Just saw that on NFLN. Sorry if already posted. Nothing big, but it's being reported that The Phins are expected to contact Cowher once the HC position is officially open. There's some smoke for ya' Let the fun begin!

Nooooo!! Ross is a piece of garbage. That Cowher fellow is hated. Him and Overlord Peterson could never coexist! I'm giving up my season tickets and will start rooting for the Jets - Unless we trade the 2012, 2013 and 2014 drafts for Andrew Luck!!

This is news? If they didn't contact The Chin I would have no hope for Ross/Peterson/Ireland. Not sure He's my preferred HC but I wouldn't be too unhappy about having Cowher either.
-
I think this is a mistake. I don't think he wants to come back to coaching so it will just be another rejection that will make Miami look bad. I see this as more of a pr move.

I heard on the NFL Network that besides Cowher and Gruden that other names included Jeff Fisher and Brian Billick. But they also mentioned that none of those guys would probably take the job with Ireland still on board. Him staying around would mean Ross has a lot of faith in his decisions, regardless of the coach, among other things.

How about Chuckie's lil bro?

When they say the HC is "officially open", are they saying that we cannot hire a HC until the end of the season? I know I read that even though our interim coach is African American, we still have to abide by the Rooney-Rule once the HC is officially open...but am confused as to when "officially" happens. Are we able to lock down a HC in the next couple of weeks or do we have to wait til the end of the season?

You would think Ross would learn from his mistakes but no, he is a ****tard.finyank13 likes this. -
I think the Dolphins will contact the same three guys that we've been talking about this whole time, Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden and Jeff Fisher.
I think they KNOW that Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden are likely to rebuff them, but it doesn't hurt to invite them to interview for the job. If they refuse, they refuse. But I think they know that Jeff Fisher is most likely to be the guy, and that's why they fired Tony so quickly after Kansas City fired Haley. I think the bulk of their vetting efforts will be focused on Jeff Fisher because they know he's the most likely.finyank13 likes this. -
As for the three big names, and even the fourth big name if you still think Andy Reid will get fired....you could make a case that all three of them benefited from having three of the best defensive minds in the history of the game coaching their defenses.
When Jim Johnson died, Andy Reid's defense went immediately in the crapper and hasn't yet recovered no matter how much money and resources they throw down the well. They went 11-5 and 10-6 in the years after Jim's death, with wildcard playoff exits both years, and now are not even a playoff team despite their "dream team" status.
You could also argue that Jon Gruden was made by Monte Kiffin's defenses in Tampa Bay. It's pretty clear that in 2002 they won the Super Bowl with probably the greatest defense I've been around to see other than the 2000 Ravens squad. Gruden's offenses generally sucked in Tampa Bay and if he was such an offensive genius one does have to wonder why that was, especially given the control he had on personnel in some of those years.
You could also argue that Bill Cowher's defensive prowess was built by Dick LeBeau. The Pittsburgh defense was not nearly as good during the time that LeBeau left for Cincinnati, and when LeBeau returned so too did the great Pittsburgh defensive prowess. And now Cowher has left, and that defense has continued to be awesome with Mike Tomlin as coach instead of Bill Cowher. Tomlin has been to two Super Bowls since Cowher left, thanks to LeBeau's defense and Roethlisberger's arm.
But Jeff Fisher...he wasn't really made by anyone. He also doesn't have the impressive record that those other guys had...but I mean when Fisher came up a yard short in the Super Bowl he had Les Steckel as his offensive coordinator (color me unimpressed). Gregg Williams was his defensive coordinator. Good, but not really a LeBeau/Kiffin/Johnson. -

I don't think going from a coach that had a reputation as not being a guy they wanted play for, then going to a guy they dislike more is a good idea.
Bill Cowher isn't coaching next year.
I think Jon Gruden can be lured. I just wonder if we are the right situation for him.
Jeff Fischer is the obvious choice right now.
I have this scary intuition that Brian Billick may be a candidate. I think they prefer a coach with HC experience. He has a Supwr Bowl. He's familiar with Mike Nolan, who I assume they'd like to retain. He has a history of a high flying offense from his days in Minnesota. I think he could be a dark horse. -
Everyone seems to hate it, but I dont mind the idea of Billick being the next HC. We could do alot worse.
-
I'm not impressed with the idea.

Inches to go to after gashing the Dolphins D and he goes for a FG.. Prevented us from going 0-16. The Ravens had NOTHING to play for that game.. And he played it safe when he could have easily won.. -
As for Fisher, IMO he's another Sparano. And I don't mean that as a negative. He's been successful when he's had good QB play and not so much when he didn't. Sparano was gone b/c he adjusted too late and the fan base wanted blood, but I liked the OC and DC we finally had. My hope is that if Fisher is the guy, that he's able to get us an equally good staff as what we finally had. If we have that and the right QB then I see enough talent on this team to be optimistic about the future. -
There's speculation that Chargers coach Norv Turner won't be back next year, and Fisher would jump at that job, being from Southern Cali and going to USC. If not, I think he'd be a great coach for us.

Cowher I think is still young enough to have enough stamina to continue building on his coaching lewgacy. He is not my 1st choice but I won't be disappointed if he lands here.

Some guru. Just like Sporano that tag was unwarranted. Billick is a fraud. -

They were speculating that the reason he was fired after his press conference was because they learned of the Chiefs firing of Haley and that Fisher was one of the two whom were going to be interviewed by the Chiefs, so Ross felt like he had to act quickly. So, I guess he is interested in Fisher.

I do think the KC firing had something to do with the timing of our letting Sparano go. If we are competing for the same coaches I think we might lose out because of Jeff Ireland. If we lose out on a coach because of Ireland then we are in a lot of trouble.
-
We'll get the coach who keeps Ireland safe. Ireland has Ross' ear and will push for a coach he knows is unlikely to get him fired.
-
To hire fisher they will have to get his approval to draft a qb. He hasn't forgot vince young
