Not just that, but they pulled a Twilight Princess by dual releasing.

Unfortunate, yes. But Nintendo needs a killer app at launch.

Zelda U moving to the NX is fine, but that's not an incentive to buy an NX; it's an incentive to buy a cheap Wii U on sale and play the Wii U version of the game.

Killer apps for the NX should be:

    1. A new 3D full size Mario game. Mario Galaxy was probably the true Mario 64 successor, but it's been a while since we've had a new Mario experience.
    2. A new, original IP, similar to when Bayonetta debuted. Bayonetta is widely considered one of the best action games of the last decade, at minimum. Nintendo needs more of that.
    3. A long-awaited sequel to a mid-tier franchise. A new Metroid game would accomplish this perfectly. It's been 7 years since Other M and Federation Force is not well received.

And that's just for launch, from Nintendo. They'll need good 3rd party support, too. Minecraft should be on there immediately. Get a surprise, like an HD remake of Final Fantasy VI. And get a console version of a portable game to hook in that crowd, like a new Monster Hunter game.

Looks like #2 in my list above may happen: new rumor is that Retro (Metroid Prime) is working on a new IP for the NX, will come out in 2017.

They should have a Pokemon game on the NX. Something like Pokemon Stadium

If the Wii U drops in price enough after the new system comes out, I may look at getting one for my kids. Its hard to find new games for the Wii these days, and most of the ones we have are extremely lame. I'd also like to keep them off of my PS4, lol.

It's already worth it. It's backwards compatible with all Wii games. Just get a used one.

I'm seeing used ones mostly around $175. Way too pricey for what I'm looking to do. My kids can wait until it goes on super sale after the holidays

I'd pay $175 for the right to play Wind Waker HD and Skyward Sword alone.

I get it. But I won't be getting it for myself to play any games alone. It would be for games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros to play with my kids and wife.

And Wind Waker on the Gamecube is one of my most embarassing video game experiences of my life. My wife and I played it years back when it was new, and it was a challenge the whole time. We got pretty far into the game though, and just could not make it through a few stages. I even turned it from normal to easy mode and couldn't do it. Shamed as a 30 year old by a kids game. Total fail.

Maybe it wasn't a kid's game then? Just because it has a cartoony look does not make it kid-appropriate.

Sounds like you need help figuring out all those Zelda puzzles, so what's the problem? Seriously though: the Zelda games, Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros 4, the virtual console games, Mario Maker, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X, etc for $175? Do it without a second thought.

We've had this discussion before. Aprox 10% of Americans cannot get broadband, no matter how much they want it. I know, "boo hoo, too bad for you", but people are allowed to think that being shut out is a bad thing. Beyond that, and I know that I'm old for a regular gamer, but I really want a physical copy of everything. It makes me feel better, because I don't trust hard drives very much. I can live with losing game saves, but losing the game itself is too much.

You… you can just… redownload the game when you replace the hard drive. Your saves are stored in the cloud, not on the console. What am I missing here?

Lots of people think they don't really own the game if they buy it digitally. It's weird.

Thats me, yes. I also feel like I collect my games, when I can look at them all lined up on the shelf, same with my movies or my books. Otherwise its all just....data.

I used to feel that way (well I still feel a bit like I collect games/movies), but I don't display my games/movies anymore. I just take the discs out of the case and keep them in vertical sleeved organizers. It takes up so much less space.

New round of rumors. NX is to be shown off some time this week, will cost in the range of $300-$350. I can believe the price, not sure they're showing it this week though.

People speculated that it was going to be shown this week because 10/21/16 would be the 5th anniversary Nintendo Direct.

It may be mean nothing, but the NES launched in North America on October 18th which is tomorrow. At this point I just toss aside NX rumors. It's something new every week.

If they intend to stick to that March release date, they need to begin showing it off and hyping it asap. If they've delayed it to summer, the radio silence makes more sense.

A summer release for a console would be really, really atypical, wouldn't it?

Wii and Wii U were both released in November. 3DS releases have been all over the place. My question is, would Nintendo really wait until November 2017 to release the NX? I doubt it. When else CAN they release it? Summer, around E3, for maximum hype.

I'll buy the thing day one just to play the better version of Breath of the Wild.

My favorite parts of the preview:

Low-key game announcements. NBA 2K, new Mario game(!!!!!), Splatoon (2?), footage of the Switch version of Breath of the Wild, Skyrim.
Local multiplayer. Probably functions like the 3DS, sets up an ad hoc network.
Multiple controllers. Doesn't rely on touchscreen input.
