Color yourself lucky on that one... blown coverage over the middle and the QB blew it. James still should have made the catch.
Agreed. Nope, I think when he landed he landed nuts on the ball. Ouch That third down throw by Harris was so close to being a beauty. harris needed to wait another split second on that though to allow Javaris James to get another step or two downfield and into the route. It would have been a big gain. The play though was straight from the eagles playbook where Whipple was working last year. Theyve used that many times with Westbrook
Actually I think my boys have been playing pretty well, bend dont break. Its the first game I expect some blown coverages here and there, and our D is pretty young especially the secondary. Though I admit on that one play we did get lucky.
Great timing on the break up IMO. I think that's a veteran play. Knocking the ball out of the hands by going up when the target is coming down. I just don't see it a lot with college cornerbacks. Its like when a cornerback uses the wrong arm to swat down a pass and misses the ball. You see it often with younger guys.
Harris and Ponder have now both made the same mistake throwing late deep. Both QB's have been bruned. Harris' throw just now probably a bit less costly on 3rd and 11, just as good as a punt though obviously you'd rather have some points.
I think the key will be here is how Jacory bounces back. If he melts mentally, then he's not going to be a very good player for us nor will he be one in the NFL. Exactly what I was thinking. Almost like a smart interception.
They've got to make that open field tackle. That's like four open field tackles missed by the secondary this game.
wow, you know its bad coverage when the receiver is the only one in the screen when he catches the ball
Well theres no such thing as a smart interception but it had a desired effect of a pooch punt in this case. The idea to throw 25-30 yards downfield after the initial play went bust was nothing short of silly
Very true on all points. The only reason I somewhat labeled it a "smart interception" was because the field position may not have been much different had we punted.
Probably the first bad call by Whipple. We just need a couple stops from the defense, which I know seems very difficult to rely on right now.
