, but there are different types of defenses for pasing plays.
The question about defenders being in front of the receiver and the receiver still catching the ball? Well that's why receivers are receivers, and defenders are defenders. Truthfully, cornerbacks (the defenders) are usually player who started off playing receiver, so they have the ability to catch the ball, but they usually weren't tall enough or strong enough to play receiver at the NFL level, so they play cornerback and defend against receivers.
And the 5 hulking bodies you refer to...(I have to admit, I like that description  ), gotta remember that that if you have 5 hulks facing off against another 5 hulks, the hulks you want to win the blocking battle aren't always going to.
I'm just glad to see a bloke from England interested in and likes American football. I met an Englishman a month or so ago in Dubai who said he loved American football....just didn't understand the game.
Maybe our football will surpass your football :sidelol: -
Cheers in advance.
PS Maybe we should pay our offense front men more. LOL -
Bro, I don't dislike you. We've disagreed enough, to be sure, but we're fans of this team and we both bleed the colors.
Can't hate that.
Purrfect Pals is an organization which saves about 2000 lives a year; on their compound they even have permanent quarantine sections where kitties with FHIV and Feline Leukemia can live out their lives until it's their time. They provide low-cost spay-and-neuter, and work with feral colonies to give them better lives and keep them from breeding.
Of all the animal rescue groups, it is one that definitely works. This is Earl Grey, he's from PP:

Thanks Dark Knight, that makes things a little clearer. I've beeen following NFL for years without fully understanding it all. I still watch and wonder when it appears that the blockers seem to give up blocking sometimes in the face of a persistant offensive man.
PS Not sure about the football thing tho'. :pointlol:
PPS I'll be there at the Bills game in November, all being well. We have a night in Fort L on the Saturday then onto Miami for Sunday!!!!
