Seriously, I've been amped up for this fight since Monday morning. Like when they're in the ring, and Bruce is doing the intros. Since Monday.
They've had to move a lot of the fights off this card in the weeks/months leading up. But it'll probably still break their PPV record.
Can't wait. This thing will not go 5 rounds. -
Kudos to Brock. He got dominated in the first, weathered it and then showed his game is improving. Last thing I expected.....next to a decision....was a submission. Arm triangle for Lesnar.
Carwin punched himself out in the first. And his guard was lazy in the second, probably the result of the fatigue. I felt he should have made Brock stand back up in the first, and it looked like he was going to do just that, until Brock kicked him and he seemed to instinctively jump back on top and pound away. -
And then, he comes out in Rd2, takes Carwin down... and ends it with a submission... showing his game is still improving.
Who can beat this guy? Hes the best heavyweight on the planet... -
Hmm that's what I expected. What surprises me is Lesnar took that beating. That was my only fear was going into this fight could Lesnar take those punches. Who is next?
-
Cain Velasquez gets Brock next.
-
Carwin pretty much blew his load in the first round. He stuffed Lesnar's first takedown attempt and then beat him up. Was a new visual to see Brock running away and cowering.
But again, credit Brock for surviving it, having better cardio than Carwin and finishing the fight. This is what you wanted to see from Brock.charlestonphan and TheAnswer385 like this. -
Cain is small, indeed. But he's definitely earned the shot. Junior dos Santos is another fighter in the Velasquez vein. I think the winner of he and Big Country next month might be next after that. -
Brock just called that first round 'Hurricane Katrina'.
Didn't know where he was for a second after that left hand. Thanked the referee for letting them go. But says he wasn't hurt. Just hung in there. Says he's able to relax and keep his head in those situations.
Leben said he laid in bed last night and cried, he wanted to win so badly for his coaches.
Brock says they targeted that arm triangle in training. His jiu jitsu coach suspected it would be there and said it would be feasible.SICK likes this. -
BTW - the crowd cheered Brock afterward tonight. He didn't act an *** this time. Actually said "I'm stand before you a humble champion" afterwards.

Bonner said Krystof hit him so hard at one point, his head went back, saw stars. Says he started thinking of the Rocky movie where he says "I see three of him!".
Bonner: "Shouldn't I see three of them? I can't see ****!"
He couldn't see anything for about 45 seconds, so he just put his hands up.

Leben gets his second Fight of the Night bonus in two weeks.
Awesome fight. Leben pulls off the submission with 20 seconds left.TheAnswer385 likes this. -
The Bonner-Krystof fight was fantastic as well. That probably would have been fight of the night had it gone longer (the Leben fight went a full round longer).
Typical Bonner fight. Just an absolute war. -
that whole card was fun... very entertaining fights. i missed the Sotoropoulous fight because the bar i was at was having technical difficulties. but otherwise, i was very entertained all around.
Leben showed tons of heart, and you could see the emotion he had. fight was very see-saw, back and forth. guy is an animal to take that fight two weeks after fighting at TUF finale.
in the Bonner fight, there were several times where it looked like one or the other would finish it, before Bonner finally did.
Brock and Carwin was very impressive. if Carwin gets his cardio and learns to pace himself right, he can beat Brock, i have no doubt. he showed in round 1 that his wrestling is good enough to hang, and he has better stand up.
not saying it should have been stopped, but i have seen fights stopped before when a guy is face down and takes 10 plus shots while just covering up, like Lesnar did in rd 1.
my bet is the humbler Brock was of course due in large part to his illness and recovery process, and a genuine appreciation for those coaches he mentioned. but i also bet that bringing Randy Couture into his camp played a role as well. what better guy to teach a fighter about being classy, and acting the part of champion and standard bearer for a company and sport? -
I cannot beleive I missed this card.

Does Cain Velasquez have a chance? After seeing Brock take those punches does Velasquez even have a shot? I'm guessing no but I do want to see a Carwin V Lesnar rematch.
-
I knew Bonner wasn't going down. You've seen this from him too many times. He can take a beating, and he's going to fight back. Same thing with Leben. Dangerous when hurt, although it looked like Sexyama might have been able to finish a couple of times. He showed it again.
You knew it was going to be a good card with Bonner and Leben on it. Especially when the first Bonner-Krystof fight was so good. We were pretty much guaranteed three good fights going in. Kudos to the UFC for substituting an aggressive fighter (Leben) for an aggressive fighter (Wanderlei). Those two should fight, BTW.
Also saw a really good finish (Petruzelli) on the prelims. Looked like his arm might have snapped.charlestonphan likes this. -
As it turns out, Bonnar/Krystof also got Fight of the Night bonuses with Leben/Akiyama.
