Last year's thread with Pagan's Penguins and the Stanley cup was rather fun so why not have an abbreviated version? -Penguins...out -Washington Capitals..out -Montreal Canadians have won consecutive 7 game series, the "New York Yankees" of the NHL, no Franchise has won more stanley cups. -Boston Bruins are in the middle of a legendary, tell the grandkids style choke after going up in the Flyers 3-0, then allowing the Flyers to scratch back into the series, a Game 7 Friday night settles the series. Out west: The San Jose Sharks will face the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Finals.
Yeah, what's crazy is if the Flyers win, the Eastern conference will have the 7th and 8th seeded teams while the Western conference will have the 1st and 2nd seeded teams. I'm a Habs fan and I'm proud of what they've done this year with the injuries and all. I still think Chicago is the team to beat though. They look too electric.
The Habs a dangerous team Tone E, the knocked out the Caps and Pens, each with unarguably 2 of the top 4 players in the NFL. I can recall the 1994 run with Patrick Roy virtually willing them to a Stanley Cup.
The habs are due for a cup; I believe this is the longest cup drought they have ever encountered. That said Id like to see the Hawks win. Thats a great franchise that hasnt won anything in a long time. Id like to see an original six final...Hawks over the Habs
I recall the Hawks as a powerhouse with Jeremy Roenick. Gotta go with the Habs if they make it, to me people don't realize what a storied franchise that is...sometimes you have to toss the ghosts a schnitzel every now and then..
We'll see what happens. It will be exciting to say the least. Montreal in '93 was a crazy wicked team. But, I live in Toronto, and everyone reminds me that in the other semi finals, LA Kings vs. TOR Maple Leafs, Gretzky high sticked a guy in OT and wasn't called. If that was called, Toronto would have won the series and beat Montreal blah blah blah. I'm just ashamed that the idiots down there would riot and flip cars for making the Eastern finals. I mean, c'mon. Two more rounds to go if anything.
I still hate the habs for knocking off the Isles during that 93-94 season. We had just beaten the Pens in one of the biggest upsets in NHL playoff history. They were like 1000000 to 1 favorites.
Oh yeah!?!? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_URO6cwLbM"]YouTube- 1999 - Brett Hull goal[/ame] To this day Bro, to this day...
Gotta throw it up for my all time NHLer..#39 to boot: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pABgAHg93jQ"]YouTube- The "Dominator" Dominik Hasek[/ame]
Yeah, Montreal set a record in 1993 for 10 playoff overtime wins. No losses. Padre, I still can't believe that damned skate in the crease rule.
I remember it well...I think it was Dejardins or Dandenault burying a point shot in like the 2nd or 3rd overtime at like 1AM EST against my Isles.
I'd love to express to you how I feel about your post but I like it here and don't want to get banned.
I'm happy they got as far as they did all things considered. I don't really consider it a choke. The series was tight the whole way. The 3-0 series lead was misleading. Game 1 went to OT. Game 2 was won in the last 3:00. Game 3 was a Bruins blow out. Game 4 went to OT. (Krejci got hurt Gagne came back, the turning point in the series) Game 5 was a Flyer blowout. Game 6 was a 1 goal game that was air tight through out. Game 7 was a 1 goal game, decided by Gagne on a late powerplay. Tight series all the way. I don't think the Bruins or the Flyers would have had anything left in the tank anyway. Halak is playing so well right now. Does not matter anyway, the Western Champ is gonna stomp the Habs or the Flyers.
Bro, if you like physical sports the Canadians vs the Flyers will be full of mauling, hitting style of hockey, these are not "cute" teams they check opponents into the boards, and try and dump the puck around the net and just try and hammer it into the goal. The ratings won't be great, but man this will be blue collar hockey to a "T".
Yea...that's the same **** I tried to use when the Yanks blew that 3 game lead in Boston a few years ago. Didn't work then, doesn't work now. And damn you to hell, Halak.
Losing Krejci (and to a lesser extent, Sturm) in this series was a huge, huge blow to an already offensively challenged team. That said, blowing a 3-0 lead in Game 7 on a too many men penalty was an epic stomach punch to an already scarred fanbase. Brutal. Although, its tough not to look ahead to the draft in a couple of weeks. Hall or Seguin?? And with Tuukka in net, the future is bright for this organization. They'll be back in a big way next season.
Sacre' Bleu! The Flyers go up 2-0. Thank God the Black Hawks won. I want an old time Hockey Finals so bad. Chicago vs Philly or Montreal will be epic!
One game flyer boy, it's one game... I ended up putting the baseball game on because the Flyers are working the Habs.
one game after being nearly knocked out the previous series and against a goalie that was on fire.. oleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ollleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Congrats on the good win. Philly came out flying, no pun intended, but Montreal will be back. We had our chances, Leighton played well, and Halak was screened on most goals. 7 penalties to 1 doesn't help Montreal either. And, to all the Philly fans, thank you for taunting the Canadiens with our own song, you will regret it by game 6.
good doesn't describe that win. we kicked your ***. so halak was screened on most goals, what've you got for the reasons price was scored on? ole, ole
Price sucks, you think cuz I root for the Habs I'll be homer like? Keep singing. My post after game 6 will be just as harsh and ignorant! Can't wait. Just don't tell me to show class when you've already proven you have little, not only to me, but to the Boston fans on here as well. But I guess I shouldn't get too worked up, you are a Philly fan after all. Ole ole ole ole ole.....ole......ole! PS. That roughing call against Moore was a POS, and that slash on Gomez, are you kidding me? Pee Wee players slash harder than that when they are actually trying. It was pathetic.
game two between montreal and philly is underway and it has the makings of one hell of a game. Habs still having problems defensively with breakdowns in assignments but they are playing chippy. I expect a few nice fights in this game and tons of hits
