So we were at 4th and inches in Q2 yesterday. AND....we punted. To me this is a microcosm of what is wrong with this team. We have no killer instinct and we have no balls from a team mindset standpoint. This comes straight from the coach.
That and in addition our clock management at the end of the first half was crap too.
I wouldn't let Gase wash my car.

If it were me yesterday knowing we had a 0% chance of winning I would have went for it multiple times on 4th down and threw in some flea flickers F the patriots!!!dolphin25 likes this. -
I guess there is a tendency to try and 'keep it close' or 'respectable' as regards the final score. No real effort to actually win the game, just lessen the beating. If it was me, I'd have the defense attacking the whole game. Like body shots to a boxer, you get some shots in on Brady and he will start to miss some throws. Will you get burned for some big plays? Probably, but that just puts your offense back onto the field sooner and the Pats D gets to spend more time on the field instead of resting as the Pats offense dinks and dunks down the field for a score.
The older Brady gets, the more effective this becomes. Or just keep doing those soft zones and hope he misses some throws or they drop some passes and you can get off the field. I'd prefer to make Brady pay a physical cost.
Also, I guess we are not allowed to QB sneak? Brady still does it, with a high success rate, but we can't? Even with a bad OL, you just need to fall forward.
These are some of the things I want to see Gase correct as the season plays out.Rickysabeast, dolphin25 and bigballa2102 like this. -
If we did go for it, how much confidence do you have in our line to get a push to get that yard?
I didn't have much confidence, and neither should Gase.
The way this team executes, we most likely would have been stuffed. And if we tried to get cute and pass, i am guessing its an incompletion. -

Well the point of the SEC is that they know where the mountain top is so they need to get there, the acc keeps changing coaches very less frequent because to win the acc championship is a lot easier however when dabo keeps winning youll see Miami, fsu Louisville change coaches more often.
College game changes so much you never know the next guy could win, look at chip Kelly no one seen him and his style of play coming. the NFL is way different in that aspect. -
Gase lost his starting quarterback.

you can tell head coaches when they make moves how they are going to pan out based on their teams, whoever takes the browns job is fighting uphill based off no personnel, we have a decent team we had 10 wins last yr and not all because of RT and lost 1 player and now we win 4 games, even with RT I don't think we win more than 8 this yr if that. -

I don't get the criticism for this one. We were on what, our own 30? In a 10 or 11 point game at that point? With an OL that can't get a push on a regular run play, you want to try and go in a tight formation and try and get a push for inches? I mean, given this team, you're essentially giving up there. For this team in it's current state, I'd say we're less likely than the league average to get that conversion which has you giving a top offense in the league an extremely short field making it even easier than usual for them to score.
I get wanting to send the message, tough, hard nosed, run, aggressive, blah blah blah whatever other term you want to use, but you're still in the game at that point, and you're giving it away if you don't get it. So, IMO, all day long you trust your defense to come up with a stop on a long field, rather than short. That is their job afterall.
I get it... but I dont think it's the big deal everyone wants to make this out to be other than to just find another reason to complain.LI phinfan likes this. -

I think their are a lot of assertions about Gase and this staff that's not being backed up in any meaningful way.
On topic just because you have nothing to lose doesn't mean going for it on 4th and inches is the right call.Fin D likes this. -
Giving up the ball inside your own 35 with plenty of game left to play is acting like you dont want to win. If we were closer to midfield or something, then hell yeah, I'm with you. From where we were on the field, it's not all that smart IMO given the situation in the game.
