..Roberto Wallace.
From the Bess thread, which if folks want a better feel for, WQAM's Brandon Marshall Weekly appearance featured Beast and Irvin really chatting Bess up and getting really technical "he ran past the Cb and was covered, but instead of breaking the route to the outside, came back down hill and made the reception, where did he learn that!?!?!"
Anywho, if Nolans' prediction comes to pass, Beast Doubled, Woodson on Bess, that means this is the first game Hartline has to produce, or maybe Roberto Wallace has a coming out party as 1 on 1 would be a natural advantage to Wallace moreso than Hartline.

I have noe doubt in hartline coming trough. He did so in the jets game

I believe that was New England's strategy too. Hartline and Fasano baby!

Well, the interesting thing here is the rumor about the Dolphins shopping for a Wr as well, if Hartline doesn't come through then that rumor would be much more credible.
Unless of course..lil Beast steps up... -
Well, Hartline will be fine. Woodson has not been good this year, so Bess will be fine also.
-
Well, let's see what Hartline is made of...
-
I'd like to see Hartline fill in on Punts and Kickoffs, but last practice they had DBess and Carroll on kick offs...maybe they think Bess can handle both Returns and the Slot Wr role?
Wallace should see more playing time at that Sharpe Wr/Te role he just screams mismatch imo. -
Our offense has been fine, we were on our way to score plenty last week, we were up and down the field before the INT's in the first half.
I don't feel the love for Wallace like you do.Ohio Fanatic and GMJohnson like this. -
On a purely bottom line level all the Offense has working is Beast and Bess, all the Defense has is a lockdown Cb and a top notch passrusher, that is about it.
No one else is producing a darn thing, they are generally doing their jobs, but they are not producing, put it this way, aside from those 4 players, who else has produced consistently?
-
Why hasn't Fasano been more involved in the passing game? It seemed like two years ago Pennington was looking his way a lot more and finding him for big gains. Now it seems like he disappears for two weeks at a time or something.
-
Woodson is getting old in the tooth and has struggled this year, the pack ahs injuries in the secondary.
But I also don't expect us to pass like we did in the Jet game in the Pat game. I think we go back more to the power game.
Wallace has looked good on ST's, but it would not surprise me to see him gone and another WR there at anytime. -
I'd suspect Marlon Moore is in a tighter spot he had a drop and disappeared since then. -
Henning is infamous for not targeting the Te in his offense and Fasano is bearing the brunt of that quirk.
As for Hartline, I cannot get a grasp of his game 4 games into the season, I do think he disappears to often, I also think Henne is not looking for him, why that is Henne's preference or Hartline's lack of seperation, who knows. -
We are starving for a 3rd WR, a guy like Camarillo (oops) who can beat single coverage on a consistent basis, or a guy like Ginn Jr. who can blow the top off of coverages that are rolled towards Marshall. Hartline isn't getting the job done in either respect, IMO. -
-
Hartline struggled through the preseason with a little of a sophmore slump and is taking his time finding his groove. That being said, he'll only get better as the season goes.
I'd love to see Wallace get a few catches too!
All this being said I hope Ronnie carries us this week! -
I saw a thread entitled "Dolphins must establish Brandon Marshall".
Which is not very bright as Beast has a gang of receptions, but no one else is making the Defense pay for focusing on Beast, Bess is doing his job of moving the chains, the #2 Wr position has not been productive enough considering they are seeing man to man coverage constantly.
That means if anyone needs to be established, it is Hartline..or Wallace..someone needs to step up as the Offense is suffering the same thing as it did last yr, the 20 yd box around the line of scrimmage is the same as it was last yr..Defenses just treat the O like they are on the 10 yd line because no one is getting behind them. -
The blocking by our backs hasn't been awful, but it's been suspect at times. I think they're concerned with getting too much pressure on Henne and losing the sack. -
Hartline has 167 yds in receptions from 4 starts, 89 came in one game.
This is with Beast being triple teamed, to me we'd have nothing to lose by plugging Wallace in at times at the #2 Wr slot. -

Get ronnie Brown 25 touches with 10 being in the wildcat, and we will win this game..Rely on your best player against a depleted def. front 7, not hartline or fasano.
double team on marshall, woodson on bess, safety up top, means 7 in the box..Smashcat.steveincolorado likes this. -
That assumption or guess by Nolan is logical. That is the way that most teams should look to defend Miami. Miami needs Bess or one of the other WRs or TEs with single coverage to be able to beat it. I don't agree that Camarillo could consistently beat single coverage btw. Bess is good enough that he should be able to beat any CB most of the time even Woodson. Also they need to move Marshall around to get him the ball some even though he's doubled. And of course, the key is the running game. The Pack has a ton of injuries in their front 7. And they were never that great against the run to begin with. People see they haven't given up many yards and think they're decent. But I think that's more of a result of teams abandoning the run against them trying to keep up scoring wise. The teams that have run are having success. The pack has given up a very poor 4.7 YPA against the run. We really should be able to impose our will in the running game. And, I know some will hate this, we really should be able to WC them with success.

''IHere's a reality check. The Green Back Packers have three healthy defensive linemen right now. That's it. They have B.J. Raji, Cullen Jenkins and C.J. Wilson.
Wilson's a rookie and has hardly played. He's bad in run defense. I should know, I graded him closely coming out. From what little he has played this year, Pro Football Focus agrees with me that he's been bad in run defense. He's a savvy pass rusher though.
Cullen Jenkins is also more pass rusher than run defender. He's mediocre against the run.
Mike Neal hurt his shoulder against Washington and it's gotten worse as the week has wore on. He was out of practice today and it doesn't look like he'll be available Sunday. Ryan Pickett played only 2 snaps last week because of injury and he's yet to practice this week. I believe Justin Harrell and Jairus Wynn are also hurt, someone might have to check for me on that one.
And it doesn't get any better behind the Defensive Line. Clay Matthews? Probably out. Not good feelings going on there. Nick Barnett? Already know he's out. Brandon Chillar? Suffered a setback after Wednesday's practice, didn't practice Thursday, and they now think he'll be out of the game. Basically they've got a rotation of Brad Jones, Frank Zombo (who will probably rotate onto the DL), Brady Poppinga, A.J. Hawk and Desmond Bishop at linebacker, with guys like Rob Francois and Maurice Simpkins backing up.
Ouch, ouch, ouch, ****ing ouch.
And what happens when they send help up front with their strong safety? Who is the strong safety? Atari Bigby? Nope, he's hurt. Morgan Burnett? Nope, he's hurt. Derrick Martin? Nope, he's hurt. We're down to Charlie Peprah? Really?
Yeah, that's right.
So what do you do against this? Obviously the strength of the defense stands at some pass rush ability from Cullen Jenkins, maybe C.J. Wilson proves an OK pass rusher, Raji is an OK rusher, Brad Jones is a pass rusher (bad run defender), Desmond Bishop was very effective blitzing from ILB last weekend, A.J. Hawk is a coverage guy like his buddy Barbie Carpenter at this point, and then you've got Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams and Nick Collins in coverage.
What DON'T they want to do? Expose the run defending ability of their front seven, or the pass defense capability of Charlie Peprah. They're going to try and borrow from the strengths of the defense to smooth out the weaknesses.
This is why the Wildcat was invented, honestly. It was invented to change the math, expose what you don't want exposed. They create a numbers advantage by crowding the middle of the field, putting more men in the box, etc. That makes it easier for them to prevent us from KILLING them with the run, and puts the sombrero on their cover guys to prevent big pass plays. And on offense they'll try and fight us with tempo and with early scoring and big plays, to keep Miami thinking pass, pass, pass. Borrowing from the good to help the bad.
What does the Wildcat do? It nullifies the numbers advantage. Suddenly, your banged up, young, inexperienced and one-dimensional front seven is going to HAVE to hold its own in run defense WITHOUT the benefit of a numbers advantage.
You got Frank Zombo, C.J. Wilson, Brad Jones and B.J. Raji out there...young guys in their first or second seasons...how much Wildcat have they even seen in the NFC North? Ground zero for the Wildcat was in the AFC and that remains to this day the conference where it's most in use. Are guys like Zombo, Jones, Raji, Wilson, Peprah, hell even Hawk and Bishop...going to have the feel for the angles and reactions necessary to defend the 'cat? With all the triage being performed on the defense this week, have they even bothered to prep for the Wildcat? Or did they just see some newspaper clippings calling out the Wildcat and declaring it's dead, see that the only time Miami used the 'cat last week was that 3rd & 6 play which was a dismal failure, and decide **** it they're not going to use it.
So...sorry Wildcat haters...if there's any game where you want to use it, this one's it. -

"But" the #4 guy will have to play ST and it would be best if he also was a Returner as that creates value from the roster slot, it would also mean the #5 Wr would be inactive for most games.ToddsPhins likes this. -

From Mike Nolan's lips to my fantasy team's ears.
I had to make a decision on what WR to add this week due to bye week issues. Davone Bess was one of the choices, and he'd have been my natural choice if I thought Charlie Peprah would end up on him any number of times. But if Nolan thinks the Packers might actually toss Woodson onto Bess then I'll grab Derrick Mason instead, as he should draw Kyle Arrington (maybe Darius Butler?) while Anquan Boldin draws heavy combination coverage and Houshmazooney draws Devin McCourty.
