Just a little heads up for those who have been watching streamed games this pre-season. Much better to see it in HD and also have the ability to rewind. Notes from the game: - Carpenter and Fields look fantastic. With that, ST coverage looks solid. Important as we continue with the season. A nice punt with good coverage can certainly change the game in close matches. - Given Miami's D missed two starters (save a couple of plays), I thought the D played solidly. Nice to see the 'coverage' sacks. I am a little worried about the deep guys, though. - Tannehill bounced back nicely from the INT. He still looks like a rook at times. Pruitt down by the goal line comes to mind. That ball should have been there much earlier. It could be arm fatigue or apprehension, but the ball must come out much quicker on some of these plays. His balls this game were not as hot, though, his arm strength was more than adequate. These things can certainly get fixed. On the great out of bounds catch by Gates, #42 Charles Clay was wide open in the seam for at least 20 yards. Even though Tannehill looked that way after the snap, his eyes stayed on Gates. Granted, it was a great throw to a 1-on-1 on the outside, the defense gave up that pass to #42. Gates was thoroughly covered as well. Gates got away with a push. His field vision is not there on some of these plays, and that needs improvement. Decision making and field vision can go up a notch, but his ball placement was pretty spot on some of these plays for a rookie QB. - Wake. Wow. This guy gets held and still comes up with sacks. What scares me, and this happened last year, is that teams will double-team him. Someone has to step up in passing situations (3rd and longs). Does Miami have that specialty rusher? - And speaking of Wake and holds, the refs are turrble. Just turrble. I saw Bess blatantly held and thrown off his route on one play at about 8 yards and there was no penalty. Wake's sack before the half, he was obviously held, and no penalty. I can see the outcomes of games being affected if these refs begin the season. It happens at times (part of the game), but these guys (and gal) are just plain bad. I understand that it must be difficult to ref an NFL game, but I thought it would be better than this. ___________________________________ Watching the game, it was not half as bad as I thought watching it live. I will not mention Jonathan Martin. This hurry up offense is scary, but not necessarily in a good way. Miami held the ball 23-24 minutes this game. This puts way too much pressure on the defense. Especially given the fact that this is all new to the offense, there may be more games like this. A couple of quick three-and-outs late in the game tires out a defense. The running game looked good, and I hope that they rely on this a little more once the season begins, although I suspect a bunch of 8 man fronts until the offense makes them pay for it; but how, given the lack of playmakers on offense? As always, I am excited for the beginning of the season, and hope that Tannehill becomes the pick this team desperately needs. I do not expect too much from him this year, but I do hope I see some growth. I just hope he does not fall under the pressures of being a starting QB in the league, especially being the starting QB of the Miami Dolphins. I also hope this O-line can keep his uniform relatively clean. We have seen over the years what happens to a highly-touted QB who cannot stay clean in the pocket. Let's hope it does not happen here.
