I think it is pretty likely that there isn't any serious negotiations on either player until free agency, or at least pre-season tampering season occurs. It's also possible they aren't interested in Bush being back except for quite cheap, to the point where unless he's on the market a month after free agency starts he's not on their radar.
Most likely. If we were planning on being very active in FA, I wouldn't mind letting all those test the market and just sign Starks cheaply and maybe Hartline.
Smith has the talent to be considered in bringing back. I don't know where he stands as a worker, though. As for Bush, it seems that he works hard but doesn't really have the talent for this offense IMO.
Of all the FAs I am hoping these two be brought back along with Clemons. Smith started the season good keeping top receivers like Green to under 100 yards. He has the talent
I don't think they are going to pay Jake Long 11-15 million a year. Just not gonna happen. Jake will walk, and someone will pay him. We will be a better team for it.
Long is the guy I'd most like to keep, but I think he belongs in another division. The AFCE doesn't have the kind of pass rushers that you'd need a 8 figure LT to block. He's better suited for the NFCE or NFCN.
Lol. Huh? What are division games? Seriously, our focus should be beating the teams in our division, the Pats especially. Long doesn't exactly help us there, not the way an elite WR, CB, or DE would. I'd rather spend that 10 Millie on a guy who can put Brady on his *** or make plays for Tannehill in the pass game. He'll, even an elite RB helps beat NE more so than a LT. Do we really need to pay 8 figures for a guy to block Ninkovich and Chandler Jones?
I guess maybe for me it is just an awful lot of money per season to spend on one player who never touches the ball. 10- 12 % of the cap, I don't know. I am not saying Jake Long is not a good Tackle, just can't see them $$
hartline is the first guy i'd sign. he's not a #1, but clearly Tannehill has developed something nice with him and with the condition the WR corps is in, i'd make him first priority. who'd have thought that sentence would ever have been typed.
I agree. Hartline is a solid #2. But only #2 money. Anymore and he goes. We got to be smart here with the cash.
I wouldn't worry too much about the Jets or Bills. They're doing an excellent job of self destructing on their own.
I'd be hesitant to give him number 2 money. I'd rather pay market value for a #1, draft a number 2, let Bess, Binns, Matthews fight for number 3 thru 5, with some low cost guys thrown in to compete with them. Take that number two money and throw it at one of the FA TE'S or maybe another pass rusher.
Dude, we shouldn't be focusing on beating teams in our division. We should be focused on beating teams, period. If we were ONLY playing the Jets, Patriots, and Bills during the season, then sure. But we're not. As such, to say this amount of money shouldn't be put towards position x because The Jets, Patriots, and Bills are weak at position y is not a good argument.
You have to win division games period. To succeed. Everyone knows that. It's a flawed argument otherwise.
Divison games make up almost 40% of your season. They are very important games and you need to win as many of them as possible. If moving your assets out of one postion to move to another to give you an advantage in division games then it would be irresponsible and foolish to not consider doing it. With that being said I hope that they bring Jake back with a reasonable contract. All things considered I think 5-6 million is reasonable. If he wants substantialy more then I think you have to move on from him and accept him as another failed pick for The Dolphins.
Of you have to win as much as those possible, and I'm very well aware how important they are. But lowballing the LT position because the pass rushers there are not too good is not the way to go.
If you believe we shouldn't re-sign Long because he's no longer good enough, then fine, that I can understand. I don't necessarily agree, but I don't necessarily disagree.
It's not that simple. Imo, he isn't good enough bc his body is showing serious signs of breaking down. Therefore, he's a real risky investment for the money he'll likely want.
That's the reason why I'm iffy. On one hand, yes, he has been injured the last couple of years. On the other hand though, it seems as if it's injuries that is effecting his performance. IMO, I think we should give him a contract with incentives based on him being healthy and on field performance. Edit: Of course, I know it's not that simple....
You know for a while there Sean's value must have been at least 4 clipboards. Then he slowed down and I don't know.
Jake Long is reportedly a warrior who will play through pain and when he has finished the past few seasons on IR; that's never someone you make a long-term investment towards. If you wanna pay him $8M-$10M per year, I understand... but it best be a 2-3 year contract or an option to basically cut him after his first year without any dead cap penalties. I think Brandon Marshall had an option like this after his first year where we could cut him without any penalty.
All about how much it'd cost for a deal like that. And I can't really see him taking a deal like that without testing the market first.
