From the bit of action I was able to catch in the one on one drills yesterday Raji and Brace were definitely the most dominant interior defenders. Evander Hood looked good as well and beat several lineman with a nice spin move.
Hate to say it but Trevor Canfield was not very impressive at all yesterday at OG. Raji, Brace and Hood had their way with him.
Raji is quicker off the ball and has a few more pass rush moves whereas Brace, who still gets off the ball nicely just stands the C or G up and walks him back to the QB.

I still stand by my statement that when its all said and done that Hood gets into the 1st round. Too good a player to not get selected early. Never quits, and has the quicks to beat just about anyone.
If anyone wants to get a great pass rushing DE again this year he might be worth a look for a 3-4 team. Imagine him being kicked inside on passing downs with pass rushers added to his outside. -

I'm recording every one of them. :wink2:

Looks like the guy i want in the 1st was ragdolling the only real NT coming out this year ........woot
I'm sure they both got the better of each other from time to time but it's good to read.

A guy I've mentioned for months as a dark horse C just got some love from Mayock.
A.Q. Shipley. -
Ubrik is very quietly having a good showing. No one mentions him, but all he does is win battles.
Mack has the base to handle a 3-4 nose, no doubt,.........but I want to see the pass pro in a game.funkdat likes this. -

Canfield has pretty big arms and very wide shoulders for an OL. The undersized DT from Iowa, King I believe, has impressed. Pretty quick on the inside and is all out hustle all the time. -
Mack will battle. -

Hi Wes, Thanks a lot for the article on the Senior Bowl.
Quick questions - How much do you think Ron Brace and BJ Raji have benefited from playing right next to each other? Also, which one do you think would make a better nose tackle in a 3-4 defense?
Scott: I talked with Raji last night and he said the two them competed all year with each other. They both did a nice job eating up blockers and allowing the other to get some 1v1 opportunities. As for the better nose in a 3/4 defense, it is without a doubt Raji. Raji has been a man amongst boys down here and is very, very impressive. He can eat up blockers and control the point of attack. He talked with Bill Parcells and the Dolphins brass yesterday as well, and he said that the Dolphins were very interested in drafting him and making him their NT next year. The only question is, how much will the Dolphins need to trade up to get him?Mile High Fin, Big Red, joefootball and 1 other person like this. -
The guy I keep coming back to is Antoine Caldwell. Here's what TFY wrote.

Raji and Caldwell are two guys I'd love to get in the draft.
I just find it hard fathom a guy like Sintim or Raji still being around by pick #25. -
Vance Walker looked very good today in case anyone didn't notice. :wink2:
He was driving O-lineman back all day. -

*cough* Antoine Caldwell *cough*
Technician, but can absorb the rush and redirect quite well. Maybe not as explosive overall, but no slouch at all. -
I think a player that noone is talking about and should be a first rounder is Tyson Jackson from LSU, I mean i know we have kendall and phillip but gosh is this guy a great football player. Been talking about him on this board for two years now. I only wish it was a possibility that merling could move to outside linebacker. If i knew that could happen i would draft vonnie Holliday's replacement in Tyson Jackson. Prototype 34 defensive end..huge relentless player. he made Glen Dorsey look good.

Jake Long Max Unger Antoine Caldwell Donald Thomas Vernon Carey*
* Assuming we re-sign Carey, also Caldwell and Unger could be switched.Big Red likes this. -
I am with you in regards to Merling not being moved to OLB. I find it funny that people still think he will be moved there in the near future. I have been saying this for A LONG time, but if they do move him to OLB I will gladly eat my Crow.
One thing to note is how Merling did as DT in the 3-4. If I recall correctly Ferguson was injured week 2 and 3 and Merling replaced him as the DT and statistically speaking had great stats for 2 games (5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FR). If you extrapolate his stats for a full 16 games at DT you get 40 Tackles and 8 Sacks (although he would probably have less Sacks because 2 games is a small sample size). Thats decent numbers for a 3-4 DT. All that being said I can't really remember how he played overall and if he got good push and held his own against the run. If we could have Merling put on more weight maybe we could move him inside, draft Tyson Jackson and then have a 3-4 line-up of Kendal Langford, Phillip Merling and Tyson Jackson in a few years. -
