Zombie-like? Really? I saw one team running around confused racking up penalties. Then I saw the Dolphins with few penalties, briskly and confidently resetting after the play. The Bucs had high energy but there focus was nil.
6 penalties shows you a team confused and performing poorly and the team with 4 shows you a well prepared team? What a concise formula for analysis.
I will say, guys like Vontae should be cruising and dominating at this point in their career. Richard, on the bright side did just that. Not happy with VD and SS.
I dislike saying it, but I agree with that, SS has confidence, but is as physical as a newborn, VD instead of elevating his game to where he can be, is wilting w/o coddling. Some players double down and try harder, some go into a shell. I hope he turns it around as when VD is right, he is as good as any Cb in the AFCE and I'm including Revis.
VD reminds me a lot of Sam Madison. Gifted guys. Guys who would party until 5am the Saturday night before a game. The difference is, I think Sam was/is way more intelligent, and that difference carried him further as a pro, and further through his antics. Vontae still plays like a rookie, an athletic, physically gifted rookie. He shouldn't be making the mistakes he makes. Top flight corners go an entire season, making 2 maybe 3 mistakes.
The starters for Miami had maybe one penalty. The starters for the Bucs..... And I'm not sure what "intensity" in the first preseason game has to do with anything.
Oh no wait, you're right. You always see Revis, Bailey, and Nmandi chasing guys down after big gains they allowed. Sure, they give that up all season long. Spot on. Sent from my iPad
I do. Just rewatched the game this morning. Know how Trusnik played phenomenally and Spitler was very good? Well pre-game those were the two guys in the defensive huddle who head butted each other and were pumping each other up. They appeared to have great energy, enthusiasm and intensity for this game. I am not surprised they were two of the best performances on the field last night. (Note - The main conclusion is not that head-butting is what leads to performance, before someone sends the "So you're saying to play well every player HAS to head butt each other before every game!?" No. I'm not.)
For the first time since he became a Dolphin, I was very impressed by Spitler. I had no idea he could play that well.
At some point is about production , that point is now imo. Unfortunately the secondary seems to be a negative as opposed to a positive. Wonder if trade winds may be blowing?
Why would anyone be surprised? Only surprise is if the Dolphins aren't a bottom 5 team in the league this year.
Proof positive that there's a science to be developed in predicting performance based on psychological variables, just as the combine intends to with physical ones.
He played pretty well last preseason. Good enough to get kept over Edds. Also he covered kicks very well last season. He was either on the tackle or very close on about every kickoff return in 2011.
I believe the coaching staff said Sean had improved in the intangible areas. I assume they mean attitude, hard work, etc when compared to Davis. At least that is my memory of it.
This. Also it is hard to judge corners when your defensive line gets absolutely no rush. I refuse to evaluate the progression of players based on one preseason game. Regardless of how good or bad.
